News & Notes

Mark your calendars for the first brown
bag of spring semester:

Using data driven models to identify
social injustice in Florida schools:
Findings, costs, options, and
implications

Presenters: Harry Daniels, CE Faculty,
Eric Thompson, SCG doctoral student
and Dia Hardin, SCG MED/EDS student

Wednesday, February 24 from 11:00am-
12:30pm in the Terrace Room

This research has been investigating
whether children of the working poor
fare as well as their more affluent
counterparts when it comes to academic
performance. More specifically, we are
addressing question of how family life
style profile contributes to children's
performance in school as measured by
scores on standardized tests (FCAT).
Because we have found evidence of a
significant and pervasive achievement
gap among groups of students with
different family life style profiles, we are
examining the reasons for the existence
of the achievement gap and exploring
alternative strategies for addressing and
closing it.

Bring your lunch, refreshments and cookies
will be provided.

RSVP to Rosie: rwarner@coe.ufl.edu by
Monday, February 22.

We hope to see you there!
