Break Safety

Officer Spotlights
The University of Florida and the City of
Gainesville have law enforcement officers that are
committed to educating and working with students to
make our community a safer place. We have
highlighted two officers that continue to work with
off campus students through programming and outreach.

Corporal Jaime Kurnick, GPD
Years of Service: 6 and a half
Specialization: Community Support, Instructor in
Defense Tactics, Driving, Mounted Unit Instructor,
and Firearms
Tip for students: Lock all your doors and windows
anytime you leave the house or park your vehicle.
Don't leave valuables in your car!

Officer Darin Gentry, UFPD
Years of Service: 8
Specialization: Critical Incident Response Team,
Field Training Officer, Crime Prevention Practitioner,
assigned to the Community Services Division
Tip: Criminals are looking for people that aren't
paying attention to their surroundings. Being
aware reduces your chances of becoming victims.

Even though you may be going
home for the holidays, that does not mean
that your residence will be safe from crime
or theft. Take some extra time before you
head home to go over these tips to keep
your place safe.

* Don't leave your car or apartment door
unlocked while you are packing
* Lock up scooters in a well lit location
and place bikes inside your home
* Record serial numbers of important
items and take the list with you
* Make sure your landlord has your
home contact information in case they
need to contact you during the break
* Charge your cell phone the night
before you leave
* Do not tell strangers your family
plans...this includes posting on
Facebook
* REMEMBER to pay your GRU bill
before leaving for break!
* Check with management or your
landlord about your rent check...it may
be due before you return from break!

Off Campus Housing Locator
I
A new service provided by our office is the
Off Campus Housing Locator. This service
provides you an opportunity to search and lo-
cate off campus housing for rent or sale. It
also provides message boards to find room-
mates, sublet your residence, or buy and sell
furniture.
