Yazoo City May 4, 1864
Dr Sir
Learning that Mr. R. B. Mayer is to write you, I deem it advisable to send the note
given in favor of my deceased husband who called on Mr. O'Donnell according to your
instructions, but did not receive the amount as the fact of my being in possession of the
note will show.
I should not send the note to you for payment now, were it not that I am in
circumstances, and if it is not convenient for you to pay it, so not harass yourself to so for
I have been too much distressed in my life for money not to be able to sympathise [sic]
with others in like condition, and do not wish to do unto others as I have been served by
others. Three of my family were taken from me last Fall by the epidemic. My Husband,
My daughter, Mrs. Kidd, and My Son, Jno. Miller, a loss from which I shall never
recover. Give my respects to your lady and receive the same for yourself from Yrs
