January 20, 2009 will mark a historic day in American
history when the new presidential administration is
sworn into office. January 1, 2009 marked a historic day
in the Division ofHospital Medicine's history when Dr.
Jeff House passed the division chief torch to Dr. Vijay
Konda. Dr. JeffHouse will now be an Associate Pro-
gram Director. -- -
Sr. House's career with the Division of Hospital
Medicine began when he accepted the position
as Interim Division Chief in 2005. He became Divi-
sion Chief in 2006 and under his leadership, the divi-
sion grew from 11 full time physicians to 18 full time
physicians, 1 physician assistant, 3 per diem physi-
cians, 1 ARNP, 1 administrative assistant and 1 admin-
istrator. The division hosts a monthly journal club, has
participated in grand round presentations and assisted
on with the resident teaching service. With Dr. House's
guidance, a few of the division's physicians participate
on various committees such as Med Safety, Through-
put, Medical Performance Improvement and Faculty
Council. Dr. House will be sorely missed. The division
of hospital medicine wishes him much success in his

Can Internal Medicine team pick
up a clinical center patient from
If the hospitalist would like to transfer a
patient to the Internal Medicine service,
this is possible as long as there is attend-
ing-to-attending discussion. Generally
this is not done because the ward teams
will simply "cap" earlier, resulting in earlier
ER admissions to Hospital Medi-
cine. However if there is an special case
that has unique teaching value, then a
transfer could be considered.
