Agreement made and entered into between J. Patton Anderson of Casa Bianca Jefferson
County Florida and A.G.A. Godwin of Georgia: witnesseth that the said Godwin agrees
and promises to oversee for said Anderson during the year 1860 at the said Casa Bianca
Plantation to manage the negroes and the Plantation to the best advantage to devote
his time and energies to the raising of a good crop of cotton corn etc. and generally to do
and perform all the services usually required of an overseer, being at all times subject
however to the instructions of said Anderson. The said Godwin agrees to furnish his own
horse and provisions etc. for himself and family; and the said Anderson on his part agrees
to pay to said Godwin for his said services at the rate of three hundred dollars per annum
- to find said Godwin & family in meal to furnish his horse with provender, and to
furnish Godwin's family with an old negro woman and a small boy to cook and wait on
them.
And both parties mutually agree that should either become dissatisfied at any time
during the year and before the same has expired, he has the privilege at once to annul this
contract as to its future operation; But in that event, the said Godwin is only entitled to
and shall only receive pay for the services actually rendered, at the rate of $350 per
annum.
