Subject: construction at Arrivas House
Date: May 23, 2000
We were surprised to see construction activities on the balcony began yesterday on the
Arrivas House. The workers gave little attention to the safety and convenience of people
walking on St. George Street. Later in the day a tape barrier was put in place. If such construction
is to continue, appropriate measures should be taken for the safety of pedestrians on St. George
Street and to facilitate as much as possible the safe entry and exit of our customers. If customers
do not feel safe or welcome, they will not come in.
This is a busy business week proceeding Memorial Day. Unfortunately, once
construction activities began, our customer traffic dropped off and our sales slowed significantly.
We are sure you are not aware of these details. But the city does not function in a
vacuum. There must be some sort of accommodation for surrounding business and tourist
