Mr. Chester E. Benet
32 Lee Drive
St. AugustineBeach, Florida 32084

Dear Chester,

I Went over to the courthouse this morning, but was told that you
were on vacation. The HSAPB staff archaeologist, Stanley Bond, has been
excavating a coquina foundation with a tabby floor at 33 Charlotte Street.
He has also found the foundations for two large hearths.

As this property was in your family for quite along time, I wondered
if you had any information, written or remembered, that may help in our
investigation of the building that at one time stood there. None of the
documentary research has yielded anything to indicate a coquina building.
Luis Atana suspects that it may have been the site of the fort's blacksmith
forge from about 1793 to 1806, but he too cannot definitely link it to that
piece of ground.

If you have any information, especially old pictures
the lot and its buildings, we would certainly appreciate
with us. I have included a brief listing of items about

Sincerely,

Susan R. Parker
Historian

or photos, about
your sharing them
the property.

Quesad Inventory #7)

1790 #7 Crown lot in the possession of Diego Hernandez Eno
mention of buildings] measuring 12 varas north-south, 39
varas east-west. Bounded on north by Crown lot occupied by
Juan Paredes, who built a wooden two-story house on his
property; south by Crown lot in possession of Mateo
Laurencio; west by San Carlos Street; east by Bartolome
Lopez assessment: 468 reales <"Quesada Inventory" Bundle
320, East Florida Papers)
