GENERAL
This instruction covers the installation of modular coils on
N2AHD air handlers. These coils have quick-connect fittings
and are designed to be matched with both cooling only and
heat pump outdoor units. All coils are shipped with a re-
frigerant holding charge.
This instruction covers installation of the following combina-
tions for upflow, counterflow or horizontal applications.

Installer should pay particular attention to the words:
NOTE, CAUTION and WARNING. NOTES are intended to
clarify or make the installation easier. CAUTIONS are given
to prevent equipment damage. WARNINGS are given to
alert the installer that personal injury and/or equipment
damage may result if installation procedures are not
handled properly.


INSPECTION
As soon as a coil is received, it should be inspected for pos-
sible damage during transit. If damage is evident, the extent
of the damage should be noted on the carrier's freight bill.
A separate request for inspection by the carrier's agent
should be made in writing. See Form 50.15-NM for more in-
formation.

CLEARANCE
Clearance must be provided for:
1. Refrigerant piping and connections.
2. Maintenance and servicing access.
3. Condensate drain line.


COIL I AIR HANDLER ASSEMBLY-UPFLOW
APPLICATION
1. Remove coil front access panel and cover plate.
2. Remove air handler access panel.
3. Place air handler on top of coil casing inserting the
duct flanges into the return air end of air handler as
shown in Fig. 31
4. Bend tabs in the duct flange down over air handler
unit bottom flanges. For a more secure assembly,
align the six-hole support plates with holes provided
in the coil casing and air handler side panels as
shown in Fig. 4. Attach plates with extra screws pro-
vided in the parts bag.
5. Remove knockout from "V" coil access panel to al-
low for neoprene condensate elbow.

5. See Fig. 4 and replace mounting bracket(s) per coun-
terflow illustration.
6. Rotate casing and insert the duct flanges into the
return air end of air handler. See Fig. 5.
7. Bend tabs over on duct flanges. For a more secure
assembly, align six-hole support plates with holes
provided in the coil casing and air handler side pa-
nels as shown in Fig. 3. Attach plates with the extra
screws provided in the parts bag.
8. Install filter rack accessory or the (4) screw-on duct
flanges under the coil casing's 9/16 inch flanges and
fasten as shown in Fig. 5.
NOTE: If Filter Rack Accessory is to be used, screw-
on flanges are not required and may be discarded.
9. Remove knockout from "V" coil access panel to al-
low for neoprene condensate elbow.
10. When duct work to air handler/casing assembly is
completed, replkice coil.
CAUTION: Do not rotate coil. Coil must be installed
with condensate connection down.
NOTE: Slant coil must be secured to side of casing.

ORIFICE SELECTION
Each coil will have an orifice installed in the fitting between
the liquid line connection and the distributor (see Fig. 6).

The orifice is identified on a label next to the liquid connec-
tion (see Fig. 7).

The orifice that is shipped with the coil is based on the
"most sold" combination, but it may have to be changed,
depending on the capacity and efficiency of the outdoor unit
that it is matched with (see Table 1).

Table 1 indicates the standard orifice installed with each
coil. Refer to the outdoor unit instruction to determine the
proper orifice required for your particular system match.
If the orifice size matches, nothing further is required and
the refrigerant lines may be connected per the outdoor unit
instruction. If the outdoor unit instruction indicates that an-
other orifice must be used, the correct orifice will be provid-
ed in the literature packet with the outdoor unit. To change
the orifice in the coil, use the following procedure:
ORIFICE INSTALLATION
WARNING: Coil is under 15 psig pressure.
1. The first step is to remove the liquid line fitting.
CAUTION: This fitting is a left-hand thread; turn clockwise
to remove. Crack open this connection to relieve the
pressure.
2. Remove the liquid line fitting using a 3/4" wrench and
remove the orifice installed with a small diameter wire
or paper clip (see Fig. 6).
3. Remove the orifice from the packet that came with the
outdoor unit and verify that it is the correct number
specified in the outdoor unit instructions. Install this or-
ifice with the rounded end toward the coil and the flat
end outward (see Fig. 6).
4. Thread the liquid line fitting back in place on the coil.
Remember it contains left-hand threads. Tighten the
fitting hand tight, and then turn an additional 1/8 turn.
CAUTION: Use a 3/4" wrench to turn fittings. Using pliers
may cause internal damage to the fitting.
NOTE: This procedure should be done within two minutes
to keep air and contaminates from entering the coil. If
the orifice cannot be replaced and the coil resealed
within two minutes, it should be temporarily closed to
the air, using masking tape (short term delay) or plug-
ging/capping (long term delay). There is no need to
purge the coil if this procedure is done within the time
limit.
5. Install the adhesive-backed label identifying the newly
installed orifice over the existing label.


REFRIGERANT LINE CONNECTIONS
See the outdoor unit installation instructions for the
procedure to install the pre-charged tubing.
Care should be taken to bring refrigerant lines into the in-
door portion of the system in a manner that will not obstruct
access to the air handler, filters or coil.
NOTE: With coils installed, place the front cover plate over
the lines before connecting refrigerant lines to the
coils. Once the lines are connected, fasten the front
access panel to the casing and the front cover plate to
the front access panel.
Refrigerant lines should be sound isolated by using the ap-
propriate hangers or strapping.
CONDENSATE DRAIN CONNECTION
Upflow/counterflow slant coil condensate connections are
3/4" internal pipe thread. See Detail "A" for proper drain
connection.

Upflow/counterflow "V" coils are supplied with a neoprene
condensate elbow and two spring retaining clamps. Install
the elbow over the drain pan copper stub (see Detail "B").
NOTE: Elbow fits over a standard 3/4" copper, CPVC, or
PVC water pipe.

Horizontal slant and V" coil drain pans provide a 3/4" inter-
nal pipe thread connection for both primary and secondary
drains (see Detail "C').

Pipe the secondary drain independently so that condensate
will be visible, providing a warning that the primary drain is
clogged.


Panel knockouts must be removed before drain connections
can be made. Drain connections on some vertical applica-
tions must be offset to provide proper filter access.
All drains must be trapped a minimum of two inches and
lines should be pitched to insure flow away from unit drain
pan. Drain lines must be located so they will not be exposed
to freezing temperatures and should be the full size of the
drain connections.
NOTE: When the unit is installed in an attic or above a fi-
nished ceiling, an auxiliary drain pan should be provided
under the unit as is specified by most local building codes.

COIL AIR FLOW ADJUSTMENT
See the air handler installation instruction-Form 550.15-N2
for blower speed adjustment details.

COIL CLEANING
When the coil needs to be cleaned, it should be washed
with Calgon Coilclean (mix one part Coilclean to seven parts
water). Allow solution to remain on the coil for 30 minutes
before rinsing with clean water. The solution should not be
permitted to come into contact with painted surfaces.

GENERAL

The above Transformer-Relay accessories consist of the
components indicated above. They provide the controls
necessary to operate N2AH and NAMB Air Handler units.
Each of the accessory models indicated has a particular
usage.

NOTE: Be sure the type of application and voltage, match
the components you have just unpacked.

INSTALLATION

If necessary bend/break blower duct wrapper cover to fit
fan unit. See Fig. 1. Cover plate is premarked.

Mount blower duct wrapper cover to air handler unit using
four sheet metal screws provided.

Remove Transformer-Relay plate from duct wrapper cover.
Wire Transformer-Relay power supply per wiring diagram
on the accessory. Wiring also shown on diagram in this
instruction, See Fig. 2.

Reinstall Transformer-Relay plate to duct wrapper cover.

Mount control box to blower duct wrapper cover with
four'sheet metal screws provided.

1. If operating voltage is less than 218 volts, interchange red
transformer tap with the Yel./Blu. striped tap.
2. Max. overcurrent device, 15 amps. fused disconnect switch
.shown with max. dual element fuse size of 15 amps., 14
AWG Min. wire size. All field wiring to be in accordance
with National Electric Code (N.E.C.) Canadian Electric
Code (C.E.C.) and/or Local or City Codes.
3. Blower Motor is thermally protected.
4. External VA not to exceed 36.
5. If any original wire must be replaced, it must be replaced
with type AWM (1050) wire or equivalent.
16. Slower multi-speed power leads are field connected as
t1llows: Black lead (High Speed), Blue lead (Med. Speed)
and Red lead (Low Speed). See installation instructions

1. All field wiring to be in accordance with National Electric
Code (N.E.C.), Canadian Electric Code (C.E.C.), and/or
local codes. Provide fused disconnects for all power supplies.
2. If any original wire must be replaced, it must be replaced
with type AWM (1050) wire, or equivalent.
3. Motors are thermally protected.
4. Field connect motor to desired speed. Refer to application
data for blower performance. Tape all wires that are not
used. For high speed connect wire 35 to BIk. lead; for med-
ium speed connect wire 35 to Blu. lead, connect BIk. lead
to BIk./White lead; for low speed connect wire 35 to Red
lead, connect BIk. lead to BIk./White lead, connect Blu.
lead to Blu./White lead.

Borg-Warner Central Environmental Systems Inc. (BWCES) warrants this product to be free from defects in factory workmanship and
S material under normal use and service and will repair or replace, at its option, any parts that prove to have such defects, within a period
of one (1) year from the date of product installation. This warranty covers only the equipment described by Product Model Number
and Serial Number listed on the Warranty Registration Card.

For your benefit and protection, return the Warranty Registration Card to BWCES promptly after installation. This will begin the
warranty period, and allow us to contact you, should it become necessary.
In the absence of a recorded Warranty Registration Card, the warranty period will begin upon product shipment from BWCES.

S This warranty extends to the original consumer purchaser and subsequent purchaser, provided that the product has been installed
according to BWCES recommendations and specifications, and that the product has not been removed from its place of original install-
ation. Repair or replacement of parts shall not extend the warranty period.

This warranty applies to products installed in the United States or Canada.
EXCLUSIONS
1. BWCES will not pay shipping, labor, or material charges incurred to remove or replace parts under this warranty.
2. Damage occurring during transportation, installation, or servicing.
3. Damage caused by accident, abuse, fire, flood, alteration of unit, or Acts of God. (Tampering, altering, defacing, or removing unit
serial number will serve to void this warranty.)
i 4. Damage caused by use of unit in a corrosive atmosphere.
5. Failure of unit to operate due to voltage conditions, blown fuses, or other damage due to inadequacy or interruption of electrical
service or fuel supply.
S 6. Cleaning or replacement of filters.
7. Failure to have unit completely accessible for servicing.
_____ 8. Damage resulting from failure to properly and regularly clean air and/or water side of the condenser and evaporator.
____ 9. Damage resulting from freezing of condenser water or condensate; inadequate or interrupted water supply; use of corrosive water; -
rearrangement of unit plumbing system; fouling or restriction of the water circuit by foreign material.
10. Parts installation that prevents unit from operating with adequate supply of air or water.
11. Damage resulting from application or installation of components or accessories not approved by BWCES. (Vent Dampers, etc.)

THIS WARRANTY IS IN LIEU OF ALL OTHER WARRANTIES. EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED. RELATIVE TO THIS PRODUCT. INCLUDING
IMPLIED WARRANTIES OF MERCHANTABILITY AND FITNESS FOR A PARTICULAR PURPOSE.

Service requests sent to BWCES without prior dealer contact will be referred back to a dealer through the BWCES Distribution Center.
