Power of Attorney
To J. Patton Anderson
Know all men by these presents that I Ellen A. Beatty of the County of Jefferson & State
of Florida have made, constituted and appointed, and by these presents do make,
constitute and appoint, J. Patton Anderson of the same County and State, my true and
lawful attorney, for me and in my name, to grant bargain, sell and convey any or all of
those portions of lands lying in the Counties of Chickasaw, Octibbeha, Winston, Scott,
Leake, Lowndes, Monroe or Noxubee in the State of Mississippi; or any lands elsewhere
in said state which I may own or be entitled to, unto such persons and for such price or
prices as he shall think proper and also for me and in my stead as my proper act and deed,
to sign seal and deliver and acknowledge all such deed or deeds of conveyance as shall be
necessary for the absolute granting and assuring of the premises to the purchaser or
purchasers in fee simple: And also to ask, demand, sue for, recover and receive
possession of any or all of said lands in case the same should be in the adverse possession
of other claimants, and for this purpose to employ counsel, agree upon terms for fees,
submit any matter in controversy relating to said lands to arbitration or referees, and to
enter into bond to abide by their award to compromise with any and all such claimants
to said lands by paying or agreeing to pay him or them whatever my attorney aforesaid
may think right & proper, or by receiving money, notes or property from them in
fulfillment of any compromise that may be agreed upon and in short to do anything
with any or all of said lands which to my said attorney may seem fit & proper, and
generally, all and everything in the law whatsoever needful to be done in and about the
premises for me and in my name, to do and perform as fully to all intents & purposes as I
myself might or could do if personally present and attorneys one or more under him for
the purposes aforesaid to make and constitute and again at pleasure to revoke. Hereby
ratifying and affirming all my said attorney shall lawfully do in and about the premises
by virtue hereof In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my seal
this first day of May Eighteen Hundred and Sixty.

Be it remembered that on this the first day of May in the year of our Lord one thousand
eight hundred and sixty, before me Peyton H. Skipwith, a commissioner resident in the
city of New Orleans, duly commissioned and qualified by the executive authority, and
under the laws of the state of Mississippi, to take the acknowledgement of deeds, etc. to
be used or recorded therein personally appeared Ellen A. Beatty to me personally known
to be the individual named in and who executes the foregoing power of attorney, and
acknowledged the same to be her act and deed for the purposes therein mentioned; In
witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand and affixed my official seal the day and
year above said
