"VOLUNTEERS IN ACTION"

On October 9th a Quilt Exhibit called "Volunteers in Action"
will open in the lobby of Government House on the Plaza. The
four quilts on display were made by the Spanish Quarter ladies
quilting group who meet each Thursday morning in the de Mesa-
Sanchez House. The quilting demonstration is a part of the
interpretation of that house. Each quilt has been given a name
by the quilters. They are, "Birds in Air", "Grandmother's Flower
Garden", "Remember Me", and "Quincentenary". A total of 10,150
hours went into their production.
The intent of the exhibit is to show the artform of quilting
as well as bring to the forefront the volunteering opportunities
which exist in the Preservation Board. The ladies with nimble
fingers and much talent are, Marguerite Levin; Madeline McNamara,
Winifred Francis, June Mohla, Dorothy Snyder and Joan Walker.
Beginning on Thursday, October 15th through the 29th, from
9:30 a.m. until noon, a quilting demonstration will take place in
Government House. The public is invited to see this handiwork
and to observe quilters as they begin another piece of art.
Government House is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m.
to 4 p.m.
