When you wrap your gift, you don't have to use the same old gift-
wrap or paper bag. Reuse everyday items as creative, green ways
to present your present. Some gift-wrap ideas are: Old newspaper,
the comics section, driving maps, sheet music, towels, shirts, pil-
lowcases, etc. For decoration, you can use things like pine cones,
reusable silk flowers, aluminum foil, doilies, etc.

GIFT-GIVING: SAVE YOUR GREEN Et BE GREEN!

S Want to give your loved-ones a gift, but are low on funds? No worries. You can still give an awe-
Ssome, thoughtful, personalized gift without shelling out the big bucks. Below are some low-bud-
get, eco-friendly gift ideas that are sure to be a crowd-pleaser:

Bake or cook. Try your hand at concocting some yummy treats. You can tailor the recipe to suit
your friends' tastebuds. Serve up the treats in a cute, reusable container and
you've made your friends and Mother Earth happy in one fell swoop.
* Chores. Sometimes, the best gifts aren't things; they're services. Offer to wash dishes for a
week, clean the garage for your aging Aunt Eileen, wash your pal's car, etc. It may not be the o
flashiest or most chic of gifts, but who wouldn't love someone cleaning their room for them for
free? Plus, you don't have to worry about cluttering the earth with gift wrap for this present.l
* Mix it up. Make a mp3 mix or cd personalized for your friend...a Pandora-station of sorts ca-
tered to your bud's musical stylings. Throw some songs on there that remind you of awesome times spent with
your friend.
Personalize. Channel the Martha Stewart in you (minus the jail time) and decorate items like
notebooks, planners, ornaments, etc. as a gift. Not too much of an artist? Go to an arts and
crafts store and buy some stickers to personalize the gift.
Print photos. Don't worry about untagging these pics. Find a couple of memorable shots of
you and your friends and actually print them out as gifts.
Get card-ed. Make a homemade card for your loved ones. The more tailored it is to the re-
cipient, the better.
Thrift-or-treat. Thrift and consignments shops have a wide
array of merchandise for sale. You can find anything from furniture to jewelry to purses to
clothes. Some local shops have items that are in mint, lightly-used condition so don't count out
these shops when looking for gifts. Check out OCL's Video on Sandy's Consignment Shop at http://www.youtube.
com/watch?v=dpjqE2v5pkk. Added perk: Supporting local business and shopping second-hand reduces manufactur-
ing waste and transportation pollution which helps keep our earth green and happy. Props, you clever shopper, you!

MAJOR CHANGES?

If you're thinking about changing your major, consider the
following tips:

1. Use the degree shopping on ISIS to make sure you are "on-
track" or reasonably close for your desired major.
2. Visit the major department's website to learn about their
educational and employment opportunities for post-graduation.
3. Ensure that you will be able to graduate on time if you
change your major.
4. Meet with faculty members within the department to dis-
cuss the coursework in which you will be newly invested.
5. Go to the college in which your desired major is housed to
meet with an advisor and find out their policy on major changes.

If you are in your first year, exploratory, or still in search of a
major, attend the various workshops and other programs pro-
vided by the Academic Advising Center (Farrior Hall) and Career
Resource Center (Reitz Union) on finding the best major fit for
you!
*Thanks to the AAC for the information on changing majors.

WORDS OF WISDOM

Be part of the new and updated Gator Guide! About 10,000
copies are distributed annually and the Gator Guide is available
online. Go to http://www.offcampus.ufl.edu/gatorguide.php
to see the Gator Guide or pick up a copy at various UF offices
including the Dean of Students Office, International Center, Wel-
come Center, and OCL's office on the 3rd floor of Peabody Hall.
