Office of Educational Research Bulletin (ORB)

News & Notes

Yesterday marked the end of my tenure
as Associate Dean for Research, and,
when you read this, know that I have
officially and happily returned full-time
to the erstwhile Department of Special
Education. Although I am no longer
ADR, Ana was very good about giving
me top billing in this ORB issue to say
goodbye.

What I've enjoyed and valued most in
my three years as ADR is the
opportunity I've had to get to know
many of you and the kind of research
you're doing. I wish everyone had the
same opportunity, because the
experience opened my eyes-and would
be sure to open theirs-to interesting
work I previously knew nothing about
and to colleagues whose research skill I
knew only by hearsay.

I especially have enjoyed working with
those of you who have availed
yourselves of OER services. As Research
Dean, I was in the enviable position of
benefiting from every one of your
submissions and every project you had
funded. Have I mentioned that this year
we brought in more money in new
awards than we applied for in 2005-06,
my first year as ADR? Now that's an
achievement we can all take pride in!

Of course, I have had great help along
the way, and many of you know
through experience the extraordinary
quality of the support that Brian and
Ana provide. (Not to mention Rosie's
consistently cheery and helpful
presence...) Take heart in the fact that
they will remain in OER. I know I do.

See you soon... around the college!

Paul
