Referendum for Annexation
The City of Gainesville will hold a referendum for annexation on
Nov. 4, 2008 for the area surrounding SW 20th Avenue, and east
of Interstate 75; and registered voters residing in this proposed
annexation area (Voting Precinct 36) will be allowed to vote for
or against annexation. Please check the Off Campus Life web-
site under Newsletters for more information.

* Gator Guide to Off Campus Life-Lots of informa-
tion for different areas of off campus life.
* Off Campus Housing Locator-This website has
information for finding a roommate, furniture, or a
place to rent.
* Lunch Series-Every month we hold a lunch on dif-
ferent topics for off campus students.
* Community Advocates-Students take a class once
a week to learn more about living in the Gainesville/
Alachua County community.

City Code of the Month: Noise
Whether you are a new or returning resident of the Gaines-
ville community, the city of Gainesville has its own codes that
you may not be aware of. This month OCL highlights the
noise ordinance. (Noise is Ch. 15 in the Code of Ordinances)

Once you receive a warning, if you are found in viola-
tion of the noise ordinance again within 365 days, you
will be fined $250. A second noise violation within
365 days of the first violation will constitute a $500

Tip of the Month: Hurricane Help
The first few months of the fall semester is an active time for hurri-
canes to affect Florida and UF. Here are a few tips to help you deal
with a hurricane in your area.
* Make a communication plan with family/friends in case of

ATMs do not work

Great Gator Neighbors
The Office of Off Campus Life wants to recognize students that are
citizens of the Gainesville and Alachua County community who are
good Gator neighbors. This year we are continuing with our Great Ga-
tor Neighbor Award. Our Great Gator Neighbor program will highlight
a different student each month to showcase the involvement, achieve-
ment, and service of those students living off campus.
