Note: It is assumed the single children all lived in the homestead
with the mother. Since Don Lorenzo Josef was known to have
more than a few houses, it is possible that those not listed
were living in some of the other de Leon places.

The Argulles Family

Being the background of the family lineage
of Mrs. Lorenzo Josef de Leon, the 1st.
Although Capt. Don Lorenso Josef de Leon was
from Spain, his wife was a native girl from
one of the very early families. In fact there
are papers in our Library dealing with the
supposed first white child born in this Spanish
Colony, Bartolome de Arguelles, 1565.
So this family had the very earliest connections.
About the earliest one I have found in the records
was a resident in 1602, same name as above.
However, Luisa de los Angeles Arguelles was born
in St. Augustine in 1642 and her family goes back to
1614 documented.
To begin:
Don Alonso de Arguelles was married Nov. 24, 1614
Ph. 24.
to Luisa Angeles Florencia.
children:
Antonio, May 8, 1620
Alonso July 12 1622
Jose, bec. 23, 1624(Father was Sgt. Major)
Toribio, April 9, 1630
Maria, May 1632
COMMENT: Don Alonso was "Lt" when he married and
Sgt. Major by 1624.

Don Alonso died Aug. 3, 1632 Ph.
Dona Luisa, his wife, died Mar.23 1637 Ph. 18
*Antonio continues this particular line:

No. 48-Ruined
House list, Capt. Don Antonio Arguelles married Nov. 20,
1641, Ph/ 4
9 children Augustina Crespo y
Rodriguez.
1, Luisa, Index 1642, Ph.
Sponser: The Treasurer: Francisco
m. 1660 Menendez Marques.
Capt. Lorenzo Josef de Leon.

No. 1)

9, Antonia, b. 1660,
m. 1680 Don Geronimo Regidor

NQota All of the de Leon children were 1st cousins to
Bonifacio Gonzales, 1st husband of Mrs. Pedro
Gonzales. All all were 1st cousin to the Regidor
and Dias Mexia children. Many of them blending these
families. You can see that Mrs. Dias Mexia lived
at No. 30 on the R.H.L. and this was within the 31
house area.

Mrs. de Leon and Mrs. Mexia's parents lived at No. 48
on the list. Add that to Mrs. Leon's daughters at 21
and 44 and 36 and you have a little nest of relatives
up that way, all to lose their houses in 1702.
