Dear Blair:

Bill Adams has asked that I write you regarding our plans for
the ground floor of the east wing of Government House, with the
thought that you might want to use it as a student project.

As you perhaps know, the building was constructed in 1936 and
was acquired from the Federal Government in 1966 while the agency
was under the direction of Earle Newton. Plans at that time called
for the reconstruction of the Spanish Governor's House, foundations
of which underlie the present east wing. In order to verify the
location of various walls, etc., the interior of this space was
removed. A series of events which took place about this time caused
work on the project to cease. The area has been utilized for stor-
age since that time.

Since it is no longer economically feasible nor do I think
advisable to pursue the reconstruction, we propose to renovate the
space for use as an architectural/archaeological exhibit area. The
exhibits would be designed so that the area could also be used for
receptions and similar functions.

As you can see from the enclosed photographs, there are vir-
tually no design limitations imposed by partitions, finishes, etc.
The building has sufficient capacity in its electrical distribution
system to carry any normal loads including an independent climate
control system. We would, of course, want to provide access for
the handicapped. This should not prove difficult, however, since

the floor is almost ongrade at the present time. A half bath and
storage area would also be helpful, as well as the preservation
of the walk-in vault under the stair.

Please advise if you require any additional information concern-
ing this proposal.

Sincerely,
