Now working with ol4 age and mentally retarded youth. The weakness
is that its all paqiatire,< bandaids.
There is apprehA~k siocaa:hobtit ,the creation of long term dependancy relations

wi- a garden project gets going the aid will be decreased, or people
may be asked to build a school-an exchange for food aid.
My present pojec.t, involve Seeding children and the aged. 78 rand will
provide food for2;.months. .We feed 53,000 old age pensioners 1 meal
every second dayS..
There has been a change in Afrid~an:care of the aged. While in the past
they were cared for, now they have .become a liability and are not
being kept. if

Mervin King is the Operation Hunger chairman and is going to pressure the
government to provide one for one matching funds. (this request was
denied)
The dumping of the aged and the malnutrition among the children is
a problem that becomes more severe as there is-further retrenchment.
"Im always happy to relieve people of conscience money".
The Council of Swedish Industry is getting into the disinvestment debate.

There is a lack of solidarity among the blacks. There is a division
over ideology and Aetoric. There are also division,.-interms of age,
membership in trade unions, ( ii the trade unions there is the question
of worker rights xxa vs. political rights of workers.)

The ANC has been and is active. If there are common lines they are ANC
lines. The UDF has a diverse base, as does Azapo. Peter Story called
in October for a quid pro quo talks with ANC in exchange for laying down
arms.
The Trade Unions have played a critical role in the stay-aways.
Strikes have bpen breaking out at the rate of 2 per day.
In Soweto 2-3 years of education& progress has been lost. The shock waves
of 76 led to a slight improvement of conditions.
There is a lot of black cygnieism over the leadership, over disinvestment.
Disinvestment would be useful because it would cut off new technology and
new idear.
