The only reported incident this week is one that took place a week ago in Bullet Tree Falls Village in which a Belizean businesswoman reported being held captive in her house, for almost 40 hours, by her commonlaw-husband whom she has known for less than four months. Adela Martinez 46, reported that when she refused his sexual advances an argument began, at round 5:00 pm on Sunday, October 14, between herself and Darrington “JR” Williams whom she has known since early July after first meeting him at the restaurant she owns in the village. Martinez told the police that the disagreement took place inside her cement bungalow house resulting in the accused allegedly locking her inside the house, taking away her cellular telephone and ordering her to sit on a sofa in the living room. Martinez further alleges that the accused guarded her, first with a short machete and later with a longer one, for almost forty hours when, at around 8:00 am on Tuesday, October 16, he escorted her to the restaurant with instructions to get money for him. She alleges that about seven hours earlier, at around 1:00 am that Tuesday morning, he punched her to the left side of the face injuring her jaw and threatened to chop her with the machete. Martinez informed that as Williams stood guard at a nearby shop, while she entered the restaurant, she seized the opportunity and escaped. The complainant told the police that she stayed away from home for two days and that she returned on Thursday, October 18, 2012, only to find that her house was broken into with the following items allegedly stolen: two Hamilton Beach brand cake mixers, a Black & Decker brand coffee maker, a Hamilton Please Turn To Page 19BWS Team Visits Work Site In Belize CityBELIZE CITY, Wednesday, October 24, 2012: As the tremendous amount of civil works continues in Belize City, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Belize Water Services Limited (BWSL), Alberto August accompanied by the company’s Chief Executive Officer, Alvan Haynes and members of the Technical Services Department, today visited the BWS Please Turn To Page 19Chairman Alberto August (3rd From Left) And The BWS Team Inspecting Works On Freetown Road work site on Freetown Road where the Chairman was afforded the opportunity to personally appreciate the magnitude of works currently underway. This is especially important, since others will be looking for your thoughts and opinions on a certain matter. People will know that they can get a straight and honest answer from you, so don't disappoint them. Think through each situation clearly before you offer your advice. You will find that it's worth the effort. Lucky numbers: 06, 24, 68. TAURUS: April 21 to May 21 By being around negative and flap people, you might inadvertently pick up these habits. Be careful about your associates, because you will find that others judge you according to the company you keep, especially if you start talking like them. Make sure to maintain a respectful attitude and proper manners no matter who your company is. Lucky numbers: 40, 43, 91. GEMINI: May 22 to June 21 You may feel like the world is caving in on you in many ways this week. It could be that you have recently dug your own little cave to crawl into and be safe from the outside world. Realize that the deeper you dig in unstable terrain, the more unsteady the walls. If you aren't careful, it's likely to come crashing down on top of you. Lucky numbers: 18, 45, 90. CANCER: June 22 to July 23 Remember that you can only remain in charge as long as the others around you support your personality and leadership abilities. Avoid mutiny by taking care of the people in your world instead of simply trying to run their lives. The family was gathered around a coffin thought to contain 41-year-old car washer Gilberto Araujo when he appeared, causing some people to faint and others to flee in fear. The dead man, said to closely resemble Gilberto, is believed to be another car washer who was murdered at the weekend. Gilberto’s brother said he had wrongly identified him in the mortuary. Jose Marcos Araujo said he had not seen his brother in four months. He had heard news that a car washer had been killed, and when he saw a body in the mortuary which looked very much like his brother, he assumed it was Gilberto. ‘Overjoyed’ The family took the body to his mother’s home in the town of Alagoinhas. Gilberto Araujo said he heard about the mistake when an acquaintance approached him in the street to say his family was about to set off for his funeral. “A friend told me there was a coffin and that I was inside it,” he said. “So I said: ‘But I’m alive, pinch me!’” Mr Araujo said he tried to call another friend who was at the wake but the friend thought it was a hoax and hung up, so he decided to go in person. His mother told reporters she was overjoyed when her son showed up alive. “ What mother wouldn’t be, after being told that her son is dead and then sees him alive?” she told reporters. Police inspector Roberto Lima said the confusion surrounding Mr Araujo’s presumed death was “understandable”. “The two men closely resembled each other and both worked as car washers,” he said. Police say the dead man has now been identified as Genivaldo Santos Gama but they are now seeking further information. One day the dog died. Mr. Espat went to the parish priest and asked, "Father, me dog is dead. Could you say a mass for the poor creature?" Father Patrick replied, "I'm afraid not; we do not have services for animals in this church. But there are some Baptists down there on Gabourel Lane. There is no telling what they would do. Maybe they'll do something for the creature." "I'll check with them right away Father” responded Mr Espat. “Since you are in the business of saying mass’” continued Mr. Esapt “do you think $10,000 is enough to donate to them for the service?" Father Patrick exclaimed, "Sweet Mary, Holy Mother of Jesus! LIQUOR LICENSE NOTICES Dear Editor: In reply to the article "People on the Move for Justice" by Rolando Cocom he cautions against fundamentalism. He states that there is a danger in allowing Christian fundamentalists to be given too much voice in this movement for justice. According to the English Dictionary Webster's New Universal Unabridged Dictionary 1983-"fundamental" is defined as a leading or primary principle, rule, law, or article which serves as the groundwork or basis. Example: the "fundamentals" of the Christian faith. The problem is that much of Christianity today has been polluted by things---doctrines, philosophies, satanic infiltration. This has allowed the world to come into the so-called "church" so that the "church" is not what it originally meant. The meaning of church from the Greek word "ekklesia" means "a calling out." A calling out of what? -The world and its beliefs and ways. II Corinthians 4:3-4 states; But if our gospel be hid, it is hid to them that are lost: In whom the god of this world hath blinded the minds of them which believe not, lest the light of the glorious gospel of Christ, who is the image of God, should shine unto them. II Timothy 4:2-4 states: Preach the WORD; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all longsuffering and doctrine. For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears; And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables. He also states that fundamentalists generally believe that behind the criminal is the devil or some evil spirit. Yes the spirit world is very real, and if Almighty YAH opens people's eyes to see in the spirit, most people would be shocked. And, whatever a person listens to with the intent to know, watches with the intent to know, or engages in ---opens the door for evil spirits to come into the person. It is true because God's WORD is true. Why do you think most people do not do hideous crimes? I have studied about deliverance from evil spirits -and most churches do not even believe in casting out evil spirits. But, God's WORD states that this is one of the signs that would follow them that believe --in Mark 16:17-18. Located at a temple site in Retalhuleu province, the grave is thought to be that of an ancient ruler or religious leader who lived some 2,000 years ago. Carbon-dating indicated the tomb had been built between 700 and 400 BC, said government archaeologist Miguel Orrego A rich array of jade jewels, including a necklace depicting a vulture-headed human figure, were found. The scientists found no bones at the tomb in the Tak’alik Ab’aj site some 180km (110 miles) south of Guatemala City probably because they had disintegrated. But the vulture-headed figure appears to identify the tomb’s occupant as an a jaw or ruler because the symbol represented power and economic status and was given to respected elder men. Big chief The scientists named the grave’s occupant K’utz Chman which in the Mayan language, Mam, means Grandfather Vulture. “He was a big chief” said Mr Orrego. “He bridged the gap between the Olmec and Mayan cultures in central America.” The leader may have been the first to introduce elements which later became characteristic of the Mayan culture, such as the building of pyramids and the carving of sculptures depicting the royal families, Reuters news agency cited historians as saying. The Olmec empire began to fade at around 400 BC, while the Maya civilization was starting to grow and develop, said Christa Schieber another archaeologist working at the site. The Mayas went on to rule much of Central America from 250 to 800 AD; their empire extended from modern-day Honduras to central Mexico. Mexico Exhumes Relative of Drug Lord For DNA Test Mexican authorities exhumed a relative of drug kingpin Heriberto Lazcano on Monday and took DNA samples from the corpse to remove any doubt they had killed the Zetas leader. Lazcano, one of Mexico's most wanted men, is believed to have been killed at a baseball field in the northern state of Coahuila on October 7, but the cartel leader's body was stolen from a funeral home by gunmen hours later. Mexican officials had identified Lazcano with pictures and fingerprints taken at the funeral home, but authorities announced last week that they had decided to exhume one of his parents' bodies to put to rest any doubts. Forensic experts exhumed a body on Monday in San Francisco cemetery, south of the city of Pachuca in the central state of Hidalgo, as police kept curious onlookers at bay. A source in the federal prosecutor's office declined to say which relative had been exhumed. "While the fingerprints and photos did not leave room for any doubts, the (identification) process is also being carried out with a DNA lab study," the source said on condition of anonymity. Founded by military deserters, the Zetas are one of the most powerful gangs in a drug war that has claimed an estimated 60,000 lives in the past six years. Lazcano was accused of masterminding the arson attack on a casino last year in the northeastern city of Monterrey that left 52 people dead. He was also blamed for the killing for 72 migrants found with their hands tied in the northeastern state of Tamaulipas, which borders the United States, in August 2010. One of two main leaders of the Zetas cartel, Lazcano had a $2.6 million reward on his head. The United States had set its own award at $5 million. The Zetas are engaged in a brutal turf war with the Pacific region's Sinaloa Cartel, led by fugitive billionaire Joaquin "El Chapo" (Shorty) Guzman Mexico's public enemy number one and a billionaire criminal who escaped from a maximum-security prison in 2001. The new top Zeta, Miguel Angel Trevino will have to consolidate his leadership position while at the same time facing a furious offensive from their western rivals. Trevino, 40, an ex-police officer also known as "Z-40" or "El 40," had been effectively running the Zetas for months, according to experts. Guzman launched an offensive against the Zetas earlier this year focused on Nuevo Laredo, a northern border town that is the transit point for 40 per cent of all Mexico's overland exports into the United States. The Zetas were founded by Mexican special forces soldiers who deserted and went to work for the Gulf Cartel as enforcers. They eventually broke with their employers and struck out on their own, adding protection rackets, human trafficking, prostitution and kidnapping to their core drug smuggling business. The Gulf Cartel has now joined forces with the Sinaloa Cartel, its former foe. The Zetas are known for decapitating and dismembering their enemies, a shock tactic soon adopted by their rivals.

The United States president might be locked in a neck and neck battle at home with his challenger Mitt Romney, but across the world, including in India, people still overwhelmingly want to see Barack Obama re-elected. According to an international survey by BBC World Service, Obama is preferred to Romney in 20 of the 21 countries with Pakistan the only country where more people favoured the Republican for an election. The poll comes just two weeks ahead of the US presidential election and while Americans appear to be sharply divided in their choice, the people across the world give a thumping endorsement to the incumbent. Overall, an average of 50 per cent would prefer to see Obama elected, compared to only 9 per cent who prefer Romney. The rest said they had no preference between the two. A total of 21,797 people were polled for the survey conducted by GlobeScan/PIPA between July 3 and September 3. France, where 72 per cent of those surveyed favoured the president against 2 per cent for Romney, emerged as the most World Wants Obama Re-Elected AGAIN: BBC Survey World Wants Obama Re-Elected AGAIN: BBC Survey World Wants Obama Re-Elected AGAIN: BBC Survey World Wants Obama Re-Elected AGAIN: BBC Survey World Wants Obama Re-Elected AGAIN: BBC Survey pro-Obama nation. On the other hand, Pakistan where 14 per cent wanted to see Romney elected compared to 11 per cent for Obama was the only country polled that preferred the Republican. The poll indicates that Obama's foreign policy is seen favourably by most countries of the world over that of the previous Republican dispensations. In case of Pakistan, Obama's tenure has coincided with one of the worst phases seen by US-Pak ties United States President Barack Obama waves to supporters during a campaign rally in Denver, Colorado and the poll clearly reflects the situation. Issues such as US drone strikes on Pakistani territory, a North Atlantic Treaty Organisation raid that killed 24 Pakistani soldiers last year as well as the Abbottabad raid that killed Osama bin Laden have seen the ties between the two countries plunge to an all time low.
