ST. AUGUSTINE HISTORICAL RESTORATION AND PRESERVATION COMMISSION
P. 0. Box 1987 46 St. George St.
ST. AUGUSTINE, FLORIDA
32084

April 18, 1968

Memo to: Mr. Bradley G. Brewer
From: R. H. Steinbach

Subject: Block 7, Lot 4

Below follows a condensation of all available information on the subject block,
which you requested. I hope it will be of some help.

LOT 4, BLOCK 7

1"fTh Puente--Stone house of Bernado Gonzalez. Lot size: N-S 15 vara (42')
E-W 71 vara (198.8')

House is indicated as rectangle with the long axis orientated N-S.

1765--Moncrief--House is indicated as a rectangle with its long axis orientated
N-S. The north wall appears to be on the property line. The houee
is divided into two equal parts. Although scaling from (aonrerief
is not too accurate, the building appears to be approximately 36'
long and 15' deep. There is a wooden building to the east or rear
which was probably a kitchen, and was probably about 12' x 18' in
size.

The lot is vacant on the rest of the available historic maps.

The archaeology revealed the presence of the remains of two structures, 1 & 2.
There is some correlation in the dimensions as regards building 2 and the scaled
measurements from Moncrief. (The measured distance of Room A, Building 1
is 17.4', while the scaled distance is 15'. There is no other apparent similarity
between the available cartographic evidence and the archaeology.

I would strongly advise a thorough search of the documents as well as a
comprehensive excavation of the area before final plans are made for any
proposed reconstruction.
