Sue Percival thanked the members who were rotating off the FAC for their service and welcomed
the new members coming on. She reminded the group that this committee represented the entire
IFAS faculty's concerns and expectations.
Dr. Martin reported on the following items:
UF/IFAS 2003-04 Legislative Budget Request
A document was handed out detailing the budget request, and Dr. Martin said it was for
approximately $11 million.
UF Strategic Plan
Trustees are expected to endorse the plan. The College of Natural Resources and Environment
will be placed administratively under IFAS. There are plans for a University-wide Water Institute
administered by IFAS that would contain appropriate programs. Dr. Martin views IFAS' role in the
Genetics Institute to be a one in which a basic research platform is provided that would feed into
the translational and applied research areas.
FRED has interviewed 3 candidates for chair.
IFAS Administration will take another look at the possibility of offering 75% time appointments.
Dr. Martin wants FAC to be pro-active and drive the agenda back to him and the Deans.
This year's FAC will meet once a month on a Wednesday.
Having finished the business and discussion items, Dr. Martin departed the FAC meeting about
David Wofford was elected as the 2002-2003 chair of the FAC, and Ken Quesenberry was
appointed as the secretary.
The meeting was adjourned at 4 p.m. The next several meetings will be set soon.
