Comments from Vice-President Mike Martin:
Interviews of internal candidates for the director of the Indian River REC position are underway
and should be finalized by mid January. Four individuals will be interviewed.
Interviews of internal (to UF) candidates for the Chair of Agricultural and Biological Engineering
Department Chair are underway and should be finished by late December.
There will be a national search for a new Chair for Microbiology and Cell Science.
There will be a national search for a new Director of the School of Forest Resources and
The VP Office will select and name a Director of the newly created School of Natural Resources
The VP Office will select and name a Director of the newly created Water Institute.
The FAC and VP Martin discussed the UF Strategic Plan and the differing views of UF and IFAS
regarding positions in the plan. These discussion covered both positions created through DROP
and positions to be reassigned among units to meet the goals of the Strategic Plan.
The report by Jim Preston, Karen Koch and Maria Gallo-Meagher regarding IFAS activities in
"biotechnology and genetics" as related to the Genetics Institute would still be useful to Dr. Martin
in future discussions.
We had more discussion regarding the biology major with Dr. Martin and FAC. Although Joe
Glover indicated that Zoology and Botany were simply developing a website and that this wasn't a
new major, it seems to have all the makings of one and it does not seem that IFAS is included .
The meeting adjourned at 3:25 PM.
