RE: Project Number DOS-8449-A
Correct Life Safety Violations and Renovate East Wing, Government
House, St. Augustine, Florida
This letter summarizes decisions reached during our meetings on July 21,
1988, and August 17, 1988.
On July 21 you, I, and Mr. Hector Miron reviewed the scope of work and
procedures required to complete this project. Through my contract with
DGS I will provide construction administration for the project. You will
be the on-site project manager for the Board under Mr. Miron, Acting
Director, and you will be responsible for selecting, directing and
working with the General Contractor and Subcontractors as well as for
the daily management of the project. Len Weeks, General Contractor, 62
Hypolita Street, St. Augustine, submitted a proposal for serving as
General Contractor dated July 20, 1988. Ernest E. Lee, General Contrac-
tor, 228 Charlotte Street, St. Augustine, submitted a proposal for
serving as General Contractor dated July 12, 1988. We agreed that it was
in the best interests of the State and the Board to accept the proposal
submitted by Mr. Weeks, based upon his fee proposal, experience, and
staff. I understand that you will complete a contract with Mr. Weeks in
the near future.
On August 17 you, I, and Mr. Miron reviewed the project with a represen-
tative of Flagler College. It was agreed that construction work of the
lobby/auditorium fire-rated partition would prevent the use of the
auditorium by Flagler College during the fall semester. In order to
allow Flagler College use of the space throughout the semester the
following approximate construction schedule was established:
HERSCHEL E. SHEPARD FAIA
2111 CORPORATE SQUARE BOULEVARD (904) 721-2111 JACKSONVILLE, FLORIDA 32216
Solicit major bids by mid-September.
Receive major bids by mid-October.
Award subcontracts and begin East Wing construction by 15 November.
Begin lobby/auditorium fire-rated partition construction on 15
Complete lobby/auditorium partition construction on 15 February.
Complete East Wing on 15 March.
Please let me know when you wish for me to attend the first conference
with the General Contractor and subs. Please call if you have any ques-
tions or need additional information.
