en-US 3 en-USSEBASTIAN 20 Past 4 in Sebastian was en-US already a repeat winner of Hometown News en-US readers Best Vape Shop award when owner en-US Doug Newman decided to expand his offeren-US -en-US ings last summer.en-US I had so many people asking for CBD en-US and glass, and wraps, Mr. Newman told en-US Hometown News. I was happy as a vape en-US shop, but my customers want all these other en-US things.en-US CBD (Cannabidiol) is a major constituent en-US of cannabis and hemp plants. CBD from the en-US hemp plant is a non-psychoactive comen-US -en-US pound, so it does not get the user high.en-US While purchasing CBD oil derived from en-US cannabis requires a medical marijuana card, en-US CBD oil derived from hemp is legal because en-US hemp products contain very little or no en-US THC, the psychoactive component.en-US CBD is amazing, Mr. Newman said. en-US CBD from hemp doesnt get you high, but en-US you get the other benefits.en-US While readers should do their own en-US research concerning the benefits and effects en-US of CBD, many people insist that it helps en-US greatly with the management of pain, anxien-US-en-US ety, depression, and other conditions.en-US 20 Past 4 sells Blue Moon Hemp CBD, en-US considered among the highest grade, with a en-US high CBD mg content and an advanced proen-US -en-US duction process that aims to optimize purien-US -en-US ty.en-US While there is no certification or designaen-US -en-US tion for organically-grown hemp, Blue en-US Moon Hemp promises that the farming en-US methods used to produce its CBD are en-US eco-friendly, utilizing no insecticides or en-US herbicides, with all product additives being en-US plant-based, organic, and non-GMO when en-US available.en-US When it comes to vaping supplies and en-US smoking accessories, 20 Past 4 also keeps en-US the focus on high-quality.en-US I sell a lot of e-liquid, Mr. Newman said. en-US My thing is that I have really good e-liqen-US-en-US uid. en-US Giant Vapes is the distributor 20 Past 4 en-US gets its e-liquid from. They only sell the en-US best of the best, and I only sell the best of en-US what they offer, all top shelf. In addition to en-US the CBD, my e-liquid is what draws a lot of en-US people here.en-US 20 Past 4 also features a wide selection of en-US glass water pipes, starting around $25, up to en-US about $300 for some true pieces of art.en-US I have the best prices on glass around, en-US said Mr. Newman. To support other local en-US businesses, he stocks a large selection of en-US pipes from Head Nectar, a glass pipe manuen-US-en-US facturer based in Melbourne. The store also en-US features the sturdy TAG water pipes.en-US I pride myself on good glass prices for en-US local, US-produced and imports. Glass en-US should be affordable. Eventually Id like to en-US have somebody here blowing glass.en-US For those who tend to drop and break en-US glass, or worry that they will, 20 Past 4 en-US stocks a large number of silicone pipes that en-US feel like rubber.en-US These are heat-resistant silicone pipes, en-US Mr. Newman said. They are easy to clean en-US simply put in freezer. Once frozen, crack it en-US and tap all the stuff out. When frozen none en-US of the junk sticks to the silicone. Its a better en-US way to clean. And they come with built-in en-US glass or metal screens, so you dont even en-US need to buy screens anymore.en-US 20 Past 4 also offers rolling papers, grinden-US -en-US ers, inexpensive pipes, and natural hemp en-US CBD wraps.en-US Looking at the 20 Past 4 Facebook page, en-US all reviews as of this writing are five star, en-US with customers noting how knowledgeable en-US Doug is about all his products, good prices, en-US and excellent customer service. Reviewers en-US correctly note that the store is super clean.en-US All Google reviews for the store are also en-US five star, with visitors consistently mentionen-US -en-US ing Doug Newmans friendly customer seren-US -en-US vice and product knowledge, as well as the en-US stores wide variety of e-liquid flavors.en-US 20 Past 4 is open Mon.-Fri., 11 a.m.-7 en-US p.m., and Sat. 11 a.m.-5 p.m. Closed Sunen-US-en-US days. en-US 4 en-USSEBASTIAN April 5 is Gold Star Wives en-US Day, also known in recent years as Gold Star en-US Spouses Day. It is a day to honor the spouses en-US of those killed in action.en-US This year, the Children of Fallen Patriots en-US Foundation has chosen to honor Sebastian en-US resident Laura Youngblood.en-US According to the CFPF, based in Reston, en-US Virginia, 97 percent of those killed in action en-US are men, so that organization continues to en-US use the name Gold Star Wives Day. The en-US Department of the Army now observes en-US Gold Star Spouses Day.en-US To those helped, like Sebastians Laura en-US Youngblood, the name of the event doesnt en-US matter. What matters is that groups like the en-US CFPF are helping send her children to colen-US-en-US lege.en-US All Travis and I ever wanted is for our en-US kids to have a better life and an easier life en-US than we had, Ms. Youngblood told Homeen-US -en-US town News. Like every parent does.en-US Laura met her husband Travis in the milien-US -en-US tary, where both were combat medics. They en-US got married in the service. After five years of en-US active duty, Laura and Travis decided that en-US Laura should stay at home with their three en-US year old son, Hunter.en-US But Laura got recalled in 2005, for active en-US duty in the Al Anbar Province of Iraq. en-US Unknown to her, Travis volunteered to take en-US her place.en-US They sent a letter to where we were staen-US -en-US tioned, and Travis got the mail and opened en-US it. Without even telling me, he went and volen-US -en-US unteered to take my place so I could stay en-US home with our son.en-US He didnt tell me about my orders to go en-US to the reserve meeting for recall until after en-US he signed up. After he made sure he was en-US good to go instead, then he told me about en-US it.en-US When asked if she was angry with Travis en-US for taking the decision out of her hands, Ms. en-US Youngblood replied Travis would always en-US do anything that he could to protect me and en-US our kid. We always tried to do what was best en-US for the long term. What we did was always en-US for the benefit of our kid. He didnt want en-US Hunter to be without me for that long. So I en-US understood.en-US During that deployment, Travis unit was en-US hit by an IED. He died six days later, leaving en-US Laura, who was eight months pregnant with en-US their second child, and Hunter.en-US We got pregnant the day he left, Ms. en-US Youngblood said. He knew that one day we en-US would go back to normal lives. And his noren-US -en-US mal life was his wife and kids.en-US In his last letter home, one of the lines he en-US wrote was any day that Im here can be the en-US day that I die, and Im willing to sacrifice my en-US life to protect my brother in arms.en-US Travis was supposed to come home in en-US about a month and a half when he died at en-US age 26. Laura, also 26, was about eight en-US months pregnant. Hunter was four.en-US I never thought Id be a widow at 26, Ms. en-US Youngblood said.en-US After Travis died, Laura realized there en-US was no way she could send her children to en-US college, as she and Travis dreamed. Thats en-US where nonprofit organizations like Fallen en-US Patriots common in. The groups primary en-US mission is to provide college scholarships to en-US military children who have lost a parent in en-US the line of duty. The goal is to make sure en-US every child of a fallen parent receives all en-US necessary college funding.en-US You would think that the benefits you en-US get for serving your country and dying for en-US your country are great, but theyre not, Ms. en-US Youngblood said. We had to fight just to en-US have dental for the kids. Everything that the en-US children get, weve always had to fight for. Our collecen-US -en-US tive voices are being heard across the state of en-US Florida #enough, #not1more, #never againen-US No parent should ever be afraid to send en-US their kids to school or a movie theater, a en-US church, etc.en-US This is a giant leap for students but weve en-US got miles yet to go.en-USBeware of en-US scam artistsen-USWith a large population of Septuagenarien-US -en-US ans and Octogenarians, come the scam arten-US -en-US ist. Quite a few of us get a good news call en-US from older family members, that they found en-US a way to be useful and make easy money. Its en-US funny because they found out about it in en-US their Spam Folder. They will get paid to be en-US Secret Shoppers and make about $400, just en-US to shop. Then for some strange reason, they en-US all know a person who has made money en-US doing it. The need to make extra cash and en-US feel useful, clouds their judgment, a check en-US for three grand shows up with their name en-US on it and off to the bank they go. On the en-US good news side is theyll quickly share their en-US good fortune news with family. Now its up en-US to us to real them back in and burst their en-US bubble, so they dont lose six grand of their en-US savings, or worse share with friends and en-US start them on the same disruptive path. If en-US you love them burst the bubble as gently as en-US you can and get them to the police for sound en-US advice. They really cant afford to be en-US scammed, which is why it works so easily. en-US Banks will generally waive fees if you go en-US before the bank find out the check is fake. en-US Also warn them about things in the Spam en-US Folder, its there to protect them, Love Florien-US-en-US da but Be Careful!en-USAn opinion on biblical truthsen-USPeople want to believe in a loving God en-US who saves all. Many are taught to say a sinen-US -en-US ners prayer and you are saved, it doesnt en-US matter if you do any bad thing, even willful en-US sinning, and you dont need to do any good en-US thing. This concept is not biblical and wasnt en-US taught until the 1900s. Once saved always en-US saved is a false premise. Preaching a strict en-US message of hard biblical truth is now rare en-US even though the Bible starts and ends with en-US the wrath of God. See Noah in Genesis and en-US read Revelation. Although 75% of people en-US believe it Hell only 4% think they have any en-US chance to go there. Many preachers never en-US mention Hell and avoid the subject at all en-US costs. The feel good sermons of megachurch en-US pastors only say happy thoughts. One says I en-US want to build people up, not tear them en-US down. False self esteem is not a good policy, en-US God does not pass out participation troen-US-en-US phies. Being almost saved is tragic. To be en-US saved we must Believe Jn 3 16, Repent Mt 4 en-US 17, and Forgive Mt 6 12to15, Mt 18 23to35. en-US We must strive to enter the narrow gate to en-US Heaven, only a few ever find it Mt 7 en-US 13and14, Lk 13 23to 30. Billy Graham said en-US 85% of people you see in church you will not en-US see in heaven. 70 % of youth leave church en-US when they leave their parents home. Many en-US are called but few are chosen. Do it right, en-US there is no second chance.en-USA thanks to Hospiceen-USMy husband was terminal. I chose to en-US have Hospice care for him at home. Well, en-US these people are just wonderful. Every one en-US of them. They were so caring. You could en-US tell that they loved their jobs. They also care en-US deeply for the caregiver and offer assistance. Approximately 350 en-USresidents from across the en-US Treasure Coast came to en-US Sebastian's Riverview en-US Park on Saturday, March en-US 24 to participate in one en-US of 800 national 'March en-US For Our Lives' protests. en-US The marches stemmed en-US from the Feb. 14 school en-US shooting at Marjory en-US Stoneman Douglas High en-US School in Parkland, that en-US killed 17 and left many en-US more injured. en-USPhotos courtesy of Megan Hootsen-USToward the end, they gave him round-the-en-US clock care, sitting by his bedside. It brings en-US tears to my eyes just remembering what en-US wonderful care they gave him. Thank you en-US Hospice. I know there is a spot in Heaven en-US waiting for you. God Bless You. en-USAnother opinion on gun controlen-USWhen fighting a fire you cant put it out en-US by shooting water on the flame. You must en-US shoot the water at the base of the fire. Guns en-US are the flame not the cause. en-US Government has removed God and our en-US flag from the class rooms. Stop and think en-US when this all started. Now the schools teach en-US Islam but do not allow Christianity be menen-US -en-US tioned. I saw a young girl with a T shirt en-US that was printed with the following: Dear en-US God, Why do you allow so much violence in en-US our schools? Signed a concerned student. en-US The answer from God: Dear concerned stuen-US -en-US dent, Im not allowed in schools.en-US Second, it is almost impossible to find a en-US TV show that is not violent. The news is all en-US about who got killed last night. Video games en-US are all about killing things and people. Our en-US kids are taught violence from birth.en-US Parents of the last two generations have en-US let their kids rule the home and the governen-US-en-US ment has prevented the parents from en-US switching them when they misbehave. Staten-US -en-US ing that it might affect them mentally. Well en-US it has. In a negative way. My generation was en-US switched and spanked when we misbehaved en-US and we never went around shooting people en-US and we loved one another.en-US It should be known that of all the assassien-US-en-US nations and mass shootings since the assasen-US -en-US sination of President Lincoln until today en-US that not one was committed by a member of en-US the NRA. Contrary to the belief of many en-US people the NRA is your protector not your en-US enemy.en-US There are 350,000,000 guns in the U.S., en-US millions unregistered. Criminals can get all en-US they want regardless of the law. There is en-US already a law. It is unlawful to commit muren-US -en-US der. Has that stopped them? en-USPeaceful protest

Customers in the en-US Sebastian store can scan items as they put en-US them in their basket, pay by phone, and skip en-US the checkout line.en-US Scan & Go was installed in the Sebastian en-US store in early March. It has not yet been en-US announced if the Vero Beach store will also en-US use the system.en-US Scan & Go is created to give time back to en-US our customers, Sebastian Store Manager en-US Bill Bales told Hometown News. Just how en-US much time saved depends on a variety of en-US factors, including the size of the basket and en-US the traffic in the store. We continue to test en-US and improve this technology based on feeden-US -en-US back from our associates and customers.en-US To use the system, customers download en-US the Scan & Go app on a mobile phone and en-US open the app inside Walmart, or use devices en-US available in store. Scan the barcode of each en-US item and then place the item into the shopen-US -en-US ping cart. en-US As you shop, you see the running total of en-US the items in your cart. You checkout and pay en-US in the app, then show the receipt on your en-US phone to an associate on the way out. They en-US compare the items in the cart to the receipt en-US to make sure everything was scanned.en-US We know saving time and money are top en-US of mind for all our customers, so were conen-US -en-US tinuing to look for ways to create a quick en-US and convenient shopping experience, said en-US Mr. Bales. The initial feedback has been en-US great from customers who have started to en-US use Scan & Go. Its really transformed the en-US way they shop with us. Our goal is to proen-US -en-US vide customers with a variety of options so en-US they can checkout however they prefer, and en-US Scan & Go is just one of those options.en-US Mr. Bales would not say whether sales figen-US -en-US ures have changed since installing the sysen-US -en-US tem. Because we are a publicly-traded comen-US-en-US pany, we only release sales figures as part of en-US our quarterly earnings, he said. Mr. Bales en-US also would not say whether there has been en-US any difference in theft in the store since the en-US system was installed, saying simply we have en-US several systems in place throughout the en-US store to deter shoplifting.en-US Walmart has not said whether stores en-US using the system will see a reduction in en-US employment. Walmart employs about 2.3 en-US million people worldwide at 11,600 stores in en-US 28 countries.en-US The only Treasure Coast Walmart testing en-US the new system is at 2001 U.S. Hwy. 1, en-US Sebastian.en-USWalmart testing new payment system in Sebastianen-USBy Mike Winikoffen-USmwinikoff@hometownnewsol.com Photo courtesy of Walmart en-USThe new Scan & Go system being en-US tested at the Sebastian Walmart en-US lets customers pay from a phone en-US app and skip the checkout line.en-USCalendaren-USFrom page 7 en-USSeeen-US en-US CALENDARen-US, page 13

The pros and cons of using a laptop en-USOen-USne of the features that make laptop en-US computers so appealing is the fact en-US that they are portable. With a laptop en-US you are free to roam where you want to. en-US A laptop with a wireless internet en-US connection gives you the ability to work in en-US any room in the house and even beyond. en-US With a laptop you have the freedom to leave en-US your home (or office) entirely and still have en-US the full blown computer power that you en-US would expect to have with a desktop en-US machine. And with free wireless hot spots en-US popping up all over the place the possibilien-US -en-US ties are endless you can get the same en-US amount of work done that you would en-US expect to get done if you were confined to a en-US desk all day from places like coffee shops, en-US airports, the lobby of a fine hotel or even (if en-US you live in a gated community) down at the en-US clubhouse by the pool! en-US But (as is true with all good things) there en-US are a few gotchas that you have to be en-US aware of if you decide to take your machine en-US out on the road. en-US One issue that causes a fair amount of en-US confusion for the budding road warrior is en-US the inability to send email from on the en-US road. Receiving mail is usually not a en-US problem but the inability to send mail when en-US you are on a connection other than your en-US home network is a complaint that I used to en-US hear quite a bit. en-US Now, not everyone has this problem. en-US There are plenty of people out there who en-US are able to use their laptops wherever they en-US want and sending isnt a problem but there en-US are others who (try as they might) cant en-US send an email when away from home to en-US save their life. The answer usually lies in en-US what email service their system is set up to en-US use when the mail fails to send versus the en-US email services that works no matter where en-US they are. en-US Confused? Lets back track a bit and talk en-US about the typical home internet service and en-US whats included. When you sign up for en-US internet service for your home one of the en-US things that you get with that service is an en-US email address. Your Internet Service en-US Provider (ISP) gives you access to the en-US internet from home and sets up a username en-US which typically becomes your email en-US address. Then your email program en-US (Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Outlook en-US Express, etc.) gets set up with your useren-US -en-US name, password, POP and SMTP en-US settings. Now the POP settings (POP=Post en-US Office Protocol) are the settings that tell en-US your email program from where on the en-US internet your incoming mail can be en-US retrieved and the SMTP settings (SMTP=en-US -en-US Simple Mail Transfer Protocol) tells your en-US mail program where on the internet your en-US outgoing mail needs to go when you click en-US the Send button. The problem sending en-US mail usually lies with the SMTP settings. en-US You see, Internet Service Providers take en-US SPAM (junk email) very seriously and in an en-US effort to try to thwart SPAM, some en-US providers will prohibit relaying outgoing en-US mail through their SMTP servers. What this en-US means is that when an outgoing mail en-US message is being sent from within their en-US network, it goes along without a hitch. But en-US when you try to use your machine in a en-US network that is different than the network en-US you use at home (maybe your home en-US network is AT&T and the coffee shop you en-US are trying to send email from is Comcast en-US for example) then the SMTP server rejects en-US the outgoing mail because its not originaten-US -en-US ing from within its network but from some en-US other network. The message gets blocked as en-US part of the service providers efforts to en-US thwart SPAM. en-US So what do you do? And why is it some en-US people have no problem sending mail and en-US others cant? en-US Well, many ISPs have a different SMTP en-US address for people when they are on the en-US road but one of the easiest ways to work en-US around this issue is to set up a free web en-US based email service like Gmail so it doesnt en-US matter where you are when you try to send en-US email. With an email services like Gmail en-US you can set up your SMTP settings in your en-US email program to point to Gmails server en-US and bypass your ISPs SMTP settings en-US altogether. Its a simple fix and using a web en-US based email service also lets you keep using en-US the same email address even if you move or en-US change internet service providers. But thats en-US a whole other issue altogether.en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. He can be en-US reached at 888-752-9049 or en-US help@Compuen-US -en-US teThisOnline.com en-US (no hyphens). en-US 14 en-USIen-USf you go to your favorite garden center, en-US you will see a massive variety of mulches en-US and groundcovers. Modern mulch proden-US -en-US ucts can come in a variety of colors en-US including red, brown and even black. Many en-US of these mulch products are made from en-US trees that are rapidly being cut down faster en-US then they can be replanted. There are, en-US however, other options that you can use for en-US groundcovers that are both attractive and en-US also will maintain a natural look in your en-US landscape environment.en-US Mulching is primarily done for two en-US reasons. One is for appearance and the en-US other is to maintain good soil health. The en-US latter is the most important reason to en-US mulch your yard. If you look around your en-US environment, you can find many natural en-US and virtually free resources you can use for en-US mulching around your favorite flowerbed. en-US You can use pine needles, pine bark, peanut en-US shells, straw or hay or even crushed rock. If en-US you live on a wooded lot or have lots of en-US trees on your property, you can purchase a en-US chipper and turn your trimmings into a en-US useful groundcover. Many construction en-US areas use chippers to turn the cleared trees en-US into a mulch piles that you can pick up for en-US free. In short, use your imagination. Any en-US natural organic material can potentially be en-US recycled and used as mulch.en-US Many people mulch their yards solely for en-US appearance but the reasons for mulching go en-US much deeper then that. Mulch can dramatien-US -en-US cally lessen the impact of high soil temperaen-US -en-US tures on your plants. A two-inch layer of en-US organic mulch can lower the temperature of en-US the soil by 30 degrees or more. It also helps en-US the soil to maintain more even moisture en-US content by preventing water evaporation. en-US Mulch also helps to shade out weeds from en-US your garden. By keeping at least a 2-inch en-US covering of mulch in your garden, weeds en-US cannot receive enough light to grow and the en-US few that do survive can be easily taken out. en-US Here is a great tip you can use before en-US laying down your mulch. Prepare the area en-US first by laying down a layer of wet newspaen-US -en-US pers. This not only gives you a good base en-US for laying your mulch but it will also give en-US you an extra barrier of weed protection. It en-US also helps do the double duty of recycling en-US your old newspapers. Best of all, it costs en-US next to nothing to do! The paper will en-US decompose in the soil and will also allow en-US water to pass through easily.en-US Another great way to save money and en-US reuse natural resources is to build a en-US compost pile. You can do this by either en-US using a compost bin or you can build the en-US pile right on the ground. It would be wise to en-US locate your compost pile as far from your en-US home as possible so the bugs that help en-US decompose your organic materials do not en-US get into your en-US structure. Using a en-US compost bin can have en-US the advantage of en-US keeping critters out of en-US your pile and also en-US helps to maintain en-US moisture and keeps en-US the compost from en-US blowing around your en-US yard. en-US There are basically en-US two ways you can en-US build your compost en-US pile. If you want the en-US process to be as fast as en-US possible, you will en-US need to follow a few en-US extra steps. You en-US should first wet the en-US area under the en-US compost pile and also en-US put some twigs on the en-US bottom of the pile. You will then want to en-US alternate materials. You need alternating en-US layers of nitrogen, which would be grass en-US clippings, and you also need carbons, which en-US would include leaves, hay and dried straw. en-US As you layer your compost pile always en-US moisten the pile with some water. en-US If you dont have the patience to do this en-US layering process, you can also just add any en-US organic materials such as leaves, grass or en-US dried hay into your pile at your own en-US convenience and add water to keep the pile en-US moist. Keep in mind that doing it this way en-US will result in a slower decomposing process. en-US When the compost is ready, the end en-US material will look almost like humus or en-US good grade topsoil. The entire process can en-US take anywhere from a few months to over a en-US year depending on which method you en-US choose to use. The finished product can en-US then be used on your plants or lawn in en-US place of chemical based fertilizers. en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape. Most surviving spouses make en-US less than $50,000 per year, which often en-US means advanced education for the children en-US is impossible.en-US Even with benefits and other scholaren-US -en-US ships, the average gap per child is approxien-US-en-US mately $32,000 for four years of college, the en-US CFPF says. Eventually these children will en-US need more than $500 million combined for en-US college. The CFPF has granted over $20 en-US million in scholarships.en-US Travis and I often talked about how we en-US wanted our children to go to college and en-US have every opportunity that a quality educaen-US -en-US tion could provide them, Ms. Youngblood en-US said. I cant explain what a relief it is for our en-US entire family to know that Fallen Patriots is en-US willing to help us achieve this dream.en-US The Children of Fallen Patriots Foundaen-US -en-US tion is located at 1818 Library Street, Suite en-US 500, Reston, VA 20190.en-US For more information, visit en-US www.fallenpaen-US-en-US triots.org en-US oren-US www.facebook.com/FallenPaen-US-en-US triots, en-US or call (866) 917-CFPF (2373). I can hardly en-US wait to start cooking! en-US Unfortunately, for years many consumers en-US would buy imported lamb from New en-US Zealand and Australia, overcook it, and en-US then serve it with mint jelly to mask the en-US taste. The flavor would be overpowering en-US and the texture dry and chewy. en-US Lamb raised in the United States is en-US grain-fed, giving the lamb a beefier flavor en-US unlike the imported lamb that was grass-en-US fed, which caused a more intense flavor. en-US Todays lamb from New Zealand and en-US Australia is grain-fed and has developed a en-US more delicate taste. I still prefer the en-US domestic lamb, but I will use the imported en-US in a pinch with no problem.en-US Chefs are better trained in the cooking of en-US lamb today, and it is seen more often on en-US restaurant menus as well as lamb shanks, en-US my second all-time favorite meat. Lamb is en-US very healthy to eat. It is a great source of en-US protein, essential vitamins and minerals. It en-US has the correct ratio of all eight of the en-US essential amino acids.en-US The meat has less marbling than other en-US meats, which means most of the fat is on en-US the outside edges. A 3-ounce portion of en-US lamb leg has 74 mg of cholesterol compared en-US to 70 mg in a skinless chicken breast. en-US Calorie-wise, there are 162 in lamb to 159 en-US in chicken. en-US Now here is what you all have been en-US waiting for, my personal all-time favorite en-US recipe for Roasted Spring Lamb a la Costa.en-USROASTED LEG OF LAMBen-USIngredientsen-US 1 5-6 pound bone-in leg of lamben-US 1/4-cup olive oilen-US 2 tablespoons chopped fresh garlic cloves en-US (about 6 cloves)en-US 1/3-cup balsamic vinegaren-US 1/4-cup fresh squeezed lemon juiceen-US 1 teaspoon salten-US 1 teaspoon black pepperen-US 2 tablespoons leaf oreganoen-US 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, choppeden-US Directionsen-US In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients en-US together except the lamb.en-US Make 8 or 9 small slices all over the lamb. en-US Insert the mixture in the slices and rub the en-US entire lamb with the remaining mixture.en-US Place in a roasting pan, fat side down. en-US Add 1/2-cup water and 1/2-cup red wine. en-US Roast at 375 degrees for 45 minutes to an en-US hour or until a meat thermometer reads 135 en-US degrees.en-US Costa Magoulas is dean of the Mori en-US Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary en-US Management at Daytona State College. en-US Contact him at (386) 506-3578 or en-US magoulc@en-US daytonastate.edu. Knowledgeable Sta. CRAB E BILLS SEAFOOD MARKET ST LUCIE COUNTY For natives and en-USnewbies who dont know much about the en-US Treasure Coasts deep historical roots, Old en-US Florida Folk Fest 2018 might be just the en-US ticket.en-US The inaugural Old Florida Folk Fest will en-US be on April 7 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., and en-US as always music will play a major role in en-US the event, which is hosted by Summer Crush en-US Winery. There will be three premier Old en-US Florida music acts, including Gainesvilles en-US own Cracker the Box, Don Blitch. Also in en-US attendance will be The Cracker Cowman, en-US Frank Thomas, from Polk County, and Blast en-US of Grass from Maxville.en-US For me, it met two main criteria: I like to en-US have different events at the winery that are en-US not done in the area and are unique to the en-US area and I like to do events that are personal en-US to me, said Summer Crush owner Gary en-US Roberts. Ive been here since 1969 and was en-US involved with the St. Lucie County Historien-US -en-US cal Society, and while not a lot of people en-US know it back in the 1980s I went around and en-US interviewed a lot of the old-timers like en-US (A.E.) Beannie Backus and Judge Adams en-US and several people like that.en-US There will be a special Old Florida cow en-US camp display, which will be presented by en-US cowman Buddy Mills of Okeechobee and en-US cracker cowboy poetry by Sean Sexton, Will en-US Barker and Charlie Sembler, to go along en-US with displays by the Indian River Historical en-US Society and the St Lucie County Farm en-US Bureau Young Farmer and Ranchers, who en-US will be the main beneficiaries of Folk Fest. en-US I interviewed Buddys dad, Junior Mills, en-US who is an iconic cracker cowboy, and this is en-US a full-circle for me, Mr. Roberts said. I love en-US old Florida history and I think its important en-US to save it and share it and thats what were en-US going to try and do.en-US And there is a third component: to have en-US fun doing it.en-US Each act will be performing twice. Mr. en-US Blitch will be opening the festivities at 11 en-US a.m. and closing the day at 4:15 p.m. Mr. en-US Blitch plays Folk and Old Time Festivals all en-US over the state and region and is known for en-US songs derived from his experiences from en-US being raised in an Old Florida family, and he en-US plays several instruments at one time. en-US Mr. Thomas plays at 11:45 a.m. and 2 en-US p.m. and is such a living Old Florida legend en-US that the Frank Thomas Folk Music and Heren-US -en-US itage Festival at the site of the Dade Battleen-US -en-US field Park in Bushnell is named in his en-US honor. He continues the rich tradition of en-US passing on Florida history through storyen-US -en-US telling in song and still resides at his home, en-US known as The Cracker Palace, in rural en-US Polk County.en-US Bluegrass lovers will be treated to Blast of en-US Grass, who will be performing at noon and en-US 2:45 p.m. The band was formed in 1999 and en-US were the Florida State Instrumental Chamen-US -en-US pions with guitarist, Justin Lanier being en-US named the Florida State Flat Picking en-US Champion in 2006. Keith Bass of en-US Okeechobee has several banjo championen-US -en-US ships under his belt in the State of Florida en-US and in North Carolina. He is also known for en-US promoting the Yee Haw Junction Bluegrass en-US Festival for six years and the Bluegrass Famen-US -en-US ily Gathering for seven.en-US The Old Florida Cow Camp was the of en-US the 2015 Florida Folk Heritage Award, and en-US Mr. Mills learned to make traditional bucken-US -en-US skin cow-whips from his father, the well-en-US known Florida Cracker cowboy George en-US Junior Mills. Junior taught Buddy how to en-US make high-quality whips from deer skin, en-US and Buddy was a top rodeo competitor who en-US was awarded a rodeo scholarship. en-US Cracker Cowboy poetry will be read from en-US 2 to 3 p.m. and in addition the IRC Historien-US -en-US cal Society will also be on hand sharing local en-US history with attendees. For more informaen-US-en-US tion about that organization, please visit en-US www.irchistorical.org en-US Naturally, Old Florida food fare items will en-US be on the menu, which include gator, frog en-US legs catfish, cooter (turtle), wild hog, corn en-US on the cob, collards and of course swamp en-US cabbage and plenty more. Food is not en-US included in the ticket price. Also, Summer en-US Crush will have its hand-crafted, en-US award-winning Old Florida Muscadine en-US wines, as well as other popular beverages en-US like wine slushies, sangria, mocktails and en-US more than 25 local microbrew and select en-US beers and ciders. en-US Advance general admission tickets are en-US $11 through April 6, and at the gate for $12. en-US We want to pay tribute to the birth of en-US Florida old Florida and real Florida from en-US the music to the food to the people who en-US were cowboys and ran cattle before Florida en-US became as developed as it is, said Allen en-US Cooley, the tasting room manager at Sumen-US -en-US mer Crush.en-US Tickets for the event are available at en-US https://www.summercrushwine.com/. en-US Folk Fest will be hosted at 4200 Johnston en-US Road in Fort Pierce. en-US 26 en-USAen-USfter months of delays, the moment en-US finally came. On Saturday, March en-US 11, Florida Club in Stuart re-opened en-US for business. The course closed over 10 en-US months ago for a complete overhaul and en-US refurbishment and locals have been en-US chomping at the bit to stick a tee in the en-US ground and play the course.en-US Based on the response from the golfers I en-US spoke with as they played or finished their en-US round, the wait may have been long, but it en-US was well worth it.en-US Beautiful, fun, so much better, I love it, en-US were just a few of the accolades I heard. The en-US tee sheet reflects it as well, as the course has en-US been nearly full each day and the restaurant en-US is also hopping.en-US The timing of the opening worked out en-US well for those golfers wanting to keep up en-US with the NCAA Basketball Championship en-US Tournament. As players finished their en-US rounds or before they started, the televien-US -en-US sions were tuned to the games. The en-US restaurant had a good crowd enjoying cold en-US beverages and excellent food.en-US "We are thrilled with the feedback we en-US have been receiving, said head professional en-US Brendan Murphy. I am very proud of my en-US staff and the professional service we are en-US providing.en-US Soon, it was my turn to play the course en-US for the first time in a couple of years. My en-US best friend and colleague, Dan Shube, en-US joined me. en-US The first thing we noticed was en-US how much more room there is off en-US all over the course. Where there en-US used to be palmettos and other en-US scrub pinching the fairways, or en-US intimidating your approach, there is en-US now groomed rough now and en-US chipping areas. The new rough is en-US also a lot easier to play from and the en-US ball doesnt seem to settle down like en-US it does in Bermuda grass. There is en-US no shortage of bunkers, as I found en-US one on seven of my first nine holes. en-US Nowhere on the course is there a en-US better example of how open the course has en-US become than at the par-4 12th. This long, en-US severe dogleg right begs you to take a en-US short-cut over the waste area and wetland en-US down the right side. If you bite enough off, en-US you are rewarded with a shorter approach en-US from a better angle. In the past, there were en-US several tall pines to navigate around, as well en-US as a lot of scrub. It was difficult to see the en-US fairway across and the tee shot could be en-US quite intimidating. These have all been en-US removed and the view allows you to pick en-US your line much more easily.en-US Today, with golf balls that go a long way en-US and clubs that assist that, the best way to en-US defend a course that you cannot add a lot of en-US length to is to make putting and chipping a en-US challenge. en-US The greens at Florida Club are larger and en-US feature more undulation. A lot more en-US undulation. We had some putts and chips en-US that broke as much to the left or right as en-US they had to travel to get to the hole. I think en-US we may have found where Jimmy Hoffas en-US car was buried. en-US The par-4 16th hole has seen the most en-US change. What used to be a short, straight-en-US away hole, now features a green moved well en-US to the right and guarded by water on three en-US sides. Here you can hit anything from a en-US hybrid to a driver and have about the same en-US distance on your approach, just from a en-US different angle.en-US The finishing hole remains one of the en-US best in the area. The par-4 requires a en-US well-placed tee shot to allow you the en-US opportunity to hit a middle iron over the en-US wetland, to the green. The cluster of pines en-US that used to deter aiming safely left are en-US gone. I like this as it allows golfers who en-US cannot reach the green the chance to still go en-US over the wetland at a shorter point and go en-US to the green from there. en-US Florida Clubs maintenance staff also hit en-US the jackpot with new mowers, tractors and en-US other equipment.
