Applications are invited for the post of Manager and
Programme Director of the Windward Islands Broad-
casting Service, particulars of which are as follows :-
APPOINTMENT: The post is non-pensionable
and the appointment will be up to and including the 31st
March, 1959, in the first instance. Vacation leave earn-
ed in respect of this service will be granted before the
expiration of this period. The officer will be subject
to the Colonial Regulations, local General Orders and
the Financial and Store Rules so far as they are
applicable.
SALARY : The salary of the post is at the rate of
$6,480 (1,350) per annum.
ALLOWANCES: Travelling and subsistence
allowances are pa) able in accordance with local regula-
tionQ in respect of approved travel on duty.
QUARI'ERS: Government quarters are not
provided.
PASSAGES: Free first class passages to Grenada
will be provided for the officer, his wife and children, not
exceeding five persons in all ; children to be under 18
years of age, unmarried and dependent on the officer.
Free return passages will also be provided on the satis-
factory completion of the period of engagement.
LEAVE AND LEAVE PASSAGES: Vacation
leave will be granted at the rate of one week for each
completed period of three months resident service ; such
leave to be taken on the satisfactory termination of the
officer's engagement.
DUTIES : The Broadcasting Station will be
operated as a sub-department of Government and the
officer will be responsible for its financial and general
management. ,;He will be required to supervise all
programmes, and will be expected to undertake such
duties in connection with broadcasting as the Governor
may, from time to time, direct.
QUALIFICATIONS : Applicants should have
broadcasting experience particularly in script writing
and production of radio programmes, as well as good
administrative experience and ability. They should
also possess a sound knowledge of conditions in the
Caribbean Area and should be familiar with current
world events. Knowledge of copyright laws and the
laws of libel and slander, though not essential, would be
an asset totthe applicant.
MEDICAL ATTENDANCE: Free medical attend-
ance and medicines are not provided.
TAXATION : All Government Officers are liable
to taxation imposed by local legislation.
Applications giving full particulars of candidates'
qualifications and experience, and accompanied by two
testimonials which will not be returned, should be
addressed to the Chief Secretary, Windward Islands,
Grenada, and should reach him not later than the
31st July, 1956.

Proclamation dated the 18th day of July 1956, pro-
roguing the Legislative Council of the Colony.
BY THE GOVERNOR OF THE LEEWARD ISLANDS.

A PROCLAMATION.

Governor.

WHEREAS the Legislative Council of the Colony of
Saint Christopher, Nevis and Anguilla has been duly con-
stituted under the provisions of the Saint Christopher,
Nevis and Anguilla Constitution and Elections Ordinance,
1952 (No. 5/1952):
AND WHEREAS by proclamation under the hand
of the Governor dated the 8th day of October, 1952, issued
under the provisions of subsection (1) of section 25 of the
said Ordinance, the said Council was first summoned to
meet in session for the despatch of public business at such
time and place as may be appointed under section 18 of this
Ordinance :
AND WHEREAS by proclamation dated the 23rd
day of November, 1955, a session of the said Council was
appointed to be held at 11 o' clock in the forenoon at the
Court House in the Town of Basseterre in the aforesaid
Colony on Saturday the 3rd day of December, 1955:
AND WHEREAS in pursuance of the aforesaid pro-
clamations the said Council duly met in session on the 3rd
day of December, 1955:
AND WHEREAS it is provided, inter alia, by sub-
section (1) of section 25 of the said Ordinance that the
Governor may at any time, by proclamation, prorogue the
said Legislative Council:







AND WHEREAS it appears expedient to prorogue
the said Council:

NOW, THEREFORE, in exercise of the powers in
me vested as hereinbefore recited I do hereby prorogue the
Legislative Council of the Colony of Saint Christopher,
Nevis and Anguilla until such further date as may be ap-
pointed, by Proclamation of the Administrator under the
provisions of section 18 of the said Ordinance, for the first
sitting in the next session of the said Council.

AND the Members of the said Council and all other
Her Majesty's Officers and loving subjects in the said
Colony and all those whom it may concern are hereby re-
quired to take due notice hereof and to govern themselves
accordingly.

pher, this 18th day of July, 1956, in the fifth

ENACTED by the Legislature of Saint
Christopher Nevis and Anguilla as follows:-

1. This Ordinance may be cited as the
Rent Restriction (Amendment) Ordinance,
1956, and shall be read as one with the Rent
Restriction Ordinance, 1954, hereinafter
called the Principal Ordinance.

2. Section 5 of the Principal Ordinance
is hereby amended by inserting the words
"before that date" immediately after the
words "last so let" occurring therein.

3. Subsection (2) of section 16 of the
Principal Ordinance is hereby amended by
inserting the words "the Court" immediately
before the words "may discharge or rescind"
occurring therein.

An Ordinance to amend the Nevis Cot-
ton Marketing Ordinance, 1955.

ENACTED by the Legislature of Saint
Christopher Nevis and Anguilla as follows :-


Short Title.


1/1955.

Amendment of
section 5 of the
Principal
Ordinance.


1. This Ordinance may be cited as the
Nevis Cotton Marketing (Amendment) Ordi-
nance, 1956, and shall be read as one with
the Nevis Cotton Marketing Ordinance, 1955,
hereinafter called the Principal Ordinance.

2. Section 5 of the Principal Ordinance is
hereby amended by the substitution of the
words "a term not exceeding six months"
for the words "six months" occurring therein.

Customs Duties

Resolution of the Legislative Council of Saint
Christopher Nevis and Anguilla dated the
27th day of March, 1956, made under section
14 of the Customs Duties Ordinance, 1927
(No. 6 of 1927), as amended.


BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislative Council
of Saint Christopher Nevis and Anguilla as follows:-
(a) Between items I8a and 19 of the Second
Schedule to the Customs Duties Ordinance,
1927, as amended, the following new item
numbered 18B shall be inserted:-
"18B. FIRE-FIGHTING APPARATUS,
including fire engines, fire hose and couplings,
fire extinguishers and refills therefore, admit-
ted as such by the Treasurer."
(b) Between items 35 and 36 of the Second
Schedule to the Customs Duties Ordinance,
1927, as amended, the following new item
numbered 35A shall be inserted :-

"35A. SURGICAL EQUIPMENT AND
SUPPLIES imported for use in medical cen-
tres approved as such by the Governor."

THE BOYS' BRIGADE


Resolution of the Legislative Council of Saint
Christopher Nevis and Anguilla made under
Section 14 of the Customs Duties Ordinance,
1927 (No. 6).
WHEREAS Section 14 of the Customs Duties
Ordinance, 1927, provides that the Legislative Coun-
cil may from time to time by Resolution increase,
reduce, abolish or otherwise alter the Customs Duties
leviable on any goods imported into the Presidency :
AND WHEREAS it is expedient to abolish Cus-
toms Duties leviable upon uniforms and equipment
when imported for use by the Boys' Brigade:-
BE IT RESOLVED by the Legislative Council
of Saint Christopher Nevis and Anguilla as follows:
"Customs duty leviable upon uniforms and equip-
ment imported for use by the Boys' Brigade shall
be abolished, subject to an undertaking in writing
being given, in each case, by the head of the religi-
ous denomination in control, that such articles are
imported for the use of the Boys' Brigade in that
capacity and for use for parade or patrol purposes."

The Cotton Protection (Amendment) Regu-
lations, 1956.

The Cotton Protection (Amendment) Regulations,
1956, made by the Governor in Council on
the 6th day of June 1956, under section 43 of
the Cotton Ordinance, 1946 (No. 2 of 1947).


1. SHORT TITLE. These Regulations may be cited
as the Cotton Protection (Amendment) Regulations, 1956,
and shall be read as one with the Cotton Protection Regu-
lations, 1947 (S. R. & 0. 1947, No. 7) hereinafter referred
to as the Principal Regulations.
2 AMENDMENT. The Proviso to Regulation 3 of the
Principal Regulations shall be deleted and the following
substituted therefore :-
"Provided that an extension of time may be grant-
ed by the Agricultural Superintendent with the ap-
proval of the Governor -
(a) In the event of a breakdown of machinery
in any ginnery; and
(b) When, on account of the large size of the
crop or of shortage of labour they are satis-
fied that such extension is necessary."
3. RESCISSION. The Cotton Protection (Amendment)
Regulations, 1952 (S. R. & 0. 1952, No. 18) are
hereby rescinded.

June 1956.

3rd July, 1956, made by the Governor in
Council under section 7 of the Sedition and
Undesirable Publications Act, 1938 (No. 11
of 1938)
1. CITATION. This Order may be cited as the
Prohibited Publications Order, 1956.
2 PROHIBITION OF IMPORTATION OF
UNDESIRABLE PUBLICATIONS. The importation
of the following publications, being publications the
importation of which the Governor in Council is satisfied
would be contrary to the public interest, is hereby pro.
hibited :-
(a) the publications set out in the First Schedule
to this Order ;
(b) the present issues of the publications set out
in the Second Schedule to this Order and any past or
future issues thereof.
