Camp 54th M.V., Jacksonville, Fla., March 18, 1864

Dear Father
I have had the letter which is enclosed with this in my pocket since I came from Picket
Duty. Sorry to say that it was forgotten. But do forgive me-and don't think that you are
forgotten. I am very busy indeed have not a moment to spare-making out all sorts of
Co. returns etc. This must be done if I wish to keep square with Uncle Samuel.

But I'm happy in the prospect that in a few days Capt. Jones will join us, then a load of
responsibility will be taken from this boy's shoulders. Then I shall try and take time to
write you full account of the fight [Olustee], etc.

Have rec'd good letters from You and Mother [from] March 1st 245, 2nd 246, [and] one
from Sister Emma. All sweet-letters was rejoiced. Did not know but what Emma had
forgotten me.

Good night-very [?] well.
Affc Son
C.M. Duren
