Chanderdeo Sewpersadh (George)s

President of N.I.C.
48 years old and a bachelor
He joined Congress in December 1956
He was detained in 1965 and again in 1980 for a total of 51 days
He was banned for some 9 years
on 21-8-84 he was detained in terms of Section 28 of the Internal
Security Act
He was one of the six men who sought refuge in the British Consulate
He has never been found guilty of any offence.
He is a practicing attorney


Archie Gumedet

He is 71 years old
He is married and has 7 children and 2 grandchildren
He joined the A.N.C. in 1944, at a time when the organization was not
banned
He was charged for treason in 1956 but after a trial which lasted some
5 years he was acquitted
He was again detained in 1960 for 5 months
And again in 1963 for 120 days
He was detained on 21-8-84
He was one of the six in the British consulate
He is one of the three Presidents of U.D.F.
He is President of the Release Mandela Committee
He is a revered elder in his church and in the community
He is a practicing attorney

M. J. D(aidoo:

He is 56 years old
He is married and has 4 children and 2 grandchildren
He joined Congress in 1945
He was detained in 1980 for 53 days
He has been banned and house arrested for 5 years
He was detained on 21-8-84
He is one of the six men who sought refuge in the British Consulate
He was a past-president of N.E.C.
Presently serving on the N.E.C. executive
He was President of the Anti-South African Indian Council Committee
and lead a successful boycott campaign against the elections in 1980
He is a practicing lawyer and President of the Democratic Lawyers Assn.







Mewalal Ramgobikt

He is 52 years old with a wife and 5 children
He joined Congress in 1958
He was President of S.R.C. at the University of Natal Non-European
section
He was banned in 1965 for 5 years
In 1970 he fared : the committee for clemency for political prisoners
and launched a campaign against the republic day celebrations on
the 10th anniversary of the R.S.A.
He revived the N.I.C. and was the chairman of the Steering Committee
He was banned and house arrested in 1971 for a continuous period of
12- years
He is the organizing secretary of Phoenix Settmement, founded by
Mahatma Gandhi
He has been co-opted on the executive committee of N.I.C.
He is one of two National Treasurers of the U.D.F.
He is a member of the release Mandela Committee
He was detained on 21-8-84
He is one of the six men who sought refuge in the British consulate
He is an insurance broker in practice
He has a B.A. (HOW) degree in Political Science


Paul David:

He is 44 years old
He has a wife and 3 children
He joined N.I.C. in 1959
He was detained in 1980 for 49 days
He is Secretary of the Release Mandela Committee
He is an executive member of N.I.C.
He is an executive member of the U.D.F.
A notice for his detention under Section 28 was issued but not served
as the police could not find him
On he appeared in the British consulate with his 5 other
colleagues
He was taken into custody on and charged with treason


Lassop Jassatt

He is 52 years old
He has a wife and 3 children
He was banned for 10 continuous years from 1964-1974
During this period he was charged for not signing at the S.A.P.
and imprisoned for 2 weeks
Before being banned he was detained for 2 years in 1964
On 21-8-84 he was again detained
He is President of T.I.C, Patron of U.D.F., Chairman of J.I.S. W.A.
He is on the board of management of the National Council ifor Child
and Family Welfare
He is a member of the Gandhi Centenary Committee
He is an executive member of the Southern Transvaal region of the
college of medicine
He is an executive member of the Academy of Family Practice
He was a President of T.I.C. youth as well
He was arrested on 21-8-84

Curtis Nkondos

He is 54 years old
He has a wife and 4 children
In 1977 he was detained for 13 months
He was released in 1978 and after 2 days he was detained and kept
in solitary confinement for 1 month
Again in 1980 he was detained for 1 month, and on his release he
was banned. His orders became invalidated on 1-7-84
He is Chairman of the Release Mandela Committee in Tvl.
He is also Chairman of the Teachers Action Committee
He was detained on 21-8-84
He was a school teacher who resigned in protest against Bantu
Education in 1977
He was never charged


Aubrey Mokoana:

1956 Was detained, charged for treason, acquitted
1960 Detained for 3 months
1961 Detained for 10 days
1963 Detained for 8 months
1964 Was detained, charged for terrorism, convicted and sentenced
for 20 years. Released on 27-2-84
