INTRODUCTION
The idea for this project started with the desire to prepare a sort of
directory or who's who in the information field in the Caribbean, in
response to the demand of many professionals and educators in the
field. But, in the process, the project evolved with a comprehensive
focus. It has ended with the creation of a portal in which five major areas
or collections are presented: first, a segment of Biographies and Oral
History of the Information Professionals in the Caribbean, outstanding
members in the field, which play a major role; second, a Directory of
Information Professionals in the Caribbean, in an effort to identify
generalists and specialists in the field, make available the information,
and propitiate collaboration and research; third, Information for All in the
Caribbean: Directory of Information Units in the Region, with the
identification and historical and general description of Information Units
in the Caribbean; fourth, a Directory of Professional Associations in the
Information Field in the Caribbean; and, fifth, the identification and
description of The Information Industry in the Caribbean.
All documentation will be included in the CARIBBEANA: The Portal, a
site that will provide information regarding Collections, News, Guidelines
and Forms, Project's Archives, Assessment and Evaluation,
Bibliography, Project Work Team, Credits & Sponsors, and Contact
Information.
