This will confirm our recent telephone conversations regarding
the DeMesa House Project.
According to my calculations, the total allowable cost for the
research work completed to date is $17,549.50. The federal share
is $8,774.75. We have already made one reimbursement of $4,408.22,
and we have requested additional reimbursements of $2,492.50 and
This will leave a balance of $2,240.25 in the existing Phase
I grant -- enough to assist the preparation of plans and specs for
the initial work of roof restoration with, I should think, something
As soon as the plans and specs are ready, we can initiate an
amendment to the project to pick up the additional $8,985.00 re-
served for the initial restoration work. Assuming that there will
be a little something left from the plans items, we should be in
good shape to handle a roofing project of $18-20,000.
I have talked with Herschel Shepard, and he is aware that we
must have the plans and specs in time to submit the project amend-
ment by September 30. He indicated that this will not be a
