Gabber October 20 October 26, 2011 35 Excerpts heard at the October 18, 2011Gulfport City Council MeetingPublic Comment & Council QuotesOverheard at Gulfports Codes Workshops I said, We are older, cut us some slack and my son will get rid of the truck?...I am an 80-year old woman, I have a bad back, I have a lot of pain. I do the best I can... Do you want the older folks and the people who have problems to move out of town, is that the game plan? I didnt know Gulfport was part of the Third Reich. Im here again about the recreational vehicles. I thought we went through this once. Youre running people out of town. Im close to just packing up and leaving town. Ive had a boat since I moved here 40 years ago... I think this fellow right here and I have the same idea, that its time to get out of Gulfport. I just dont think it is going to work. First of all, were going to be alienating people that we should be approaching and talking to on a one to one basis. I call us citizens in this town and not con sumers, and I think its really important we con sider the people weve been talking about. Are they people who have lived here a long time?... If we are going after people for lawns, I suggest we get rid of lawns I suggest we get rid of grass... I think its important that we take a look at whats environ mentally sustainable. Im like, who in the gods name even thought of this stuff? This is Gulfport, for heavens sake. You live here in Gulfport and if you dont like it and you dont like these things, this isnt the place for you. I would like to see you maybe take the monkey off your own back (and take a look at the codes you have.)... I live on a place that would be challenged to address some of these issues...I think people are upset more about the potential and the rumor mill. I moved from a transitional neighborhood where I saw a lot of things... I got to know the local godfa ther pretty well. I understand what it means to live around trash, and I didnt care for it, but there are extenuating circumstances sometimes, too. I know what its like and I didnt like it but its a hard issue to deal with. I moved to Gulfport because I want to play with my toys, and theres a big differ ence between trash and toys. What that does is remove the love letter that certain residents have spoke of, from Mr. Earling. Overheard at Gulfport City CouncilWhat are some of the things we could (add) to make us a more environmental city? That was actually pain waiting for a break, I dont know how you guys do it. I dont think its appropriate for a councilmem ber to solicit a petition. I happen to be married to a man who is very fussy about live music, and he usually complains about it. He said, this band is tight. I never try and play an instrument anywhere near him. I said, We are older, cut us some slack and my son will get rid of the truck?...I am an 80-year old woman, I have a bad back, I have a lot of pain. I have an RV in my yard. I got permission from the city, in writing. I thought that was an impor tant thing, to be able to use and enjoy your prop erty.
