The University of Florida offers a six-week course
at the Instituto Brasil-Estados Unidos (IBEU),
located in Rio de Janeiro. A sophisticated city of
over 10 million people, Rio is one of the world's
most beautiful urban settings. The city boasts
world-famous beaches and a vibrant cultural scene.
Application Deadline:
April 1, 2008
2008 Summer Program fee: $3,425
Fee includes: Tuition for 6 credits, housing and
some meals, several local excursions, language and
cultural instruction, on-site orientation, international
health insurance, and medical emergency assistance.
Round-trip airfare is not included.

Home-stays with Brazilian families
Language classes in Portuguese three levels of
instruction
Brazilian culture and civilization classes
Opportunity for organized cultural excursions to:
Petropolis, Rio's historic center and nature parks, as well
as Sugar Loaf and Corcovado (additional excursion fees
may apply)
Air passes available to other cities such as Sio Paulo,
Porto Alegre, Salvador, and Recife through US travel
agents
COURSE OFFERINGS
each course is for 3 undergraduate transfer credits (courses
taken generally satisfy UF academic requirements):
* Language (taught by IBEU faculty)
* Culture & Civilization (taught by senior UF faculty and guest
lecturers, including professors from partner-institution
Georgetown University)
Eligibility: UF and Non-UF students who :
> Are at least 18 years of age
> Have a 2.5 GPA
> Have taken at least one year of Portuguese
language (two semesters or one intensive course)

UF in Rio
The University of Florida offers a six-
week program at the Instituto
Brasil-Estados Unidos (IBEU), located
in the heart of the Copacabana section
of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. A highly
regarded center for language
instruction, IBEU provides pleasant
classrooms, an Internet-equipped
language laboratory, a library, and
highly trained language instructors.
Sponsors: This program is sponsored
by the UF Center for Latin American
Studies in collaboration (starting 2008)
with its counterpart at Georgetown
University.
Housing
Participants live with families, selected
by IBEU, in Copacabana and
neighboring districts close to IBEU .
Living with local families promotes
immersion in the language and culture
of Brazil. Host families provide
breakfast and dinner.
Academic Credits
This is a UF program and credits taken
can satisfy major, minor, and university
requirements, with prior approval.
Transfer credit will be earned with
courses taught at Instituto Brasil-
Estados Unidos (IBEU).
Application deadline is April 1, 2008.
Applications considered on space-available
basis, so please apply early.

FEES DUE UPON APPLICATION:
A $250 nonrefundable deposit toward the total cost of the
program is required at the time of application. The
remaining fees are due no later than 30 days prior to
departure.
Not Included in the program fees:

Financial Aid
University of Florida students needing financial aid
should apply through UF Student Financial Affairs (SFA).
Non-UF students needing financial aid must apply to their

FLAS: With 140 contact hours, this program is
specifically designed to meet requirements for Title VI /
FLAS Scholarships.
