Station Facts
* Established 1997.
* Staff: 4 FTE's (1 FWS, 2 USFS,
1 TNC).
Station Goals
* Conserve, protect, and enhance
Federal trust resources and their
habitats including national
wildlife refuges, wetlands,
endangered species, migratory
birds, and interjurisdictional
fishes.
* To maintain a national
interagency center of excellence
for prescribed fire, with an
emphasis on actual field
experience, in order to increase
skills and knowledge and to build
confidence in the application of
prescribed fire.
* Serve as a national fire resource
during national emergencies.

* U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service
field stations.
* Federal, state and local agencies.
* Private citizens.
* Private foundations.
* Universities.
* International resource
management agencies.
Activity Highlights
* Hosted 120 student detailers in
FY 02, the fifth year of operation.
* Successfully graduated 500+
student detailers in five years of
operation.
* Burned on 30 different
ownerships of (c'n p ru1 :' il,
within Florida, Alabama,
Georgia, and Tennessee in FY 02.
* Prescribed burned about 55,000
acres, with 5,000 acres in the
Wildland Urban Interface in FY
02.
* Hosted five 24-day sessions
between October and May of FY
02.
* Conducted regional prescribed
burn sessions in CA, CO, and AZ
in FY 02.
* Taught NWCG prescribed fire
courses of RX-300 Burn Boss (2
courses), RX-310 Introduction to
Fire Effects, and RX-410 Smoke
Management.
* Obtained 5 semester hours apiece
of undergraduate college credit
for 35 student detailers in FY 02.
* Provided prescribed fire training
and experience for refuges in all
FWS regions.
* Established national interagency
networks between student
detailers.
* Completed significant portions of
NWCG prescribed fire position
taskbooks of many student
detailers, including RXB1,
RXFM, RXB2, RXI1, RXI2,
FEMO, and others. Adhered to
national Incident Command
System protocols.
