The states supervisors of elections en-US would then have three days to personally en-US inspect ballots with overvotes or undervotes. en-US The more complicated scenario is not expecten-US -en-US ed for the governors race where Republican en-US Ron DeSantis 0.41-percent lead over Tallaen-US-en-US hassee Mayor Andrew would not meet the en-US 0.25 percent threshold for a manual recount.en-US As far as Floridas race for commissioner of en-US agriculture, Fort Lauderdale attorney and en-US Democratic candidate Nicole Nikki Fried en-US led Republican challenger Rep. Mr. Stamm is anxious to get the en-US party started.en-US It will be out in my front yard, and its en-US just like going to the races, he said. You en-US can buy hats, shirts and other things, and en-US were going to have pizza and cokes.en-US No stranger to racing and racecars, Mr. en-US Stamm originally ran an automobile repair en-US shop known as Johnnys Auto & Truck en-US Repair in the 1960s and raced his own cars en-US on the side before he turned 20.en-US I had the track record at the old track off en-US of Angle Road, back to 1963, he said with en-US pride in his voice. We had two tracks here en-US -racing was big back then in Fort Pierce. en-US By the end of that decade, he had noticed en-US the need by utility companies for specialized en-US work vehicles outfitted with lift-type appaen-US -en-US ratus and launched Stamms Manufacturing en-US on July 1, 1968. Within a year he had four en-US employees and subsequently sold his first en-US Scissor Lift to the City of Miami to work on en-US traffic signals. Today he has 25 employees en-US and has continued to improve on his origien-US-en-US nal Scissor Lift design, as well as added a en-US line aerial buckets, security towers and en-US many other items. The employees also manen-US -en-US ufacture most of the truck bodies on-site en-US that will incorporate the various lift devices.en-US We buy basic bodies now and add modien-US -en-US fications for the specific type of work, Mr. en-US Stamm explained.en-US Today the companys products can be en-US found in operation around the globe in a en-US vast array of environments, ranging from en-US utility companies to schools, municipalities en-US and even Walt Disney World. Mr. Stamm en-US made his first international sale to the counen-US-en-US try of Puerto Rico, outfitting more than 300 en-US work vehicles there with lift devices after the en-US country was devastated by Hurricane Hugo. en-US In spite of its huge growth and expansion, en-US Stamm Manufacturing remains faithful to en-US its original Scissor Lift and the company en-US founder said it remains one of the firms en-US most requested items. His employees manuen-US -en-US facture up to 35 of them a year.en-US The new style is still the most popular all en-US over the USA, he said. We sell from New en-US York to California.en-US Now 73, Mr. Stamm said he does not plan en-US on retirement anytime soon and is now en-US actively expanding the security tower lift en-US line of his homegrown company. The Fort en-US Pierce companys towers can even be spoten-US-en-US ted in the parking areas around the Walt en-US Disney World Ticket and Transportation en-US Center that connects the Magic Kingdom en-US with EPCOT Center.en-US We are presently building them for en-US malls, Disney World, police departments en-US and now the military, he beamed.en-US Mr. Stamm admitted business obligations en-US keep him from attending many races nowaen-US -en-US days but said he occasionally makes it over en-US to Bristol Tenn. or more locally to Daytona en-US Beach or Homestead to watch a race. If you en-US can get by on Nov. 16, you can share his en-US enthusiasm over the #11 FedEx Toyota en-US Camry, outfitted with a racing V8 engine en-US and Direct Shift 8-speed electronically conen-US -en-US trolled automatic transmission that can also en-US be shifted manually. I was hoping that he would decide en-US that he wants to be here, and unfortunately en-US it seems like he wants to offer a professional en-US service and continue on, but not as a tradien-US -en-US tional city attorney. So whats the will of the en-US Council as far as your philosophy on how en-US the city attorney should serve the city and en-US what the structure should be?en-US The mayor discovered immediately that en-US none of his fellow Council members wanted en-US to do another attorney search at present, en-US with most expressing contentment with Mr. en-US Stokes success in managing a Legal Departen-US-en-US ment in disarray after the abrupt resignation en-US of O. Basically I underen-US -en-US stand the traditional aspect, but everythings en-US working well. I had a one-on-one with Mr. en-US Stokes and talked about some options. Hes en-US done an excellent job for the city and has en-US gotten the city attorneys office in line.en-US Commissioner John Carvelli echoed the en-US Vice-Mayors comments, emphasizing that en-US the interim city attorney has always taken en-US time out to provide him a legal viewpoint.en-US Hes been available when I needed him, en-US so personally I dont think we need the en-US revolving door to keep moving because I en-US think it sends a bad message, he said. If we en-US did open up a search, Im going to be en-US upfront with you: Weve had too much turnen-US -en-US over to attract a quality candidate and it may en-US get very difficult, and the first question they en-US ask is whyd the last guy leave?.en-US Councilwoman Jolien Caraballo emphaen-US -en-US sized that Mr. Stokes had been able to make en-US his limited city schedule work successfully en-US and had expressed an willingness to provide en-US more hours to the city in the future.en-US In my opinion Mr. Stokes has proven en-US that hes able -not everybody is able -to en-US make it work under the timetable hes proen-US -en-US vided, she said. I think that so far, so good, en-US and it feels like things are starting to stabien-US -en-US lize and people are starting to work well en-US with each other.en-US Councilwoman Caraballo also concurred en-US with Councilman Carvelli on the complicaen-US-en-US tions of filling a city attorney position in a en-US competitive market.en-US Theres also Fort Pierce thats currently en-US looking for a city attorney so were going to en-US be pulling from the same pool if we move en-US forward on that, she added.en-US For her part, Councilwoman Stefanie en-US Morgan had few words to add to what her en-US fellow Board members had already said.en-US Ditto, ditto, ditto -hes done a great job, en-US she said.en-US Mayor Oravec then admitted he would be en-US taking a contrary position and would try en-US not to make it too acrimonious.en-US I do think that the City of Port St. Lucie en-US as the most populous city deserves a full-en-US time city attorney whos all in on the City of en-US Port St. Lucie, he said. I see en-US this as a waste of taxpayer money. It does en-US absolutely nothing to make the public safer en-US and possibly puts at risk the life of someone en-US who has had a life failure and is back on the en-US road to being a productive citizen, spouse en-US and parent. Numerous studies have shown en-US that those on the registry are, more than en-US likely, the least to be concerned with. en-US Ninety percent of sexual assault victims en-US know their attacker. "Stranger Danger" is a en-US myth. Ninety-five percent of sexual offenses en-US are committed by someone who is not on en-US the registry. The recidivism rate for sex en-US offenders is 3.5 percent, the rate for all classen-US-en-US es of crime, is roughly 67 percent. There is en-US no scholarly study that conclusively demonen-US-en-US strates that sex offender registries make our en-US communities any safer, in fact they could en-US contribute to problems. en-US As a parent, I would be more concerned en-US about what a drug dealer might slip into my en-US child's collection bag or people who are on en-US the road so inebriated with holiday cheer en-US that I and my child might become an uninen-US -en-US tended target.en-USOlder trick or treaters en-US leave trash behinden-USMy wife and I collected a lot of trash en-US walking around one block the morning after en-US Halloween. We collected candy wrappers, en-US beer bottles, water bottles and discarded en-US masks.en-US We are happy to celebrate Halloween and en-US every year we buy and give out lots of candy. en-US The little kids in costumes are wonderful en-US and you can see how excited they are to en-US roam the neighborhood and collect candy.en-US The problem is groups of teenagers, no en-US costumes, carrying backpacks and pillow en-US slips to snag as much as they can, as fast as en-US they can. Then they tear off the wrappers en-US and leave their trash wherever it falls.en-US We had some kids that were 18 years old en-US and older. I know because they graduated en-US high school last year, and since they don't en-US bother with costumes, you know who they en-US are. These kids need to find other activities en-US rather than competing with little kids to en-US grab candy and leave trash.en-USA change in Americaen-USIt seems that we have let Make America en-US Great Again go to our head, under the curen-US -en-US rent President no longer are we the United en-US States of America, we are America; divided en-US by lying and talking out the side of our neck.en-US I think we as the Republican Party have en-US no moral or ethical values, we are using en-US common sense. Not only are the lies hurting en-US others, they have us losing respect. Now, we en-US are going to cut Social security, Medicare en-US and Medicaid because it's costing too much en-US and that's why we can't get the budget down, en-US says Mitch McConnell. Does our party en-US think we are dumb, simple and stupid?en-US I want to be a Republican Party member, en-US not an afterthought.en-USFelons and votingen-USFor anyone disappointed about the en-US amendment for the restoration voting rights en-US of felons, here are a couple of things you en-US should think about.en-US Number one, if they quit paying taxes, en-US depending on the amount, theyll be a felon en-US again. Also, they should be out of trouble for en-US a minimum amount of time after they have en-US done their time, paid their restitution or en-US whatever.en-US A person who commits a felony, especialen-US -en-US ly a violent one, is not the best of our citien-US-en-US zens. They lose the right to have firearms, to en-US vote and other things. I am all for second en-US chances, but people have to try hard to stay en-US out of trouble. en-USNo vote, no taxesen-USReading about the fourth amendment on en-US the ballot brought to mind one of the princien-US -en-US ples of our founding fathers.en-US Taxation without representation is tyranen-US -en-US ny. If you are a U.S. citizen and denied your en-US right to vote for whatever reason (age, crimen-US -en-US inal background, etc.), you should also lose en-US your obligation to pay taxes.en-USCooler roads prevailen-USWhy is it some of the roads are paved with en-US a light colored asphalt mix and others are en-US getting blacktopped?en-US Dont the roads get hot enough around en-US here? Is it that much cheaper to pave the en-US road with blacktop? We pay plenty in taxes. en-US Any little thing to cool things off here helps, en-US like shade, lighter colored roadways and en-US select clearing of shade trees during conen-US -en-US struction. What are these builders thinking en-US of, other than profit? Its time people started en-US to wake up and speak up. It is later than you en-US think, folks say something. Do something. en-US Before its all blacktopped.en-USFree the sidewalksen-USIn my neighborhood, there have been en-US three barriers for sidewalks up for over a en-US year and a I am really upset about this. They en-US call to tell me of their bad experience with en-US another dealer and, when I get several calls en-US on the same subject, I write a column on it. en-US People often call me asking for advice or en-US assistance after theyve already bought, en-US which is closing the barn door after the en-US horse is gone. On more than one occasion en-US Ive called car dealers asking them to en-US consider undoing a wrong they have caused en-US one of their customers. I must confess that en-US my batting average on this effort is below en-US 300. I wont give up, however. One of my en-US most recent calls was from a customer who en-US was charged nearly a $1,000 in service work en-US performed on her car when she had en-US brought it in for a routine service that en-US should have cost her less than $100. She en-US called me for help and was forceful and en-US diligent in following my advice. She got a en-US complete refund on the unasked for, en-US unnecessary charges.en-US One thing that amazes me about these en-US weekly columns and my radio show is that en-US I have been writing and airing for nearly 14 en-US years is that no car dealer has ever called en-US me to complain, or for any other reason. en-US Ive not been sued either. I think that says en-US something about the truth of my articles. en-US Im not a lawyer, but I do know that you en-US cant successfully sue somebody for libel or en-US slander if they write or say the truth. Im en-US puzzled why not one single dealer would en-US call me just out of curiosity. I dont have a en-US secretary and I dont screen any of my en-US callsnor do any of my employees. They en-US do know how successful my dealership is en-US and how fast my sales are growing. They en-US know that Im selling a lot of their former en-US customers. Many of these new customers en-US tell me how they told the other dealers why en-US they chose to take their business elsewhere. en-US I believe that before too much longer we en-US will see some changes in the way other car en-US dealers do business even if they refuse to en-US call me, as I have repeatedly invited them to en-US do. Sooner or later they will understand en-US that treating your customers with courtesy en-US and integrity is just plain good business. ON CARS en-USEARL STEWART

CALL NOW! 772-236-5555 How everything is en-USconnecteden-USTen-UShis week, I thought we would talk en-US about how everything in the en-US computer is connected. By connecten-US -en-US ed I dont mean by wires and other en-US mechanical means, but internally, through en-US the computers filing system. en-US Often I hear people say that a particular en-US file (picture or text) is in my word en-US processor or its in my email program. en-US That implies that the file in question can be en-US accessed only with that particular program. en-US Not so. en-US Let me explain; most programs on your en-US computer are capable of opening different en-US types of files. For instance, word processors en-US such as Microsoft Word or Works Word en-US Processor are for working with text files, en-US while photo editors, such as Paint Shop Pro en-US and PhotoShop are just the thing for en-US working with pictures. en-US The files themselves are not stored en-US within the program, they are stored en-US somewhere on the hard drive, available to en-US any program capable of working with them. en-US That means you can share files often times en-US with many other programs. All you really en-US need to know is where on your hard drive en-US the files really live. en-US This is an example of a typical file name en-US complete with its path on the hard drive: en-US c:\users\owner\documents\filename.docxen-US en-US The path tells how to get to a files location en-US on the hard drive. en-US Lets take a closer look: The c:\ indicates en-US what disk drive the file is stored on. Each en-US disk drive on the computer has a letter en-US assigned to it with a: and b: reserved for en-US floppy drives (remember those?), your hard en-US drive (c:), and your CD-Rom (typically d:), en-US and so on. The drive letter is how we know en-US what drive the file we are working with en-US resides on. en-US The next part of our path, users\, is the en-US first folder or directory. Just like the manila en-US folders you use in a file cabinet keep files en-US organized, directories on your computer en-US organize your computer files. Each en-US directory is separated by a back slash (\) en-US and you can have directories within en-US directories. en-US In our example, the documents folder en-US is in the owner folder, which is in the en-US users folder, which is on the c: drive. en-US The last part of our path is the actual file en-US name. en-US A typical file name comes in two parts, en-US the name, separated by a dot and the en-US extension. The name is what we call the file en-US when we saved it (a fairly important thing en-US to note when saving). And the extension en-US tells the computer what kind of file it is so it en-US knows what kind of program can open it.en-US en-US Once you know the path to a particular file, en-US you can access it from most of your favorite en-US programs. en-US For instance, say you got a picture en-US e-mailed to you and you want to use that en-US picture in a letter you are writing with your en-US word processor. en-US The first step in getting the picture into en-US your letter happens when you save the en-US picture from e-mail. Make a note of the full en-US path and file name when you save it and en-US you can access it any time. en-US When you are ready to import your en-US picture, use the insert menu (typical on en-US most word processors) to load your picture. en-US When the dialogue box comes up asking en-US what file you want to insert, you can type in en-US the files full path and filename or easier en-US yet, just navigate to the file by double en-US clicking. Start in the my pc window and en-US double click the drive letter, each folder and en-US end with the file name, if typing, separate en-US your folders with back slashes and dont en-US forget the extension after the dot. Then en-US click OK. You should have your picture en-US inserted into your letter. en-US As you can see, the path and file name is en-US enormously important. So often I hear, its en-US on my hard drive, but I dont know where en-US or that file is in my word processor. If you en-US pay attention to what name and folder the en-US file is saved under when you save it, youll en-US never misplace another file. en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. 14 PORT ST. LUCIE Champion Home en-USHealth Care in Vero Beach has been chosen en-US several times by Hometown News readers as en-US Best Home Health Care Provider. After en-US spending some time with owners Tom and en-US Anne Michaels and the rest of the staff, it en-US became apparent that readers like them en-US because they work so hard to understand en-US what the client wants. And they smile.en-US With people who havent had home en-US health care before, they are often hesitant en-US because they feel someone coming into en-US their home is going to dictate to them, and en-US take away their freedom, Mr. Michaels said. en-US They dont want someone else in their en-US home telling them what to do. At Champion, en-US its quite the opposite. Our aides know that en-US the client is the boss. Anything the client en-US needs, our aide should be able to provide en-US them. Excellence is not a one-time act, its a en-US habit.en-US This year is the 25th anniversary of en-US Champion Home Health Care, which en-US started in Boca Raton in 1993. Tom and en-US Anne Michaels have run the Vero Beach en-US office for 12 years.en-US Champion Home Health Care helps en-US Indian River County seniors with many en-US needs, including wake up and/or tuck in; en-US bathing/dressing; assistance with walking; en-US physical therapy; shopping; errands; doctor en-US appointments; medication reminders; low en-US vision services; meal preparation; light en-US housework; in-facility assistance; skilled en-US nursing services; Alzheimer specialist.en-US Most important for many new clients, en-US they respect seniors independence.en-US Put yourself in your parents situation, en-US Mr. Michaels explained. Theyve lived en-US independently for so many years. They want en-US to remain independent as much as they can. en-US And theyre adults. They may be having en-US difficulty with certain activities like bathing, en-US dressing, making meals, but theyre not en-US children. They usually know what needs to en-US be done, theyre just having trouble doing it. en-US So they want someone to assist them with en-US what needs to be done, and thats where we en-US come in. We will do whatever they need to en-US keep them safe and happy in their own en-US home.en-US Thats our motto, keeping our clients safe en-US and happy and making sure we do it with en-US excellence.en-US In order to deliver that level of service en-US consistently, Champion has built a highly en-US qualified team.en-US Amie Wilson, RN, is Champions Director en-US of Nursing. Ms. Wilsons nursing en-US background and expertise includes home en-US care and acute care cardiac nursing. Ive heard so en-US many good things about Champion. I got en-US lucky when I got hired here. Ms. Wilson is en-US responsible for many aspects of the service en-US including managing client and caregiver en-US satisfaction, managing nursing care, and en-US matching the right caregiver with the client.en-US As I spoke with the employees, each en-US discussed the importance of that proper en-US match of caregiver and client.en-US Its never a guess as to whether a person en-US has the right skill set for a job, said Jennifer en-US Bono, Champions Human Resource en-US Manager. Ms. Bono makes sure she knows en-US each employees exact skills, so she can help en-US the team meet the needs and desires of each en-US client.en-US We make sure we have the best people, en-US said Ms. Bono. When we send someone en-US into a home, its my job to make sure they en-US are qualified for what we are sending them en-US to do. We want very friendly, kind, caring, en-US well-trained caregivers. Ms. Bono checks en-US each employees references, background, en-US and credentials to make sure they are perfect en-US for the job.en-US When Billing and Payroll Manager Kathy en-US Hirsch needed care for an immediate family en-US member, she chose Champion, based on en-US what shes learned in her four years with the en-US company.en-US We have caregivers with 20 or more years en-US experience, Ms. Hirsch said. My husband en-US had a hip operation and I had one of the en-US LPNs come to my home and check on him.en-US Like the other employees, Ms. Hirsch en-US discussed the importance of matching the en-US client with exactly the right person. Making en-US sure every client gets exactly who and what en-US they want is key to their business model.en-US You dont want to let just anyone in your en-US home, Ms. Hirsch said. We tell en-US them dont give up on it, give us a try. We en-US match the client with the proper caregiver. en-US We make sure we know the type of person en-US the client wants. Nationwide CPC-0-435A-) (09/17) 0535544 HOME | BUSINESS | RETIREMENT A en-USs I have watched the election results en-US here in Florida over the weekend, I en-US found myself wondering if we were en-US headed for yet another fiasco. Only this en-US time, three races are being affected, not just en-US one. The races to determine our next en-US Governor, Senator and Commissioner of en-US Agriculture are all too close to call. en-US Ron DeSantis leads Andrew Gillum by en-US about 35,000 votes. Rick Scott leads Bill en-US Nelson by just over 13,000 votes and Nicole en-US Fried leads Matt Caldwell by a mere 5,000 en-US votes. Each of these will eventually, or so we en-US hope, be decided when the final re-count of en-US votes is complete.en-US The craziness of thinking that our fine en-US state will once again be the butt of late night en-US jokes gave me such a headache that I dozed en-US off on the sofa and in the middle of my en-US restless sleep, I began to dream. Instead of en-US spending millions upon millions in attorney en-US fees, each fighting to get their way, the en-US candidates agreed to settle the matter like en-US people of old. The races would be settled in en-US a sporting manner, on the golf course.en-US The first problem was deciding which en-US golf course would host this competition. en-US President Donald Trump quickly stepped en-US up and invited everyone to his Trump en-US International Golf Club in West Palm en-US Beach. To say this did not go over well with en-US the Democrats, would be putting it mildly. en-US There would be no home-field advantage.en-US The six of them finally decided on a en-US course, the name and location of which en-US shall be kept secret to protect the innocent, en-US and the matches were officially on.en-US DeSantis arrived first. He headed to the en-US driving range and began pounding balls to en-US the far side of the range. Gillum arrived en-US next and decided he would start by rolling en-US in some putts on the practice green. en-US Both Scott and Nelson nearly missed en-US their 10 a.m. start. Scotts excuse involved en-US something about dumping fresh, bottled en-US water into the St. Lucie River, while Nelson en-US simply over-slept.en-US Fried and Caldwell were the last to show. en-US It appears their tractors were not equipped en-US with the latest GPS systems and they wound en-US up helping a farmer plow a field before en-US making it to the golf course. Of the six en-US competitors, this pair was, by far, the most en-US civil. en-US Of course, I was chosen to referee the en-US match. All six candidates wanted input en-US from the gallery to decide which set of tees en-US to play from. The Democrats wanted to en-US make sure that everyone would get to vote en-US and that each of those votes would be en-US counted. The Republicans agreed, but just en-US as we were about to tee off, a box of en-US uncounted votes turned up sitting next to en-US the hot dog cart by the range. We spent the en-US next hour debating whether those votes en-US were legitimate or not.en-US The event would be played under match en-US play rules. In honor of our electoral college, en-US winning the harder holes would be worth en-US more than winning the easier holes. It en-US would be the candidate who won the most en-US electoral handicap points who would en-US occupy his or her respective office. Conen-US -en-US fused? So was I, but somehow it made en-US perfect sense to the politicians.en-US At the first tee, I went through the en-US candidates bags and made sure that they en-US only had 14 clubs, had properly marked and en-US could identify their golf balls, and decided en-US who would hit first. Gillum had too many en-US clubs, and golf balls that were marked, I en-US love the FBI. en-US Predictably, Scotts golf balls were marked en-US Go Navy, and he quickly proceeded to hit en-US a couple into the lake on the first hole. en-US Oddly, he thought that since they were en-US Navy golf balls, they would like the water en-US and float. Maybe he picked up the submaen-US -en-US rine ones instead.en-US DeSantis had mysteriously replaced most en-US of his woods with rifles and other firearms. en-US After producing the proper permits and en-US promising to observe a two-hole waiting en-US period before firing them, he was allowed en-US to bring his weapons along.en-US After the seventh hole Scott and DeSantis en-US each had an early lead. Many of the Gillum en-US supporters nearly went home after DeSantis en-US made a remarkable birdie at the 15th. en-US Gillum was so shaken that he conceded the en-US match and then realized he still had a en-US chance to win due to an odd scorekeeping en-US mix up. Apparently, the scorekeepers had en-US forgotten to count all of DeSantis strokes. en-US Gillum withdrew his concession as en-US scorekeepers began a stroke re-count.en-US The same thing happened in the Scott/en-US Nelson match. Midway through the back en-US nine, Scott had what he felt was an insuren-US -en-US mountable lead and declared himself the en-US winner. Nelson was taken aback and found en-US there to be the same poor scorekeeping in en-US his match.en-US At the 18th hole, we encountered a major en-US problem, a problem that would muddle the en-US entire event. It seemed that the gallery had en-US inadvertently trampled the tee shots of each en-US of the candidates, and they were all faced en-US with a terrible lie.en-US Come to find out, some of the gallery had en-US mistakenly thought that they were tramen-US -en-US pling President Trumps ball, while the rest en-US had been told that Hillary Clinton had en-US snuck in and was playing in the event, en-US hoping to undo her loss from two years ago.en-US All the candidates stood lock-jawed in en-US the middle of the fairway, each refusing to en-US hit his or her approach shot until things en-US were resolved.en-US Just about then, darkness fell upon the en-UScourse and my alarm went off. I shook the en-US cobwebs from my head and tried to en-US convince myself that it was just a dream. en-US Then I picked up the morning paper. en-US James Stammer has been an avid golfer en-US and golf enthusiast for nearly 40 years. 18 en-USWen-UShat is all the fuss about eating en-US turkey? OK, OK, its high in en-US protein and low in fat, a low-carb en-US dieters dream. It is also an inexpensive en-US source of iron, zinc, phosphorus, potassium en-US and B-vitamins. en-US Turkey does have a strange power, en-US though. It has the ability to be a natural en-US sedative. Turkey has an amino acid called en-US tryptophan that helps the body produce the en-US B-vitamin niacin, which in turn helps the en-US body to produce serotonin that acts as a en-US calming agent in the brain and plays a role en-US in sleep. Now you know why everyone falls en-US asleep after Thanksgiving dinners. en-US By the way, it was Abraham Lincoln who en-US had Thanksgiving declared a federal en-US holiday in 1864.en-US Turkey is a variety of the pheasant and en-US recent fossil evidence shows turkeys have en-US roamed the Americas for 10 million years. I en-US cant quite understand that dinosaurs didnt en-US make it, but turkeys did. en-US The Aztecs are believed to be the first to en-US domesticate the turkey. And Christopher en-US Columbus brought turkeys back to Europe en-US and, by the 1500s, turkeys were being raised en-US domestically in Italy, France and England en-US for royalty and the aristocracy.en-US Turkey with all the trimmings was the en-US first meal eaten on the moon by astronauts en-US Neil Armstrong and Buzz Aldrin.en-US Now that you know what all the fuss is en-US over turkeys, lets talk about the best part en-US eating turkey. Do you like it smoked, fried, en-US braised, baked, boiled or stewed? What is en-US best is really up to you, but here are a few en-US tips that might help: en-US Purchase at least one pound of en-US uncooked turkey per person for dinner and en-US leftovers. If your family members have big en-US appetites figure on one and one half pounds en-US per person.en-US Fresh or frozen? Both are great choices. en-US I prefer fresh, though. I think it is a little en-US moister when cooked. Fresh turkey may en-US only be kept in the refrigerator one to two en-US days before cooking.en-US Frozen turkey should be thawed in the en-US refrigerator. 8 to 12 lbs. 1 to 2 da ys 12 to 16 lbs. 2 to 3 da ys 16 to 20 lbs. 3 to 4 da ys 20 to 24 lbs. 4 to 5 da ys en-US Once the turkey is thawed, it may only en-US be refrigerated one to two days before en-US cooking.en-US It is best to cook stuffing outside the en-US bird in a separate dish. The turkey will cook en-US faster, and the breast will retain moisture en-US better. If you decide to stuff the turkey, stuff en-US it just prior to cooking. Dressing should en-US cook to an internal temperature of 165 en-US degrees. en-US How much stuffing is enough? Usually en-US one cup per pound of turkey.en-US A thermometer is the best way to tell if en-US a turkey is done. The dark meat must reach en-US 165 degrees. Be careful not to touch bone en-US when temping, as you will get an inaccurate en-US reading. When reheating turkey the next en-US day, it should be heated to 165 degrees.en-US To store cooked turkey, it should be en-US placed in a covered container, plastic food en-US bag, or wax paper and aluminum foil for up en-US to 7 days in the refrigerator or three months en-US in the freezer.en-US Season the cavity with your secret en-US ingredients for best results. As for myself, I en-US love garlic hmmm, my father used to call en-US it Greek perfume!en-US My all-time favorite sandwich is made en-US from left-over turkey. Thank you for en-US Thanksgiving!en-USTHE TURKEY CLUB en-USIngredientsen-US Toasted bread, lettuce, tomato, cheddar en-US cheese, bacon and heavy mayonnaise. en-US Costa Magoulas is dean of the Mori en-US Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary en-US Management at Daytona State College. Garden en-US Mums come in many colors and styles. en-US Garden Mums are a staple to the holiday en-US season and represent the end of summer en-US and the beginning of fall. Mums are actualen-US -en-US ly fairly easy to grow and can withstand en-US both low and high humidity situations. en-US Mums can actually mimic the look of en-US other flowers such as the smaller flower of en-US a daisy (Daisy Mums) or the larger and en-US fancier varieties that can almost look like en-US roses. You can get Chrysanthemum plants en-US in almost every color but blue.en-US Mums have been around for a long time en-US and I am sure that many of you have en-US helped your parents or grandparents en-US display these colorful gems during the en-US holidays. Most of the varieties that we use en-US here in North America are simply known en-US as Garden Mums with the botanical en-US classification of Dendranthea grandifloen-US -en-US rum. About 80 percent of all garden Mums en-US are sold during the fall and early winter. en-US The reason that these colorful plants burst en-US into bloom in fall is because the shorter en-US days, cooler temperatures and longer en-US nights all contribute to the triggering en-US mechanism that causes these plants to en-US burst into color. Since this winter is going en-US be an El Nino winter, the forecast is for a en-US wet and cool winter season in Florida. This en-US should be great weather for Mums and en-US other winter flowers that love cooler en-US temperatures!en-US Many people simply buy their Mums in en-US the fall already in bloom from retailers. en-US Others like to plant their own plants and en-US watch them mature and bloom in their en-US own gardens. If you decide to try planting en-US your own, do so in the spring so the root en-US systems can have a chance to get well en-US established to ensure a happy, healthy en-US plant. en-US Mums should be planted in a location en-US that will get only a half-day of sun or en-US slightly less. This is especially true in the en-US areas south of Vero Beach. The areas north en-US of Vero Beach will probably have better en-US results with growing Mums in your garden en-US as the harsh effects of the sun are slightly en-US lessened. You can ensure you will get more en-US flowers in the fall if you pinch back the top en-US inch or so of growth about every three en-US weeks until about mid July. This process en-US will help to promote heavy flowing in the en-US fall. Please note you only do the above en-US process if you plan on growing and en-US maintaining your garden Mums on a year en-US round basis.en-US Mums will grow in a variety of soils as en-US long as it is well drained. Mums do not en-US require a lot of fertilizer but will appreciate en-US a light feeding about once a month with a en-US water-soluble fertilizer such as Miracle en-US Gro. It will also help if you stake your en-US plants, as this will help them to support en-US themselves and keep the heavy Florida en-US rains from knocking them over.en-US If you plan on only using your Mums as en-US a potted decoration for the holidays, many en-US of the same rules will apply. Keep the plant en-US in a bright, well-lit area of the house and en-US do not let the plant get too dry between en-US watering cycles. Remember that potted en-US plants will dry out much faster then plants en-US that are placed in the ground. A/C will also en-US have an impact on your plant's moisture en-US level.en-US As you can see, having and taking care en-US of Mums does not have to be difficult. en-US Growing and viewing these plants can en-US have so many rewards that any work en-US involved in keeping them looking nice will en-US be well worth it.en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape. en-US Send e-mails toen-US hometowngarden@gmail.en-US com en-US or visit his website, en-USwww.hometownen-US -en-US garden.com.
