FROM: Hector L. Miron

SUBJECT: Thatch Roof for the Blacksmith
Specifications for Fire-Proofing

Based on the conversation held yesterday with the State Fire Marshall,
Mr. Tom King, here follow the specifications that must be followed in the
fire-proofing of the thatch roof for the Blacksmith Shop:

1. The fronds must be thoroughly dry brown in color before they can
be treated.

2. The fronds then have to be given two coats of a non-intumescent fire
retardant coating, as follows:

A. a base coat of Flame Control Coating No. 129 is to be applied
with a mechanical, non-air, spray.

B. an over-coat is then applied of Flame Control Coating No. 130,
in the same fashion as above.

3. These coatings must be applied to each frond, on both sides, before the
fronds are placed on the roof.

4. The twine that will be used for lashing the fronds in place must also
be coated, using Coating No. 130 and the fronds lashed in place while
the twine is wet.

5. The rafters as well as the poles that will be placed on top of the fronds
to hold them in place should also be coated with a base and an over-coat
as above.

6. The fire-retardant protection afforded the roof by the above treatment
will last for five years.
