en-US 3 en-USVERO BEACH In the 13 years theyve en-US owned Safari Mini Golf and Games, Chic en-US and Michele Anania have turned their oasis en-US just off Oslo Road into a prized party geten-US -en-US away. Dramatic change took place about en-US four years ago when Chic and Michele en-US decided to move to Vero Beach from Fort en-US Lauderdale and run the popular fun spot en-US hands-on.en-US Weve learned that if you want to do it en-US right, dont go cheap, Chic told Hometown en-US News during a recent tour. Every expensive en-US renovation is worth it.en-US When the Ananias took over Safari Mini en-US Golf, they decided that just being accepten-US -en-US able was not acceptable. They wanted conen-US -en-US stant improvement.en-US Weve done a lot of refurbishing, Chic en-US said. The practice green is all new turf. en-US Were working on every little thing.en-US Were always replacing the greens, en-US Michele added. If a green starts looking en-US rough, they dont complain. The Ananias en-US just roll up their sleeves for some hard work, en-US and replace it. Same goes for every other en-US part of the park.en-US We try to keep everything looking new en-US and clean, Chic said. I dont want greens en-US that are just OK. I want greens that look en-US new. We get a lot of compliments about how en-US nice everything looks. The more complien-US-en-US ments we hear, the more we want to do.en-US Weve been here four years now, fixing en-US and cleaning everything. The batting cages en-US work well now, the waterfalls work, even the en-US elephant statue squirts water just as it en-US should. We have a professional landscaper en-US come in to make sure everything looks nice. en-US The better the place looks, the more the cusen-US -en-US tomers enjoy it.en-US When youre here all the time, if there is en-US something to be fixed or improved, you see en-US it and you address it, Michele added. Our en-US being here all the time keeps it manicured en-US and enjoyable for people. If we see an area en-US that needs mulch, we mulch. Hole-by-hole, en-US we try to keep everything looking nice.en-US As we walked, Chic noticed a spot by one en-US waterfall where water was running over the en-US side. Nothing anyone else would have en-US noticed, but he did, and he stopped to en-US address it and come up with a solution. en-US Thats an advantage of having an owner on en-US site all the time if they see even the slighten-US -en-US est potential problem, they address it before en-US anyone else even notices it.en-US You see it, you fix it, Chic said.en-US The constant improvements and cleanlien-US -en-US ness are what have made Safari Mini Golf en-US and Games a popular party spot, both for en-US children and adults.en-US Youve got two full-time owners here all en-US the time, Chic said. I think that makes a en-US difference. Im here every day taking care of en-US the place.en-US Guests know if they have a request, the en-US owners are right there to make their experien-US-en-US ence perfect.en-US While individual golfers, couples, and en-US families keep the place busy, it is the parties en-US that really have Safari Mini Golf booming.en-US The birthday parties we have are the en-US most affordable packages, Chic said. With en-US our own kids we spent a fortune on birthday en-US parties, so we wanted to make parties here en-US affordable. And besides being affordable, its en-US exclusive. When theres a birthday party en-US here, theyre the en-US only party going en-US on. The party en-US room upstairs is en-US just theirs; they en-US dont have to share en-US it. There arent en-US three birthday kids en-US running around en-US competing for en-US attention. The one en-US birthday kid can en-US feel really special.en-US Besides birthday parties, we do private en-US events, Michele said. We rent out the en-US whole place for a private party or fundraiser. en-US We have people who want a totally private en-US party experience, and we can provide that. en-US We can have all the other customers leave by en-US 8 p.m., and then from 8 to midnight the en-US place is all yours for a private party.en-US We have local businesses that come for en-US their holiday parties. We close down for en-US them and the place is all theirs. Some of the en-US biggest businesses in town do parties and en-US team-building events here. With private en-US events we can entertain as many as 120 peoen-US -en-US ple at once.en-US We also do events with many of the local en-US camps, Chic added. Throughout the sumen-US -en-US mer different camps come in regularly.en-US Parties for children and adults can be taien-US -en-US lor made to your desires. Guests can bring en-US in a DJ or even a singer or a band for the en-US party. Call Chic and hell work out details.en-US Youll get indoor and outdoor fun. Safari en-US parties include use of private party rooms en-US for two hours, unlimited miniature golf on en-US 36 holes, special birthday T-shirt for the en-US guest of honor, 10 game room tokens for en-US each guest, ice cream, plates and utensils, en-US soda, water, juice, fish food to feed the Japaen-US -en-US nese Koi, room clean up, and invitations for en-US you to send out. You can book online or by en-US phone. en-USBesides the parties being affordable, you en-US get the two owners as your personal valets, en-US Chic said. And the free mini-golf champion en-US shirts for the birthday boy or girl have an en-US added bonus. Every time they wear that en-US mini-golf champ shirt back with mom or en-US dad, the birthday child gets to play for free.en-US In addition to the mini-golf, the batting en-US cages get very busy whenever theres a seaen-US -en-US son going on. We get mens softball, Cal en-US Ripken players, college kids in town for en-US spring training, they all come to use our baten-US-en-US ting cages, Chic said. There are three cages. en-US One is 35 mph, one is 50-55 mph, and the en-US third is a softball lob.en-US Theres also an extra large indoor arcade, en-US with 30 games starting at 25 cents per token. en-US Private rooms are available for any occasion.en-US The Koi pond features about 30 really big en-US fish and about 30 turtles. One side of the en-US course is bordered by a marsh that cant be en-US developed, so it remains quiet and tranquil, The hiring of a lawyer is an important decision that should not be based solely upon advertisements. en-US 4 en-USThe joys of copy and pasteen-USTen-USalk to any seasoned computer user en-US and youll find that copying and en-US pasting is a regular technique. It is en-US used to move data from one place to en-US another, even from one program to another. en-US Many users would be lost without this en-US powerful ability. en-US Repetitive tasks, such as filling in fields en-US on forms, can be quickly streamlined by en-US borrowing or copying data that has en-US already been typed somewhere in your en-US computer and inserting (or pasting it) en-US wherever you like. Even Windows elements, en-US such as icons, shortcuts, files and folders, en-US can be moved around using copy, cut and en-US paste. en-US The glue that holds the whole thing en-US together is called the clipboard and this is en-US the part that throws most people. Thats en-US because the clipboard is hidden behind the en-US scenes and you rarely ever see it. Since its en-US invisible, you have to take it on faith that en-US something is really happening when you en-US copy. Thats where most people have en-US trouble. en-US When you copy something to the en-US clipboard, there is no obvious indicator that en-US anything has happened until you go to en-US paste, and then pop, whatever you copied en-US to the clipboard pops into place wherever en-US you paste it, sometimes minutes (even en-US hours) after copying it. en-US There are actually three commands en-US associated with this process: copy, cut and en-US paste. Cut and copy are very similar with en-US one difference. When you copy something en-US to the clipboard, the original item stays put. en-US But when you cut something, the original en-US item actually deletes from its original en-US location when you finally get around to en-US pasting it. en-US This brings us to the third command: en-US paste. Once you have a bit of data copied to en-US the clipboard, whether its text, pictures, en-US files, folders, icons or whatever, you can en-US insert that data wherever you want just by en-US clicking paste. en-US Even though you can copy and paste en-US from different parts of Windows, there are en-US some rules that govern the whole thing. en-US For instance, you cant copy and paste en-US icons and folders into programs. In other en-US words, you cant copy your My Documents en-US folder and paste it into a Word document. It en-US just wont work. en-US You have to keep within loose boundaren-US -en-US ies. Copy text and paste it into areas that en-US normally hold text, such as word processors en-US and form fields. Copy graphics and paste en-US them into places that usually manage en-US graphics, such as image editors. Copy files, en-US folders and icons and paste into places that en-US support files, folders and icons, such as disk en-US drives, folders and your desktop. en-US So, how does it all work? Lets run en-US through a quick scenario. Lets say that you en-US just got done installing a new program on en-US your machine. In order to launch this en-US program, however, you have to click start, en-US then programs, then go to the new proen-US -en-US grams group and click on the program icon.en-US en-US Isnt there a way to get an icon on the en-US desktop that we can click without having to en-US navigate through all those menus? en-US Sure! We can use copy and paste to place en-US an icon on the desktop. Lets run through it en-US using Windows 7 and FreeCell. en-US First, we have to find the icon we want to en-US copy. Click start, then go to All Programs, en-US then Games. With the right mouse button, en-US click on the Free Cell icon and notice en-US another menu pops up. In the new menu en-US click copy. en-US This is where people get confused en-US because it appears that nothing has en-US happened. Have faith. The menu where we en-US clicked copy disappears and we go back to en-US the desktop, right click and click paste en-US wherever we like. In fact, we can keep en-US pasting copies of our FreeCell icon en-US wherever we want until we copy something en-US else to the clipboard. en-US An easier way to access the commands is en-US with hot key combinations listed in the en-US edit pull down menu. CTRL+C is copy, en-US CTRL+X is cut and CTRL+V is paste. en-US Those shortcut keys are often available, en-US even when there is no menu or any en-US command to click. en-US The uses for copy, cut and paste are en-US unlimited. Once you know how to do it, en-US youll be amazed at just how many chores en-US can be simplified with this technique. en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. COMPUTE THIS en-USSEAN MCCARTHY en-USaverage.en-US Two of the students had 800 on their en-US math SAT exams, and two had performed en-US over 1,000 hours of community service.en-US Money for the scholarships came from en-US both Christmas tree sales and donations to en-US the Exchange Club Foundation Trust.en-US We sell Christmas trees each year, thats en-US our big fundraiser, Mr. Whittall said. We en-US do that with the VBHS Band, and we split en-US the profits 50/50. Of the $29,000, about en-US $5,000 came from the Christmas tree sales.en-US The rest comes from our scholarship en-US foundation trust, which now has just under en-US $600,000. We use the income from that to en-US fund the scholarships. IRS law requires us to en-US give five percent of our capital each year. en-US Thats where we come up with the $29,000.en-US Mr. Whittall said that the amount in that en-US fund used to generate enough income each en-US year to fund the scholarships, but now it en-US doesnt. Thats why we have to supplement en-US it with the $5,000 from the Christmas tree en-US lot.en-US If you purchase a Christmas tree after en-US Thanksgiven-US -en-US ing from en-US the en-US Exchange en-US Club lot by en-US the hospien-US -en-US tal, that en-US money en-US goes to help en-US fund these en-US scholaren-US -en-US ships. en-US Christmas en-US tree profits en-US also fund en-US other en-US Exchange Club projects.en-US We give to other things too, like Youth en-US Guidance, The Castle, student of the en-US month, Mr. Whittall said. We give to an en-US Officer of the Quarter with the Vero Beach en-US Police Department. We have a Veteran of en-US the Year we give money too. All of the closings occurred en-US between Jan., 2008 and Sept., 2009.en-US Among the allegations were that contract en-US deposits, discounts, and cash rebates were en-US not disclosed in the purchase and sale agreeen-US -en-US ments, the buyers mortgage loan applicaen-US-en-US tions, the property appraisal reports, and en-US the HUD-I Vero Hotel incentives, including en-USpayment of the buyers cash-to-close, sales en-US forms submitted to the financial institutions en-US that financed purchases of condominium en-US units at the Vero Hotel.en-US Mr. Granitur was convicted of one count en-US of conspiracy to commit the offense of maken-US-en-US ing false statements to a federally insured en-US institution, in violation of Title 18, United en-US States Code, Section 371; and two counts of en-US making a false statement to a federally en-US insured institution, in violation of Title 18, en-US United States Code, Section 1014.en-US The Justice Department announcement en-US said that according to the evidence presenten-US -en-US ed at trial, in 2009, Eric Granitur, a member en-US of the Florida Bar, owned and operated Live en-US Oak Title, which conducted two real estate en-US closings for the purchase of five condominien-US -en-US ums at the Vero Beach Hotel and Spa. The en-US seller and developer of the Vero Beach Hotel en-US and Spa, George Heaton, offered numerous en-US incentives to buyer Stephen McKenzie to en-US purchase the condominiums. Heaton agreed en-US to pay the cash-to-close amount that the en-US buyer McKenzie was expected to bring to en-US closing. Additionally, Heaton paid for the en-US closing costs and paid McKenzie additional en-US incentives.en-US Mr. Granitur, acting as escrow agent, was en-US required to accurately disclose all contribuen-US -en-US tions from the seller. The U.S. Attorney said en-US that Mr. Granitur twice submitted false closen-US -en-US ing statements that did not disclose seller en-US credits and incentives. Additionally, the en-US closing statements failed to disclose that the en-US seller was paying the buyers cash-to-close. en-US The financial institutions relied upon the en-US closing statement in authorizing the release en-US of funds.en-US According to his website, Mr. Granitur en-US has been practicing law in Florida since en-US 1987. Number one: I get en-US that motorcycles need to and should ride en-US with their headlights on. I for one appreciate en-US that. BUT....do they have to be high beams? en-US Folks, high beams are blinding even during en-US the day. Especially if you have two or three en-US headlamps side-by-side. en-US Number two: Governor Scott is signing en-US into law that private property owners as well en-US as condo or hotel/motel owners can now en-US claim the "dry" sand between their buildings en-US and the high tide wet sand as PRIVATE en-US property. Fine. Just don't come digging into en-US the "public's wallet" when you need your en-US beaches rebuilt following a storm. Can't en-US have your cake and eat it too folks. en-USThey paved paradise en-US and put up a parking loten-USMy heart is breaking to see what a wholeen-US -en-US sale snow job the City of Stuart is doing to en-US our beloved downtown area. Perfectly good en-US Laurel Oak trees (native to Florida) are en-US being cut down and hauled to the dump! en-US And several more on SW Osceola are scheden-US -en-US uled to be cut down and killed in the next en-US couple of weeks. All these native trees will en-US be replaced with "Queen Crepe Myrtles" en-US which are native to Southeast Asia and en-US Northern Australia. Go figure!en-US If this bothers you, and I hope it does, I en-US beg you to contact each and every one of en-US your City Commissioners and beg them to en-US save the remaining Laurel Oaks on SW en-US Osceola. These trees were here long before en-US any of our current City Commissioners en-US were in office and I feel the City does not en-US have the right to destroy our native shade en-US trees. Please get pro-active on this one. en-US Thank you.en-USIronyen-USHow can anybody believe that a politician en-US who fought feverishly to take Pro-Life susen-US -en-US taining healthcare access away from tens of en-US millions of the neighbors we love as ouren-US -en-US selves could ever be considered to be a Pro-en-US Life Christian politician running for office? en-US This, in my mind, only confirms their en-US hypocrisy and ineptitude to serve in our en-US government. en-US Pro-Life does not end at birth folks, sorry, en-US it doesn't. Insist your politicians be more en-US honest than hypocritical.en-USWorried about the wateren-USOur rivers, lakes, streams AND ocean are en-US in absolute toxic conditions, and the front en-US page story in Hometown News is Local en-US immigration rallies part of nationwide proen-US -en-US tests, and medical marijuana regulation? en-US Why??? We need to expose whats going on en-US here. More need to be aware of just whats en-US taking place not only in Martin County, but en-US the entire state of Florida.en-US Editor's note: en-US The conditions of the water en-US are indeed important to Hometown News, as en-US are the new medical marijuana ordinances en-US and the immigration rallies. We did have a en-US story that gave residents a way to raise awareen-US -en-US ness regarding the lagoon and surrounding en-US waters. We are also keeping close tabs on the en-US issues with the lagoon and will continue to en-US have stories. Thanks for reading. We apprecien-US -en-US ate your comments.en-USBetter plants than peopleen-USMy rant is about people who want to call en-US plants invasive, but we are the most invasive en-US species on the planet.en-US How are we going to call another species en-US invasive when we are so invasive. I think it is en-US better to have too many plants than humans.en-USMedical marijuana and arrestsen-USIn the June 29th edition, one of the front en-US page stories is about the county commisen-US -en-US sions discussion about medical marijuana. en-US The story continued onto page 4 with page 5 en-US listing the police report for Stuart and Maren-US -en-US tin County for the preceding week. How en-US ironic that half of the Stuart Police Departen-US -en-US ment and MCSO arrests were for possession en-US and/or selling of drug paraphernalia, conen-US-en-US trolled substances, and marijuana.en-USIs it really progress?en-USThere are those who define progress as en-US the extent to which they push aside the naten-US -en-US ural world to make way for money-making en-US ventures and satisfy human ambition. en-US Progress is, in essence, the process of en-US moving forward. This may mean improving en-US quality of life. On the other hand, a move en-US forward can take one onto a railroad crossen-US -en-US ing in the path of an oncoming train. A step en-US forward may send one hurtling over a cliff.en-US So it may be seen that progress, in a posen-US-en-US itive or negative direction, is indeed in the en-US eye or pocket of the beholder.en-USSecurity camerasen-USMy rant is about the banks and the stores en-US security cameras.en-US Do you ever notice every time someone en-US robs a place they always put up a picture of a en-US big black blob and say does anyone recog en-US-en-US nize this person? In this day and age of en-US cheap, high-definition cameras, you would en-US think they could at least get one where you en-US could see peoples faces. en-US 10 en-USTeaching your clubs a lessonen-USTen-UShis past week Tiger Woods switched en-US putters. He put his old faithful Scotty en-US Cameron Newport 2, that he used to en-US win nearly every tournament on the planet en-US in the corner of the garage.en-US This is a huge move by Tiger. In our en-US world, golfers change equipment quite en-US often. Most of us recreational golfers switch en-US to the latest and greatest every few months. en-US Pros do this as well, as their club contracts en-US usually ask for them to play the newest en-US products.en-US However, the putter is the most importen-US -en-US ant club in the bag, and most pros refuse to en-US sign an endorsement contract for just a en-US putter. They tend to have a few they rotate en-US through depending on the grass they are en-US putting on and sometimes just what feels en-US like the hot putter.en-US Those of us that dont switch equipment en-US too often, should take a closer look at en-US Tigers lead. Maybe that wedge that keeps en-US hitting every chip fat, needs a spot in the en-US dark corner of the garage for a bit.en-US Trust me, I have put this to the test a few en-US times. It has even been known to have en-US positive results. That driver that couldnt en-US find the fairway for several rounds, soon en-US found itself in the junior varsity bag in the en-US back of the garage.en-US Golf clubs are like people. They can en-US become complacent. I had one putter in my en-US bag for several years. It was confident that en-US even a few stretches of missed four-footers en-US wouldnt effect its status. Wrongen-US I sent that putter to the dark side and en-US rescued another that had long since been en-US forgotten. The new putter loved being back en-US in the light. It shined on the greens as if it en-US were made of magic. My confidence grew en-US and it held its head high.en-US The word spread among the other clubs en-US in my bag. They all saw how fragile their en-US status may be. Suddenly my drives were en-US going straighter, my irons finding greens. en-US My sand wedge become mush more reliable en-US around the greens and from bunkers. en-US Of course, there were a few hold outs. My en-US stubborn 3-wood should know better. Not a en-US one has lived long in my bag. A couple of en-US topped fairway shots or a sliced drive is a en-US quick way to send them to the back of the en-US line.en-US I am not a mean person, but I expect the en-US same effort from my clubs as I do myself. en-US They need to at least try and I will not stand en-US for smugness from my clubs. en-US I know that being sent to the dark helps. en-US Recently, I found an old putter in one of my en-US golf bags in that back corner. On the carpet en-US in the house, it rolled the ball very well. It en-US felt great in my hands. I pulled out the en-US putter I had in my varsity bag and the two en-US had a putt-off. It was close, and the old en-US putter found a spot in the bag. For now.en-US As well as this works with your clubs, I en-US am here to tell you it will not work on golf en-US balls, and sometimes those pesky spheres en-US can try to sabotage the best clubs.en-US Ever have one of those rounds where you en-US played the same ball all day? That ball en-US wanted to play. It enjoyed the warmth of the en-US Sun hitting it as it rested in the fairway. It en-US loved the feeling of dropping into the hole en-US as that 20-foot birdie putt rolled in.en-US Then there are those balls that want en-US nothing more than to go swimming or rest en-US in the shade of the trees. You want to know en-US why that beautiful ball you just found went en-US back in the woods or water just a hole or en-US two later? Because thats where it wanted to en-US be and there is no teaching a golf ball otheren-US -en-US wise.en-US So the next time your clubs let you down, en-US send them to the darkness for an attitude en-US adjustment. The club you bring out may en-US just be so happy to be playing again that it en-US will make any and every shot asked of it. en-US Just remember, those golf balls will do what en-US they feel is best for them and sometimes try en-US to make you blame the clubs. The difficult en-US part is figuring out which it is. Good luck!en-US James Stammer hosts the Thursday Night en-US Golf Show on WSTU 1450-AM. Contact him en-US at en-US stammergolf@yahoo.com.
