en-US 3 en-USVERO BEACH When you meet Joe en-US Miller, owner of A+ Auto Detailing in Vero en-US Beach, it is immediately clear that this busien-US -en-US ness is not just his job; it is his passion. en-US Nothing makes him happier than seeing the en-US look on a customers face after hes finished en-US with their car, motorcycle, truck, or boat.en-US Sometimes people bring their car or boat en-US to me to clean up before selling it, Mr. Millen-US -en-US er told Hometown News. Then, after they en-US see how good it looks when Im done, they en-US dont want to sell it anymore. That makes en-US me so happy.en-US A+ Auto Detailing won Hometown News en-US 2017 Readers Choice Best Car Wash and en-US Window Tinting, and Mr. Millers enthusien-US -en-US asm is a big reason why. Another reason is en-US that he recognizes how important your en-US vehicle is to you.en-US In todays world, your vehicle is often en-US your office. Treat it like an investment. Let en-US the professionals take care of your investen-US -en-US ment. Ive seen so much damage that people en-US cause to their own vehicles, such as using en-US Brillo pads to remove bugs. Dont do that. en-US Bring it to me. But if you have done someen-US -en-US thing like that and now its scratched, I can en-US fix it. Thats what I do, and I really know en-US what Im doing.en-US Joe Miller has been in the auto detailing en-US business for over 30 years, much of that time en-US in Vero Beach, where he has deep roots.en-US My family is from Vero Beach. My brothen-US -en-US er owned Discount Carpets. My mom owns en-US Daily Courier. My dad owns MJM Car en-US Wash. Were a working family in Vero en-US Beach. We came to Vero Beach in the 70s, en-US when I was 13 years old. I went to Jr. High en-US and High School here.en-US I used to dirt bike on the trails around en-US here, now its where I have my car wash. I en-US just knew this would be a prime location en-US once it got started. And it took a lot of work.en-US Mr. Miller opened at his current location en-US about four years ago. His shop offers a wide en-US variety of services, from a $10 car wash up en-US to $1,000. In addition to cars, A+ Auto en-US Detailing takes care of trucks, motorcycles, en-US boats, RVs, even planes and helicopters.en-US I specialize in motorcycles. I just did a en-US big 30 foot boat. Anything people use to get en-US around on land, water, or in the air, I can do. en-US I do mini-planes, helicopters. We can go to en-US Piper and clean your plane there. I have a en-US passion for this. Its not just a job to me.en-US One of Joes most popular services is odor en-US removal.en-US Got a car that smells like dogs or cats? en-US We can eliminate odors and help you keep en-US the odors out. We go deep into the vents and en-US make sure everything is deodorized. We en-US dont just clean what people see on the outen-US -en-US side. We go up in your vents, and deodorize en-US every part of your car.en-US For people who transport animals in en-US their car, when it comes time to sell that car, en-US sometimes they cant because of the odors. I en-US can get rid of those odors so you can sell en-US your car.en-US A+ Auto Detailing also provides services en-US like headlight restoration, window tinting, en-US and engine cleaning.en-US We go from front to back. I paint. Whaten-US -en-US ever you need. We do a lot of high speed en-US buffing to get out scratches. We know how en-US to buff right. When your car is done, you en-US wont see any burn marks, youll see shear en-US glass. In the hood of your car, youll see en-US reflections of birds in the sky.en-US They also have a dent guy who removes en-US small dents. They perform some services en-US that normally require a body shop.en-US If you run your hand along your car, it en-US will often feel scratchy, not smooth. Thats en-US from environmental factors, like things fallen-US -en-US ing from trees. Sometimes you can even feel en-US fuel residue.en-US I always use the best of the best products. en-US That is very important to me. I dont care en-US how much the products cost, I will always en-US use the best. I dont use cheap products, I en-US use top shelf. Its not just having the best en-US products, its also knowing how to use the en-US products.en-US I have such enthusiasm about seeing a en-US customer smile when they come to pick up en-US their car. I really care about how they view en-US the job Ive done. Thats how my business en-US got built. It can be a simple $10 car wash, but en-US were still going to do it right for you.en-US Mr. Miller cares about the $10 customer en-US just as much as he cares about the $500 cusen-US -en-US tomer. His passion is the same regardless of en-US the level of the job.en-US When I do a vehicle, I dont just put a en-US coat of wax on it. I get everything off, then en-US put six or seven coats of a hard shell wax, en-US and then two or three coats of filler wax. en-US Your paint has pores in it, like our skin.en-US Then I put a sealer on top of that. When en-US I get done with it, it looks better than when en-US you bought it from the showroom. After staying at one last en-US week, I have to say they are interesting. Did en-US you know that its preferable to put the bathen-US -en-US room light switches outside the bathroom in en-US the master bedroom? Just in case you need en-US to use the facilities in the middle of the en-US night, you also get to wake your spouse so en-US she knows where you are at all times. en-US Usually the hard water will cause the en-US shower-head to point in various directions, en-US unfortunately none of them downward in en-US your direction. They also make sure you en-US know about their amenities when you turn en-US on the TV. All their sets start on their chanen-US-en-US nel, which has a volume setting twice the en-US level of what the other channels need to en-US use. I learned to turn the volume down to en-US five before I shut off the set when I was done en-US watching sports, it needs to be at twenty five en-US to actually hear the announcers, otherwise if en-US my spouse turned it on in the morning she en-US would be blasted out of bed, not a pretty en-US sight, Ive learned from past experience. I en-US just want to share these couple tips if you en-US plan on staying at a local resort in the near en-US future. Gotta Love Floridaen-USCan you help me?en-USHELP: Can anyone tell me how to stop en-US the incessant phone calls from robo calls? en-US My phone rings all day long. Calls from all en-US over the country. I get at least 10 a day. Its en-US driving me crazy. Sometimes I dont pick up en-US and sometimes I just answer turn on then en-US off. It just dont stop. Is there any way to stop en-US these. I cant even block these numbers en-US because its always a different number and en-US from all over the country. I am on the No en-US Call registry, but that doesnt seem to do any en-US good.en-USHow do you stop all these en-US mailings looking for money?en-USI received 49 last month. They fill up the en-US wastebasket very quick. Now, I am getting en-US some from people I have never heard of. My en-US husband also gets the same mailings, so add en-US that up. We do give to several of these, but at en-US my choosing, not theirs. Again, they fill up en-US the garbage can very quickly. Any ideas how en-US to stop this? Thank you for your papers. en-US They are very good.en-US Are we having fun yet?en-USWe could have super slip and slides, with en-US fun rides, run by solar picnic pavilions, en-US along the way. And, we would raise the river en-US level by 1-inch per mile, per day just en-US enough to reverse net flows and help change en-US the waters in the problem areas, enabling en-US more life. Our tax money is there and the en-US multi-splendored benefits are possible at en-US low cost. The science is self-evident.en-USWe rely on the Postal Serviceen-USThere are still some of us elders out there en-US who do not have access to email, dont know en-US how to use email even if we had it.en-US So, our main sources of communication, en-US as well as the ability, and hopefully we will en-US have it, the Postal Service.en-US Thank you, and keep that in mind that en-US there are some people who are young and en-US elders, like myself, who do not know how to en-US do an email thing.en-USTurn signalsen-USOf course, everyone who has driven has en-US noticed the 50-60 percent of the inconsideren-US -en-US ate drivers in who are too lazy and uncaring en-US to use turn signals. They en-US will eventually get tired of paying postage en-US both ways for nothing.en-USWe need to slow downen-USMy wife and I just returned from a en-US month-long trip to Europe. Traveling across en-US Western Europe England, Portugal, Spain, en-US France, Italy we saw drivers who were not en-US only courteous, but knew the rules of the en-US road and obeyed them and traffic laws.en-US Almost without exception, I cannot drive en-US on a 55-mph road without being passed by en-US car after car doing at least 70-mph, or better. en-US My wife was almost killed nine years ago by en-US an aggressive driver whose speed was estien-US -en-US mated to have been 100-110 mph before he en-US rear-ended and totaled her car. He weaved en-US in behind her but couldnt pass because of a en-US dump truck in the other lane. People, slow en-US down obey speed limits and other traffic en-US laws before you injure or kill someone.en-US As a side note, our county and city comen-US -en-US missioners seem to want to raise taxes to en-US boost income. I have an idea: ENFORCE en-US TRAFFIC LAWS, and the fines will be more en-US than adequate for all the pet projects. en-USSo many choices

en-US 7 en-USVERO BEACH An issue that was en-US already a confusing battle over science and en-US statistics became even more confusing at an en-US April 12 meeting called by the Florida en-US Department of Environmental Protection.en-US The subject was Spoonbill Marsh, one of en-US three waste water treatment facilities en-US operated by Indian River County. A small en-US group of concerned citizens led by Carter en-US Taylor, the former president of the Indian en-US River Neighborhood Association, and Vero en-US Beach artist Barry Shapiro have for two en-US years been challenging the operation of the en-US facility and the methods used by the county en-US and the state to measure success.en-US The group of citizens and the state could en-US not even agree on the format of the meeting en-US that was meant to address concerns. Mr. en-US Taylor and Mr. Shapiro wanted a regular en-US public hearing, with one person speaking at en-US a time from a podium and state officials en-US responding for all to hear. Instead, the DEP en-US offered a more casual meeting in which state en-US and county officials were spread around a en-US room to engage in individual conversations, en-US with no opportunity for the assembled en-US crowd to follow along.en-US About 60 people attended the meeting at en-US the Indian River County Administration en-US Complex. For two hours, attendees moved en-US individually between three tables. At the en-US permitting table, DEP staff answered en-US questions regarding permitting rules and en-US the current draft permit. At a compliance en-US and enforcement table, DEP staff answered en-US questions regarding the latest Spoonbill en-US Marsh inspection report and other en-US compliance issues. At the Indian River en-US County table, utility district representatives en-US answered questions about their proposals.en-US Comments were submitted at the en-US dedicated comment table.en-US The result was that there was no en-US opportunity for one coherent conversation en-US in which all could listen and participate. en-US Instead, the time was filled with dozens of en-US individual conversations taking place at the en-US same time, with each participant repeating en-US his or her same points to different listeners, en-US many of whom could not even hear each en-US other over the roar.en-US To make matters more confusing, the en-US DEP written materials handed out at the en-US meeting had the wrong email address for en-US the public to submit comments. Some en-US attendees received an email the next day en-US with the proper address for comments, en-US along with a request from the DEP to en-US Please feel free to forward this email as en-US necessary.en-US As far as Im concerned, this format is en-US worthless, Mr. Shapiro told Hometown en-US News in frustration. en-US This so-called public meeting/open en-US house is a violation of our due process rights en-US as citizens, Mr. Taylor added. This meeting en-US format is cacophony. There is no en-US organization, no agenda, no governance. 2.50% APY 60 MONTHS Member FDIC www.OculinaBank.com Annual Percentage Yield rate is effective as of February 28, 2018 and subject to change without notice. The group is being organized and en-US trained now under the leadership of Senior en-US Planner Gayle Lafferty of the City of Vero en-US Beach Planning and Development Departen-US -en-US ment and volunteer Historic Preservationist en-US Anna Brady.en-US Historic resources provide character, en-US continuity and a sense of uniqueness to a en-US community, Ms. Brady told Hometown en-US News. The information gathered may help en-US inform the Citys Historic Preservation en-US Commission on future matters that may en-US come before that commission.en-US The citys current historic resource invenen-US-en-US tory is over 20 years old and out of date, en-US Ms. Brady said. The last comprehensive en-US inventory was completed in 1990 and only en-US documented buildings built prior to 1940. en-US As per the Citys Historic Preservation Ordien-US-en-US nance, the Historic Preservation Commisen-US-en-US sion has the responsibility to update the en-US inventory. Hiring a consultant to do this can en-US be very expensive since the work is very en-US labor intensive.en-US Participants will collect architectural and en-US historical data in the field, taking photos en-US with cameras or tablets. They will pilot a en-US new inventory system that uses modern en-US technology instead of the old clipboard and en-US paper process.en-US Some will assist with archival research on en-US original build dates, owners, and tax en-US records.en-US Those with good attention to detail and a en-US background or interest in historic preservaen-US -en-US tion, architecture, construction, history, or en-US urban design and planning are especially en-US encouraged to apply.en-US A historic resource inventory is a systemen-US-en-US atic method of documenting potential hisen-US -en-US toric resources through fieldwork and en-US research, Ms. Brady said. If I were standing at a podium, I would be en-US able to challenge them and receive responses en-US in plain view of the general public, and with en-US cameras to capture it for people who cant be en-US here.en-US Asked if he thought meeting organizers en-US were deliberately trying to prevent his side en-US from organizing and supporting each others en-US points, Mr. Taylor answered Yes, I do. We en-US never acquiesced to this format being en-US appropriate. In fact, we notified them that en-US we wanted a hearing. This violates our due en-US process. We believe that the law requires a en-US public hearing if we request one before en-US issuing the en-US permit, but we en-US got no reason for en-US the denial of the en-US public hearing en-US other than this is en-US the way we do en-US it.en-US County en-US Attorney Dylan en-US Reingold took a en-US different view of en-US the format. en-US Sometimes this en-US is actually a more en-US effective method en-US for asking en-US questions and en-US dialogue, Mr. en-US Reingold said.en-US Both Mr. en-US Shapiro and Mr. Carter took time to explain en-US their concerns about Spoonbill Marsh to en-US this reporter. Their points revolved around en-US the flow of water between the water en-US treatment facility and neighboring land en-US owned by the Indian River Land Trust.en-US They built this thing as a water treatment en-US facility, Mr. Shapiro said. It should have en-US complete containment. But it wasnt en-US designed for complete containment.en-US On the north side of Spoonbill is the en-US Indian River Land Trust property. That en-US property was one of the last large salt en-US marshes on the east coast of Florida.en-US I went out there on a dry day and the en-US berm separating the two pieces of property en-US was completely covered over. The water was en-US flowing right into the Land Trust property. en-US Trees were dying because of the change in en-US salinity changing the entire ecology of that en-US property, which was supposed to be en-US preserved the way it was.en-US Since our complaints, they have gone in en-US and raised the berm, so at this time there is en-US not free flow between the two. But how long en-US is that going to last? After Hurricane Irma en-US they spent $200,000 on repairs to fix the en-US berm. This thing was an experiment, and it en-US was a failed experiment. The county should en-US come up with a plan to move this treatment en-US facility.en-US The county counters that Spoonbill en-US Marsh is an environmental success.en-US The site has been transformed into a en-US wetland and wildlife habitat, reads an en-US Indian River County statement given to en-US Hometown News at the meeting. Although en-US Spoonbill Marsh is surrounded by urban en-US development and automobile traffic, it is an en-US oasis for wildlife. Nestled along the lagoon, en-US the ponds at Spoonbill Marsh have become en-US a safe haven for aquatic life. Migratory birds en-US make us of the mangrove canopy, along with en-US the native species such as herons, egrets and On Saturday, April 14, hundreds of people flocked to the en-USIndian River Fairgrounds for the Marine and Wildlife Art Festival and Craft Show.   Vendor s sold original art and crafts with a wildlife twist, en-USand marine enthusiasts shopped for boating supplies and lingered for en-US angler demonstrations. en-USMarshen-USFrom page 7en-US Seeen-US en-US MARSHen-US, page 13 Artist/activist en-USBarry Shapiro en-US wants the county en-US to improve or shut en-US down the Spoonen-US-en-US bill Marsh Water en-US Treatment Facility.

Full Obituary Online : www.LowtherFuneralHome.com (Veteran Merchant Marines and U.S. Army) Celebrate Earth en-USDay 2018en-USWen-USith all of the things that have en-US been evolving with our earth, en-US Earth Day is becoming more and en-US more of an important event in our society. en-US Earth day is a day we can look around and en-US see all the wonders that nature has en-US bestowed on us. It is also a great time to en-US think about how we can protect and en-US beautify our environment. This task can be en-US as simple as planting a single tree to en-US beautify our yard or possibly planting a en-US colorful garden for all to enjoy on your en-US property or even to donate your time to a en-US local garden club to help beautify an area of en-US your city or town. With the growing needs en-US of our fragile environment, now more then en-US ever, 2013 will be an important year to do en-US everything we can to both beautify and en-US balance our environment. en-US The idea of Earth Day was initiated in en-US 1962 as a way to get people aware of what is en-US going on in our environment. It started en-US with President Kennedy in 1963 when he en-US took a five-day conservation tour of our en-US nation. The first official Earth Day was on en-US April 22, 1970. Since then, Earth Day has en-US blossomed into a national celebration en-US where people initiate ideas that can help en-US make our environment more eye appealing en-US and a better place to live.en-US With all the hype on how we are en-US depleting our cypress forests by the use of en-US cypress mulch, there are many other en-US natural alternatives we can use that are both en-US functional and also will save our natural en-US resources. One thing we can use that we all en-US have plenty of is natural grass clippings. en-US Thats right; grass clippings can make an en-US excellent mulching material that you can en-US use on almost all your plants and flowers. en-US You do need to be sure, however, that your en-US turf has not been recently treated with any en-US herbicides. The herbicides may damage en-US some of your tender plants. Place the en-US clippings around your plants in layers. en-US Make each of your layers thin and do not en-US make it too thick, as the mulch will produce en-US a smell. Apply the next thin en-US layer after the initial layer has en-US been allowed to dry out. As the en-US clippings decompose, they will en-US produce a fertilizing effect on en-US your plants. The clippings tend en-US to add nutrients back to the soil en-US as they decay and work their en-US way into the dirt. Remember, en-US every time you buy a bag of en-US mulch, trees had to be cut en-US down to produce it!en-US Another great natural en-US mulching material is pine en-US needles. This material is not en-US suitable for all plants, but is en-US great for the majority of plants en-US we use in this part of Florida. en-US You can use pine clippings on en-US any plants that are acid loving. en-US This list can include ixoria, hibiscus, en-US bottlebrush, azalea, gardenia, junipers, and en-US banana trees along with many other plants en-US that require a high acid content in the soil. en-US Not only do many of these natural remedies en-US save resources, they also save you money. en-US Doing large areas of your yard with en-US commercial products can cost a fortune. en-US With the money you save on mulching en-US materials, you will be able to purchase lots en-US more colorful flowers!en-US Many of your favorite plants that you en-US have in your yard can be easily propagated en-US into new plants without the need to keep en-US buying new plants. Roses are a great en-US example of this. In the spring, you can en-US choose cuttings that are healthy and green en-US and they will make good candidates for en-US cuttings. Using a sharp knife cut off the soft en-US tip of the cane and then cut it into 4to en-US 5-inch pieces. Each piece should have at en-US least two nodes and some leaves. Strip off en-US the bottom leaves to expose a node, and en-US then plant the cutting in moist soil and en-US keep it in bright shade and high humidity. en-US You can use containers covered with plastic en-US bags, or set them in the ground in the shade en-US and cover them with plastic jugs. Either en-US method should work fine. Take several en-US cuttings to be sure you have success with at en-US least several. You are now on your way to en-US propagating your own Rose garden!en-US Remember, earth day is April 22, 2018.en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape.
