SUBJECT: De Mesa House Interpretive Planning

A meeting was held in the Board Room of the Historic St. Augustine
Preservation Board on May 23, 1984 to discuss the function of the de Mesa
House within the context of the Board's overall interpretive goal.

After a lengthy discussion, a consensus was reached. It was agreed
that the house should remain as an interpretive station, and that the specific
use should be changed from a Territorial period furnished house museum to a
mix of period rooms and thematic exhibits, with special emphasis on the
Sanchez era.

It was further agreed that a second meeting should be held in the
near future to formulate specific recommendations on the types of period
rooms to be created and the themes to be treated in the exhibit space. This
meeting, to which you are cordially invited, will be held in the Board Room
at 10:00 a.m., on Tuesday, June 5, 1984.
