Kim Tanzer called the meeting to order at 4 PM

Professor Tanzer introduced the issue to be discussed at this information session which is
the proposal from the College of Public Health and Health Professions to create a
department of epidemiology and biostatistics.

Professor Tanzer noted that she invited Doug Barret, Dean Tisher, Dean Frank, members
of the department of epidemiology in the college of Medicine and members of relevant
concentrations in the college of public health and health professions. All parties were
invited to the information session and the special senate meeting.

Professor Tanzer noted a few issues that the Senate will need to consider
First: was there appropriate and timely communication between and within colleges and
the University Curriculum Committee
Second: The seriousness of the issue and taking into account the status of the PHHP
accreditation without this department
Third: what promises and expectations were already established and how will parties be
negatively impacted.

Professor Tanzer then reviewed several correspondences she received from both units
regarding this subject.

Dean Frank spoke about the need for the department for the college to receive

Several attendees asked questions.

The meeting adjourned at 4:43 P.M.
