Dear deMesa Volunteers:
We are pleased to inform you that through the Guild funds we have been
able to purchase three beautiful items of children's clothing from the
Territorial Period that will be on display in the deMesa House. There
is an infant's gown, a little girl's dress and a petticoat for that dress.
These are made of very fine white broadcloth "lawn" trimmed in hand made
lace and tiny cutwork embroidery and mother-of-pearl buttons.
It is personal items like these that make the house come alive for the
visitors and for you as interpreters of the house's history. We hope to add
to the collection in the deMesa House through contributions of the Guild and
from other sources. If you happen to knowcf rare items of the 1830's or 40's ,
or if you know of a dealer who handles this period of collectibles, please
pass along the information to Susan or Winnie.
As with all of our antiques, we must take special care with these delicate
children's dresses. Please do not allow them to be touched. If you notice wear
or damage on any of the collectibles, please report it at once to a staff member.
Thank you all for your continued hard work and support.
