Anguilla.

Amendment of
Section 2 of the
Principal Act.


1. This Ordinance may be cited as the
Interpretation and General Clauses Act
(Amendment) Ordinance, 1956, and shall be
read as one with the Interpretation and
General Clauses Act, 1955, as amended, here-
inafter called the Principal Act.

2. (1) Section 2 of the Principal Act is
hereby amended-

(a) by substituting the following for the
definition of the expression "Ad-
ministrator":-

"Administrator" means the per-
son for the time being holding the
office of Administrator of the
Colony and includes any person

charging the functions of that
office and to the extent to which
a Deputy appointed under Article
8 of the Leeward Islands Letters
Patent, 1956, is authorised to
discharge those functions, that
Deputy;

(b) by inserting the following definition
after the definition of the expression
"Administrator":-

"Attorney General" means the
Attorney General of the Leeward
Islands ;

(c) by inserting the following definition
between the definitions of the
expressions "Crown Agents" and
"day":-

"Crown Attorney" means the
Crown Attorney of the Colony;

(d) by re-numbering subsections (3), (4)
and (5) as subsections (4), (5) and
(6) respectively ; and

(e) by inserting the following as sub-
section (3) of the section :-

"(3) Whenever in any Act passed
by General Legislature of the Lee-
ward Islands or in any Ordinance
having effect in the Colony on the
first day of July, 1956, or in any
Ordinance passed thereafter, the
expression "Governor" appears,
save as otherwise expressly pro-
vided or implied in such Act or
Ordinance, that expression shall be
deemed to include the officer for the

time being administering the Gov-
ernment of the Colony."

(2) This section shall be deemed to have
had effect as from the first day of July, 1956.

Amendment of
section 2 of
the Principal
Ordinance.


1. This Ordinance may be cited as the
Defence Force (Amendment) Ordinance,
1956, and shall be read as one with the
Defence Force Ordinance, 1954, hereinafter
called the Principal Ordinance.

2. Save and except in sections 2, 8 and
14 of the Principal Ordinance the words
"warrant officer," shall be inserted immedi-
ately before the words "non-commissioned
officer" wherever those words occur in the
said Ordinance.

3. Section 2 of the Principal Ordinance is
hereby amended--

(i) by inserting the words "a warrant
officer," immediately before the
words "a non-commissioned offi-
cer" in the definition of the
expression "member of the
Force"; and

4. After section 7 of the Principal Ordi-
nance the following new section numbered
7A shall be inserted-

"warrant 7A. The Commanding Officer,
offers, with the approval of the Gov-
ernor, shall from time to time
appoint such number of warrant
officers of the Force as may be
necessary."

5. Paragraph (b) of subsection (5) of
section 12 of the Principal Ordinance is
hereby amended by substituting the words
"for any good or sufficient cause" for the
words "for any good and sufficient cause".

6. Subsection (2) of section 14 of the
Principal Ordinance is hereby amended-

(i) by inserting the words "warrant
officer," immediately before the
words "non-commissioned officer";
and

(ii) by inserting the words "warrant
officers," immediately before the
words "non-commissioned offi-
cers".

7. Subsection (2) of section 15 of the
Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by
inserting the words "warrant officers"
immediately before the words "non-com-
missioned officers" wherever these words
occur in the said subsection.

8. Subsection (5) of section 23 of the
Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by in-
serting the following words between the word
"expired" and the immediately following
full-stop:-


", and may, notwithstanding anything
contained to the contrary in any other
Ordinance, be instituted at any time
within two months after the time at
which the offence becomes known to
the Commanding Officer if the alleged
offender is then apprehended, or, if he
is not then apprehended, then within
two months after the time at which he
is apprehended".

by Registration Act (Amendment) Ordinance,
1956, and shall be read as one with the Title
Cap. 99. by Registration Act, as amended, hereinafter
called the Principal Act.

Amendment of 2. Paragraph 3 of the Fifth Schedule to
paragraph 3 of the Principal Act is hereby amended by the

Act.

2. Subsection (1) of section 3 of the Prin-
cipal Act is hereby amended by the deletion
of the words "except the Anguilla Circuit,".

3. Sections 4 and 5 of the Principal Act
are hereby amended by the deletion of the
words "residing in the islands of Saint Chris-
topher or Nevis,".

4. Section 8 of the Principal Act is
hereby amended-

(a) by the substitution of "22nd" for

Supreme Court Act (Amendment) Ordinance,
1956, and shall be read as one with the
Supreme Court Act, as amended, hereinafter
called the Principal Act.

2. Section 5 of the Principal Act is hereby
amended by the substitution of the following
for subsection (2) thereof :-

"(2) The Registrar of the Colony shall
be the Registrar for each of the Saint
Christopher, Nevis, and Anguilla Circuits
and shall be styled the Registrar for the
Saint Christopher Circuit when acting as
the Registrar for the Saint Christopher
Circuit, the Registrar for the Nevis Cir-
cuit when acting as Registrar for the
Nevis Circuit and the Registrar for the
