Christopher Nevis and Anguilla in the
Colony of the Leeward Islands.
A PROCLAMATION.

WHEREAS by section 27 of the Animals (Diseas-
es and Importation) Ordinance, 1953 (Saint Christo-
pher Nevis and Anguilla No. I of 1954) it is provided
that the said Ordinance shall come into operation on
such day as the Governor may appoint by proclama-
tion published in the Gazette:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, HUGH BURROWES,
Administrator of the Presidency of Saint Christopher
Nevis and Anguilla, do by this my proclamation de-
clare that the said Ordinance shall come into opera-
tion on the Ist day of April, 1955.
AND all Her Majesty's loving subjects in the
Presidency of Saint Christopher Nevis and Anguilla
and all others whom it may concern are required to
take due notice hereof and to give their ready
obedience accordingly.
Given at the Government House, Saint Christo-
pher, this 7th day of March, 1955, in the
fourth year of Her Majesty's reign.

WHEREAS by section 6 of the Fruit Trees (Des-
truction Prohibition) Ordinance, 1954 (Saint Christo-
pher'Nevis and Anguilla No. 13 of 1954) it is pro-
vided that the said Ordinance shall come into opera-
tion on such date as the Governor may appoint by
proclamation in the Gazette:
NOW, THEREFORE, I, HUGH BURROWES,
Administrator of the Presidency of Saint Christopher
Nevis and Anguilla, do by this my proclamation de-
clare that the said Ordinance shall come into opera-
tion on the Ist day of April, 1955.
AND all Her Majesty's loving subjects in the

Notice is hereby given that the Cen-
tral Housing and Planning Authority
have passed a resolution for the adop-
tion of a Scheme by the owners of
Farm Estate to be known as the Farm
Estate Development Scheme within
the Patish of St. Anne, Sandy Point.
The resolution and draft scheme
may be inspected at the Office of the
Central Housing and Planning
Authority during office hours.
Any representations or objections
thereto should be sent in writing to

1955, No. 4.


The Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations,
1955, made by the Governor in Council under Section 78
of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1949 (No. 20
of 1949).

1. SHORT TITLE. These Regulations may be cited as the
Vehicles and Road Traffic (Amendment) Regulations, 1955, and
shall be read as one with the Vehicles and Road Traffic
Regulations, 1950 (S. R. & 0. 1950, No. 5), as amended, hereinafter
called the Principal Regulations.
2. AMENDMENT OF REGULATION 19. Sub-regulation
(6) of Regulation 19 of the Principal Regulations is hereby
amended -

( i ) by the insertion of the words and comma "except as
provided in paragraph (b) of this sub-regulation," be-
tween the comma and the word "draw" in the second
line thereof;
(ii) by re-numbering the sub-regulation as "(6) (a)"; and
(iii) by the addition thereto of the following as paragraph
(b):-
"(b) He may park the motor vehicle on the east
side of Victoria Road facing south outside the
premises of the St. Kitts Lawn Tennis Club
with the left front wheel of the motor vehicle
as close as possible to the left side of the road
and the left rear wheel thereof not more than
six feet from the left side of the road."
3. INSERTION OF NEW REGULATIONS 35A AND
35B. The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by the in-
sertion immediately after regulation 35 of the following as regula-
tions 35A and 35B respectively :-
"35A. RESTRICTIONS ON TRAVELLING OF
MOTOR OMNIBUSES AND PASSENGER TRUCKS IN
THE TOWN OF BASSETERRE. (1) Except as provided in






sub-regulation (2) of this regulation, no motor omnibus or passen-
ger truck shall travel in any part of the town of Basseterre which
does not lie on one of the routes specified in Schedule 4A or on
such other route as may be prescribed by special permit granted
by the Traffic Commissioner in accordance with the provisions of
Regulation 35B.

(2) The restrictions imposed in sub-regulation (1) of this
regulation shall not apply -
(a) where a motor omnibus or passenger truck is driven in
the town of Basseterre for the purpose of having repairs
effected thereto or for the purpose of being refuelled,
garaged, or serviced but in any such case no person oth-
er than the driver or conductor of such motor omnibus or
passenger truck shall be carried thereon; or
(b) to a motor omnibus in respect of which a limited or an
exclusive concession has been granted under section 76
of the Vehicles and Road Traffic Ordinance, 1949, to
permit such motor omnibus to be operated in any part of
the town of Basseterre.

(3) Where any question arises as to whether a motor omni-
bus or passenger truck is driven in the town of Basseterre for any
of the purposes specified in sub-regulation (2) (a) of this regulation,
the burden of proving that such motor omnibus or passenger truck
is driven for that purpose shall lie on the driver.

35B. PERMITS FOR SPECIAL CHARTER TRIPS. (1) The
Traffic Commissioner may issue permits for motor omnibuses and
passenger trucks to travel in the town of Basseterre on routes other
than the scheduled routes when on special charter trips.

(2) The Traffic Commissioner shall state on every such
permit -
(a) the name of the owner of the motor omnibus or
passenger truck;
(b) the registration number of the motor omnibus or passen-
ger truck;
(c) the route on which the motor omnibus or passenger truck
is permitted to travel;
(d) the period during which the permit shall remain valid."

4. AMENDMENT OF REGULATION 38. Regulation 38
of the Principal Regulations is hereby amended by the addition of
the following as paragraphs (ix) to (xiii) of sub-regulation (1) of the
regulation:-
"(ix) On the East side of Adlam Street.
(x) On that portion of Fort Thomas Road which lies be-
tween Thibou Avenue and Market Street.






(xi) On that portion of Cayon Street which lies between
Westbourne Street and Market Street.
(xii) On Prickly Pear Alley.
(xiii) On the West side of Victoria Road outside the prem-
ises of the St. Kitts Lawn Tennis Club.

5. INSERTION OF NEW REGULATIONS 440 AND
44D. The Principal Regulations are hereby amended by the inser-
tion immediately after regulation 44B of the following as regula-
tions 440 and 44D respectively :-
"44C. RESTRICTION ON DRIVING IN ONE-WAY
STREETS. (1) No vehicle of any description shall be driv-
en on any road specified in the first column of Schedule 48
hereto (hereinafter called "one-way streets") in any other
direction than that specified in the second column of the
Schedule.
(2) Traffic signs may be placed on or near one-way
streets to indicate the direction in which vehicles should
travel thereon.

44D. LIMITS OF TOWNS AND VILLAGES. The
'Iraffic Commissioner may cause or permit signs to be
erected at suitable points to mark the limits of the towns
and villages in the Presidency."

6. INSERTION OF NEW SCHEDULES 4A and 4B. The
Principal Regulations are hereby amended by the insertion of the
following as Schedules 4A and 4B respectively:-
"SCHEDULE 4A
ROUTES FOR MOTOR OMNIBUSES AND PASSENGER
TRUCKS BASSETERRE

1. North-eastern route: Entering from the North-east, con-
tinuing along Wellington Road, Branch Street, Pond Road,
Sandown Road to Bay Road; returning along Bay Road,
Sandown Road, Pond Road and Johnson Street to Wel-
lington Road and thence continuing in a north-easterly
direction beyond the town limits.
2. Western route: Entering from the West, continuing
along Uayon Street, Cunningham Street and Fort Thomas
Road to Bay Road; returning along Bay Road, Fort
Thomas Road to Cunningham Street and along Cayon
Street and thence continuing in a westerly direction be-
yond the town limits.
3. Northern route: Entering from the North, continuing
along Victoria Road and Fort Street to Bay Road; return-
ing along Bay Road, Fort Street and Victoria Road and
thence continuing in a northerly direction beyond the
town limits.
