OFFICIAL GAZETTE, THURSDAY, APRIL 5TH, 1956.

Auditor's Report

mentioned in Certificate of 30th September, 1955.

It is observed that payment has not been made to the Treasurer of
interest on the advances received from him during the month of Decem-
ber. In accordance with section 10(2) of the Savings Bank Ordinance
such advances shall bear interest and it would seem that, if the normal
method of calculation is adopted, a sum of some $245 is due and that
the gain on the year's working is overshown and the excess of liabilities
and the Treasurer's account are undershown by this amount.
2. The total of the list of individual ledger balances exceeds the
Depositors account by $4,298.53. Part of this figure is accounted for
by the loss of $1,488.08 referred to in the footnote to the statement, part
by other accounts which have been over-drawn but not yet recovered
or written off, part by other discrepancies discovered and not yet settled
whilst the cause of the remaining difference has not yet been located.
The figures for Depositors and Excess of Liabilities will be affected by
some and may be affected by others of these discrepancies.
3. In order to endeavour to prevent further discrepancies occurring
ledger control accounts have recently been instituted.

(Sgd.) J. F. BOOTH,
Principal Auditor,
Leeward Islands.
