SUBJECT: STREET WIDTHS ON CHARLOTTE STREET BETWEEN TREASURY AND
From examination of historic foundations, (Rocque 110, 111, and 113)
it appears that some time after 1788 the curb line of Charlotte Street
between Treasury and Hypolita was straightened.
The present street is 15.58' wide at the north end with a 5.16' walk
to the east and a 5.83' walk to the west; midway in the block opposite
58 Charlotte (Rooque 113) the present street is 15.66' wide with a
3.66' walk to the east and a 5.0' walk to the west; at the south end
the present street is 15.66' with a 4.0' walk to the east and a 10.66'
walk to the west.
On the Rocque map of 1788 the street width at the north end is 21.76'
as compared to a present width of 15,88, a difference of 5.18'.
However, with the present walks added the present width is 26.58', a
difference of 4.82' when comDared with Rocque's width. In the center
of the block the Bocque width is 23.04', present width 15.66' a dif-
ference of 7.38'. With the addition of the present walks the present
width increases to 24.33' a difference of 1.29' when compared with

width 15.66' a difference of 9.40'. Again, with the addition of the
present walks the width increases to 30.33', a difference of 5.37'.
