Request Benefits for Future Terms
A new UF VA certification form is available this week. Everyone, with the exception of Post 9/11 recipients can
submit their certifications for the calendar year.
Post 9/11 recipients will need to submit a request for each summer term you plan to attend. For example: If you
plan to take classes Summer A, and C, 2 separate forms will need to be submitted.
Please come by the VA office to submit your certification request for benefits as soon as you register for classes to
Veterans Job Fair
FloridaWorks will be hosting a Veterans-only job fair on Tuesday April 13th at Santa Fe College in Room R-01 from
11am to 2pm.To be admitted to the fair, you will be required to present any one of the following documents, a
DD214, a VA Medical Card or a Military ID. You also MUST be registered in the Employ Florida System
(www.employflorida.com), with your resume uploaded in Employ Florida.
Many employers will be present with jobs available. Please dress for immediate interviews and expect to meet
Border Patrol, City College, Military Sealift Command, Naylor, USAA, Wackenhunt, Tallahassee PD, USDA, Omega
Protein, Frito Lay, and the Census Bureau to name a few. Please contact Mr. James Mash

Starting on Thursday March 18, a representative of FloridaWorks will be meeting with student veterans to provide
counseling on other benefits, available specifically to them, through the state of Florida. These benefits include:
access to food stamps, subsidized housing, career counseling, unemployment assistance, etc. The representative
will be available in the UF Veteran Affairs office every Thursday from 2-5pm. No appointment is necessary and all
student veterans (including those not currently using GI Bill benefits) are encouraged to make use of this resource.
VA Launches New Website for Military and Veteran Communities
The Departments of Defense, Labor and Veterans Affairs recently launched a new and improved National Resource
Directory. The directory is designed to serve a broad base of users including wounded warriors, service members,

Veterans, their families and caregivers by providing a useful tool for supporting service providers, such as Recovery
Care Coordinators, Federal Recovery Coordinators, health care providers and case managers at Veterans Service

Recovery of Emergency Advance Payments
All advance pay recipients should have received a letter from VA's Debt Management Center notifying them that
the VA soon would start reclaiming the emergency funds they were issued for fall 2009. The letter explains the
repayment options open to the veteran. For a list of questions and answers regarding repayment of the emergency

In accordance with President Obama's Open Government Initiative, the VA is making plans so it can become
increasingly transparent, increase participation and be more collaborative. Visit the link below to learn more, and

The Career Resource Center (CRC) on campus offers resume writing assistance to all students. CRC has agreed to
offer a class tailored specifically for veterans. If you are interested in enrolling in one of the Veteran-only classes
please contact the UF VA office and ask for Jason Cohenpeer. If he is not available, you can leave your contact
information plus a date and time that works best for you simply speak with any of our staff.
