The minutes of the January 16th meeting have been approved and posted at
Jack Battenfield notified the committee that a Bulletin Board has been set up and will be known
as IFAS AgriForm. We will promote the site in the near future following testing of the system.
When each meeting's minutes are posted to the web, a general email will be sent out to the IFAS
faculty and request comments to the Bulletin Board.
The State of IFAS address was appreciated by many of the faculty that participated. Comments
were positive and Dr. Martin was pleased with the exercise. Some suggestions for the next time
include reserving space on the transponder, asking Dr. Martin to send a summary of his
comments after the address and a reminder to the faculty the day before the address.
The sub-Committee to informally evaluate Dr. Martin has completed its task and will summarize
the results to be forwarded to him. A review of last year's minutes is still under assessment.
Future Faculty Development: A discussion of this program continues. The FAC feels that
development of future faculty is important, and that undergraduates should be given the
opportunity to learn about academia. However, it is not in the best interests of IFAS or the
students to bind them at such an early stage of their career to returning to UF. IFAS may be
better served by drawing from the pool of postdoctoral students and research faculty due to the
fact that they are closer to their productive years.
Salary Adjustment Program: A statement will be sent to Dr. Colburn with a copy to the faculty
senate that states the policy should not require any waiting period for reapplication (see
Florida FIRST: First, a list of potential reporters and recorders will be sent to Drs. Frazer and
Bennett. Second, members of the FAC forwarded some names to the organizing committee of
potential facilitators. We will request that Drs. Bennett and Frazer contact the people who were
named as potential facilitators to inform them that their services will not be required and to thank
them for allowing their names to be volunteered for Florida FIRST. Third, the FAC requests that
some thought be given to producing a session entitled Sustainability of Plant and Animal
