One leaves the game en-US with those lofty ideals confirmed; the en-US other leaves dejected and defeated.en-US The match-up Friday night at South en-US County Regional Stadium between en-US Vero Beach High School and St. Lucie en-US West Centennial has all that drama. en-US The two powerhouses enter the game en-US as the only 5-0 undefeated teams on en-US the Treasure Coast.en-US An equally intriguing subplot is the en-US first ever gridiron battle between two en-US close childhood friends, Jahfari Haren-US -en-US vey of Vero Beach and Myles Youngen-US -en-US blood of Centennial.en-US Defensive end Jahfari was one of his en-US teams heroes last week, scooping up a en-US fumble in the last minute of play and en-US returning it for a touchdown to give en-US Vero Beach a 27-20 win over Pahokee.en-US Myles Youngblood, who plays both en-US wide receiver and quarterback, has en-US developed into a triple threat who can en-US pass, catch, and run. His Centennial en-US team rolled over Martin County 30-0 en-US last week, setting up this weeks battle en-US against not only VBHS, but also his old en-US friend Jahfari.en-US Both know that there will likely be at en-US least one time during the game when en-US they have to hit each other really hard. en-US Whoever succeeds most in that en-US encounter will carry the burden of en-US knowing that his friend was defeated. en-US Both are ready for that hit, even eager.en-US Theres no holding back on the en-US field, Jahfari told Hometown News. en-USFootball en-US clash en-US features en-US battle of en-US two best en-US friendsen-USBy Mike LOOKING FOR A HOME 7 en-USThis pretty kitty is ready en-US for a family to call her en-US own en-USMEET JEZEBEL en-USVISIT US ONLINEen-USWant to catch up on a en-US favorite columnist or see en-US more pictures and more en-US community news? en-USMISSING A en-US FAVORITE FEATURE? en-USTAKE US WITH YOUen-USTouring with en-US the Townies en-US features en-US reader-suben-US-en-US mitted en-US photos from en-US travels. Ever.en-US So if hes got to totally lay Myles out with en-US a hit, will he do it?en-US Most definitely, Jahfari said. And I en-US hope he does the same to me.en-US Myles Youngblood feels the same way.en-US Im going to give him my worst, Myles en-US said. Our whole friendship is about keepen-US-en-US ing our heads on the field and watching en-US everything that goes on. He knows that, so en-US if I catch him slipping, Ive got to do it.en-US Jahfari and Myles played together one en-US year, when they were freshman at John en-US Carroll High School.en-US He transferred to Centennial first, then en-US I transferred to Vero Beach a couple of en-US weeks later, Jahfari said.en-US Both men have great respect for each en-US others game.en-US There is nothing I could say that is en-US weak about his game, Myles said about en-US Jahfari. Hes not normal. Theres nothing I en-US can say that he does wrong. He just keeps en-US working and getting better.en-US Hes an athlete, Jahfari said about en-US Myles. He can do multiple things. He can en-US play quarterback, receiver, he can move, en-US but I have more speed than him, Ive got en-US more speed.en-US Yeah, Id give him that, Myles replied.en-US Hometown News spoke with each just en-US before last weeks games, when Vero Beach en-US was about to play Pahokee and Centennial en-US was preparing for Martin County. But it en-US was clear they each had their eyes on their en-US upcoming face-off.en-US This will be the first time we have en-US played against each other in a real game, en-US Jahfari said. Im really excited! Theres en-US something special going against my buddy en-US for the first time. Both of our teams are en-US undefeated. Its going to be a fun game.en-US Its definitely something we have to en-US prepare for, but I dont think its something en-US that were not ready for, Myles said. I en-US think well come out with the win by about en-US 7 points. Its going to be a tight game.en-US On that point they disagreed.en-US I say Vero Beach over Centennial by at en-US least 30 points, Jahfari said. Nah, Ill say en-US 21 points.en-US The two friends talk every day, and en-US though Jahfari says theyve been taunting en-US each other in preparation for the game, en-US Myles says Nah, not at all, were just keepen-US -en-US ing it humble. Asked if they expected to en-US trash-talk each other during the game, en-US both said they did.en-US Oh yeah, definitely, Jahfari said. en-US I might get in his face a couple of times, en-US just to let him know, Myles responded. It en-US is what it is. If he says something, Im en-US going to say something back.en-US Asked if they had a bet on the game, like en-US Myles having to wear a VBHS jersey or en-US Jahfari having to wear a Centennial jersey en-US if the other team wins, Jahfari said Not en-US yet, but thats not a bad idea, Im going to en-US have to talk to him about that.en-US We dont know if they ever made that en-US bet, but if you see one of them wearing the en-US jersey of the other team next week, youll en-US know why.en-US One thing Myles Youngblood and Jahen-US -en-US fari Harvey agreed on is that no matter en-US what happens in the game, they will en-US remain the best of friends.en-US It doesnt matter, well always be brothen-US-en-US ers, Jahfari said.en-US Oh, of course. That en-US would be helpful to me; Ive heard a lot of en-US rumors also, so I think its time for them to en-US speak to us and speak to the community en-US and tell us what challenges theyre facing en-US and how theyre addressing each one of en-US those.en-US Commissioner Reginald Sessions then en-US made it clear hed lost faith in the Humane en-US Society and wants to consider alternatives.en-US If theres an agency that is financially en-US capable of doing so, then we need to en-US explore other avenues for the future en-US because we dont know what the future en-US holds, he said. At the end of the day, en-US youre going to be responsible for these en-US animals and were going to have to put en-US them somewhere. So I dont think we en-US should be putting a whole lot of faith in en-US this agency, at least from what Im being en-US told, and if that is the case, we need to be en-US exploring other possibilities.en-US For his part, Commissioner Jeremiah en-US Johnson said he was pleased city staff had en-US rejected the Humane Society request to en-US raise its annual budget from $130,000 to en-US $180,000 in the 2019 contract. en-US The other thing that I am happy about en-US is the quarterly payment terms, he said. I en-US think I can hold steady at that $133,000 in en-US quarterly payments, but were going to en-US hold their feet to the fire a little bit more, en-US he said. And in six months I think we do en-US need to have a joint meeting with all the en-US municipalities and the Humane Society en-US and figure out what the future holds.en-US Commissioner Reginald Sessions ultien-US-en-US mately made a motion to postpone the en-US discussion until mid-October. That en-US motion passed unanimously and caused en-US the contract to automatically lapse and en-US the Humane Society service go into a en-US monthly agreement instead. The next eveen-US-en-US ning the County Commission took up the en-US same discussion, with Commissioner en-US Kathy Townsend asking her fellow comen-US -en-US missioners to consider alternative agenen-US-en-US cies for providing animal care services in en-US the future.en-US There are serious, serious issues going en-US on there, she said. It is of great concern en-US to me, and I also know three of the biggest en-US contributors that have supported and en-US funded that Humane Society have pulled en-US their funding. However, we have amazing en-US non profits, and I have had conversations en-US with a couple of veterinarians in the area en-US that are willing to step up to the plate and en-US take over the Humane Society.en-US Commissioner Linda Bartz agreed with en-US Commissioner Townsends desire for a en-US month-tomonth agreement with the en-US organization but said interested parties en-US needed to put actions with their words.en-US If we have people who are volunteering en-US to be vets, we need to have them come to en-US the table because the fact is we know we en-US need it, we cant sit back and say if were en-US willing to come up to the table, she said. en-US This is important -we need to give up en-US our time, we need to just do it. This also en-US gives time for the partners to check with en-US the Humane Society of the USA and also en-US look at other alternatives. en-US Commissioner Bartz then made the en-US motion to approve a month-to-month en-US contract and waive the second discussion en-US on the issue so the funding could be in en-US place by the beginning of the fiscal year en-US Oct. 1, which passed unanimously. en-USContracten-USFrom page 1 en-US en-US Race for Recovery:en-US 8th annual race, en-US hosted by New Horizons Mental Health, will en-US be held from 6:30-10 a.m. at First Data Field, en-US 525 N.W. When they finally got tough 6 years en-US ago, Gov. Scott and the Repubs in control all en-US stonewalled, and said these onerous reguen-US -en-US lations would be too hard on FL businesses. en-US Gov. Scott slashed the budgets of all 5 of en-US FLs water management districts, by 40 peren-US -en-US cent. Scientists and engineers were laid off; en-US all land buying projects seem to have en-US stopped. Then FLs Environmental Commisen-US -en-US sion, whose board is appointed by Governor en-US Scott, weakened criteria for 23 toxic chemien-US -en-US cals in FL waterways, allowing higher levels en-US of benzene, for instance.en-USLive clerks vs. machinesen-USA reader lamented the limited number of en-US live clerks vs. scan checkout options and his/en-US her preference for live clerks. I heartily en-US endorse those sentiments and clerks en-US replaced by machines certainly felt the same en-US way. Its a safe bet that overworked real peoen-US-en-US ple who are still employed are earning minien-US-en-US mum wage and stay because they dont have en-US a choice. Florida minimum wage is among en-US the lowest, if not the lowest in the nation.en-US Big corp billionaires tempt consumers en-US with low prices and the ease of ordering. en-US The downside is: lost jobs and lost privacy. en-US Every time you access the Internet for inforen-US -en-US mation and order via the internet you are en-US tracked and your information can be used en-US for more than marketing purposes. Apps en-US are required in some stores for sale items. en-US No app you pay regular price. The Interen-US -en-US net is largely responsible for the creation of en-US this go along to get along society.en-US This morning this headline caught my en-US attention: Should cashless retail stores be en-US banned? Amazon and Walmart are fighting en-US a New Jersey bill that would require stores to en-US accept cash, i.e., if corporations get their en-US way all purchases would have to be made via en-US plastic or app or from some other technical en-US device. Again, technology taking away conen-US-en-US sumer choice and rights.en-US Would Hometown News consider doing en-US a survey about how locals feel about this? en-US Businesses would benefit from the informaen-US-en-US tion which comes directly from consumers, en-US who should be the ones determining how en-US they want to do business.en-USAlso prefers live clerksen-USI happen to agree. People need to stop en-US and realize you don't get a discount for not en-US only doing your own shopping, but checken-US -en-US ing yourself out and bagging your items and en-US taking them to your car.en-US You're paying as much, if not more, and en-US there are less employees. The only place en-US making money off this scam is the store.en-US I have gotten into the habit now if there en-US are only one or two lanes open with a real en-US person and the lines are long, I go back into en-US the store, fill my cart to the brim with non-en-US food items and then leave it.en-US At least one of the few employees left in en-US the store might get some overtime pay for en-US putting the stuff back. If I want to self check, en-US I will stay home, save my gas and shop on en-US Amazon. At least they deliver.en-US'Give bicyclists more room'en-USWhere would you propose bicycle riders en-US ride? On the sidewalks that are meant for en-US pedestrians?en-US It sounds to me you are one of the people en-US who dont move over and give a bicycle rider en-US proper clearance. The only time I see a bicyen-US -en-US cle in the middle of the road is usually when en-US the rider is crossing a road, or going around en-US an obstacle, or in a neighborhood on a back en-US street. This is where you find the neighboren-US -en-US hood children riding who delight in racing en-US and riding in circles and generally doing en-US innocent kid stuff.en-US Bicycles are subject to the same rules as en-US motor vehicles. Just like motor vehicle operen-US -en-US ators, you will find some breaking the law, en-US riding against traffic. This is a danger to all en-US because most cars, when pulling out of a en-US driveway or into an intersection, are not en-US looking for bicycles riding on the wrong en-US side of the road, and just not paying attenen-US -en-US tion.en-US They should be ticketed as should a en-US motorist. Maybe we need more bicycle rider en-US education, but how in the world would en-US requiring a bicycle to be registered solve any en-US of these issues? How about motorists and en-US bicyclists alike use more of what seems to be en-US missing in large amounts these days comen-US -en-US mon sense and courtesy?en-US As it stands, the law is give bicyclists three en-US feet of clearance. That means stay three feet en-US off of the bicycle lane, not drive next to or en-US on the line. Give more than three feet when en-US driving highway speeds.en-USDemocratic socialism en-USoften misunderstooden-USA democratic socialist is not Marxist en-US socialist or communist.en-US A democratic socialist is one who seeks to en-US restrain the self-destructive excess of capien-US -en-US talism and channel the government's use of en-US our tax money into creating opportunities en-US for everyone.en-US Democratic socialists believe that the en-US economy and society should be run demoen-US -en-US cratically, to meet public needs not to make en-US profits for a few.en-US If you're tired of the rich getting richer, en-US consider socialism.en-US13 State Constitution en-US amendmentsen-USThe first two times I saw the amendments en-US published in a local newspaper, I read en-US through the article twice once increduen-US-en-US lously, the second more studiously and took en-US notes to try to understand what was being en-US proposed to no avail. There is no underen-US -en-US standing or reasoning behind these proposen-US -en-US als presented as they are, other than to conen-US -en-US fuse, obfuscate, and trick voters into voting en-US for some things / rules no one wants, and no en-US legislator wants to be blamed for. This is an en-US example of government at its worst.en-US I STRONGLY urge every voter to vote en-US NO on all 13 items. None of these need to en-US be elevated to the level of incorporation into en-US the states constitution, but should be en-US addressed individually by the legislature, en-US where each elected official must take a puben-US -en-US lic stand for or against each item. Vote NO en-US to the process which only serves to benefit, en-US via power and/or money, to a few, and takes en-US rights / power away from the people of the en-US state of Florida. But Ive received thousands of en-US replies from car buyers thanking me for en-US taking a stand against the Unfair and en-US Deceptive Trade Practice of dealer fees. I en-US thought that Id give it another try.en-US SUBJECT: ELIMINATE THE DEALER en-US FEEen-US Dear Fellow Florida Car Dealer,en-US I started in the retail auto business in en-US 1968, about 50 years ago, and I have seen a en-US lot of changes in the way we dealers sell cars en-US and the expectations of our customers. My en-US remarks in this column are made sincerely en-US and with a positive intent toward you and en-US your customers. Im not trying to tell you en-US how to run your business; Im suggesting a en-US change that will reward both you and your en-US customers.en-US Every car dealer in Florida (except me) en-US adds charges to the price of the cars he sells, en-US variously referred to as a dealer fee, en-US documentary fee, dealer prep fee, en-US electronic filing fee, notary fee, closing fee, en-US tag agency fee, e-filing fee, etc. This extra en-US charge is printed on your buyers orders and en-US is programmed into your computers. It is en-US regulated in many states including Califoren-US -en-US nia. You charge this fee to every customer en-US and it ranges from a few hundred dollars to en-US several thousand. Florida law requires that en-US you disclose in writing on the buyers order en-US that this charge represents en-US profit to the dealer. en-US Florida law also requires en-US that you include this fee in en-US all advertised prices. You en-US dont usually do this, and en-US you get around the law by en-US limiting the number of en-US advertised vehicles (as few en-US as one). You also disclose en-US only in the fine print that en-US there is a dealer fee, but en-US dont include in the price. You dont even en-US disclose the amount of the fee. You usually en-US have multiple dealer fees by different en-US names.en-US The argument that I hear from most car en-US dealers when I raise this issue is that the en-US dealer fee is fully disclosed to the buyer on en-US his buyers order. But, most car buyers are en-US totally unaware that they are paying this. en-US Who reads all the voluminous paperwork en-US associated with buying a car? The few who en-US notice it assume it is an official fee like en-US state sales tax or license and registration fee. en-US Those few astute buyers who do question en-US the fee are told that your dealership must en-US charge this fee on very car which is not en-US true. These astute buyers are also told that en-US all other car dealers charge similar fees. en-US This is almost true, but, as you know, my en-US dealership does not.en-US The reason you charge this fee is simply en-US to increase the price of the car and your en-US profit in such a manner that it is not en-US noticed by your customer. This is just plain en-US wrong. Dealers will admit this to me in en-US private conversations and some will admit en-US that they have considered eliminating the en-US fee as I have but are afraid of the drastic en-US effect to their bottom line. By being able to en-US count on an extra $999 in profit that the en-US customer is not aware of or believes is an en-US official fee, you can quote a price below en-US cost and end up making a profit. Or, if the en-US price you quote the customer does pay you en-US a nice profit, you can increase that by en-US several hundred dollars.en-US This extra, unseen profit is even better en-US for you because you dont pay your en-US salesmen a commission on it. Thats being en-US unfair to your employees as well as your en-US customers. When the rare, astute buyer en-US objects to the dealer fee, the right thing to en-US do would be to decrease the quoted price of en-US the car by the amount of the dealer fee. This en-US would have the same net effect of removing en-US it. The salesman wont permit this because en-US he will lose his commission (typically 25 en-US percent) on the decrease in his commisen-US -en-US sionable gross profit.en-US If you dont know me, I should tell you en-US that I dont profess to be some holier than en-US thou car dealer who was always perfect. en-US Although, I never did anything illegal, e Brooklyn Kid is a dramatic story of events which lead a boy to manhood, only to reach not a crossroad, but four crossroads. en-US 10 en-USMen-USany people are surprised when en-US they get their new machine home en-US and someone sends them email en-US with a Word or XL document attached and en-US they cannot open it. en-US Isnt this thing supposed to be able to en-US handle these files already? I often hear.en-US en-US The assumption people make is, if they get en-US a machine with enough horsepower, RAM en-US and hard drive space that it ought to do en-US anything they need it to and, to a degree en-US that is true. But the one thing thats missing en-US is the software (or program) to do the job. en-US Programs that are installed after the en-US operating system is installed (Windows in en-US this article) enhance the system and allow en-US the computer to run at its full potential. en-US What programs we need installed depends en-US on the files that we are trying to open and en-US work with. en-US Many of the files that we work with on en-US the Internet, such as jpg, html and txt files en-US all will open with the built in Windows en-US applications (called apps or programs en-US interchangeably) but other files, such as xls, en-US doc, docx, pdf etc. need programs that en-US specifically handle those kinds of files.en-US en-US The three-letter extension is what identifies en-US to the computer what kind of file it is, what en-US icon to display for it and what program to en-US use to open it. en-US If the program that is required to open a en-US file is not installed on the machine, then en-US the file will be displayed with a generic en-US Windows icon. When you try to open it, en-US the computer will open a screen listing en-US some of the installed applications asking en-US what program you want to use to open it. en-US The computer takes a look at the file, en-US doesnt recognize it so it lists all the en-US programs installed and lets you pick what en-US program to open it with because it doesnt en-US have a clue. en-US Unfortunately, when we see that en-US program list, usually we dont have a clue en-US what to open it with either, for the same en-US reason the computer got stumped: there is en-US no program installed for that type of file. en-US So, that brings us back to the beginning en-US with the question of what programs does a en-US typical computer need installed, on top of en-US Windows, in order to be able to handle en-US most of the file formats that everyone else en-US in the world is using? en-US Why is it that some model machine can en-US already handle certain files and some en-US machines (same model) cannot? And, en-US when you buy a computer, what should en-US you look for as far as bundled software en-US goes? en-US Lets take the last question first and talk en-US about bundled software. Some computer en-US manufacturers have made deals with en-US software vendors to bundle their en-US software with every computer they sell. en-US They, of course, get some sort of commisen-US -en-US sion for including the software in with the en-US price of the machine and, often, its the en-US bundling agreement that has brought the en-US price of the computer so low, but where en-US things get tricky is every computer en-US manufacturer has a different bundling en-US agreement (or even none at all) so every en-US computer comes with different software en-US loaded on top of Windows. en-US What that means is one computer en-US bought from one manufacturer will usually en-US have different software installed than what en-US may be installed in another computer of en-US the same hardware specs (horsepower) en-US from another manufacturer. en-US OK, so youve decided to get a new en-US computer. What bundled software should en-US you look for (above and beyond Windows) en-US that will allow you to do some of the more en-US common tasks without getting the dreaded en-US unknown file type message? en-US Well, the most common bundle that en-US ought to be installed is some level of office en-US suite. An office suite, (such as MS Office, en-US or Open Office), is a package of software to en-US handle Word processing, spreadsheets, en-US databases, etc.; a must-have for productivien-US -en-US ty or if you want to open the common file en-US types like .doc and .xls. en-US For things such as .pdf files (Adobe en-US portable document format) the Acrobat en-US reader can be installed. Adobe Reader and en-US Open Office are free and can sometimes be en-US found bundled with other software or en-US easily downloaded from the Internet. But en-US that is the subject of another column en-US altogether.en-US Sean McCarthy can be reached at en-US 888-752-9049 or en-US help@ComputeThisOnen-US-en-US line.comen-US (no hyphens). 150 SW Chamber Court, Ste 101, Port St. Lucie, FL 34986 (772)301-0123Accepting New Patients Flu Shots AvailableYour child deserves Optimal Care!Monique Mondesir, MDBoard Certied Pediatrician Were Here Day and NightFULL CIRCLE SENIOR CARE 'Why cant I open this en-USattachment?' en-US 12 en-USWen-USith cooler temperatures (hopefulen-US -en-US ly soon) and the fall season just en-US around the corner, many of us en-US want to start introducing color back into en-US our yards. A popular variety that is now en-US widely available at most garden centers is en-US Geraniums. Annual Geraniums are very en-US popular for their wide range of brilliant, en-US colorful flowers plus their foliage is also en-US very attractive. en-US The types and varieties of these colorful en-US plants vary widely from cultivars that grow en-US six inches high to some that grow to be en-US several feet tall. Geraniums need a bright en-US location with at least a couple of hours of en-US direct sun in order to thrive. These en-US wonderful plants also need to be planted in en-US well-drained soil otherwise the plants will en-US be prone to fungus infection and disease. en-US After planting your colorful treasures, en-US you will want to water them abundantly the en-US first few days, taking care to be sure they en-US drain between watering. Water regularly en-US thereafter still ensuring the plants drain and en-US the soil to dry out between watering en-US intervals. When you water your plants, try en-US to avoid getting water on the leaves of the en-US plant as this can lead to possible disease en-US problems. Do not plant geraniums where en-US they will receive their water from a en-US sprinkler system. en-US Geraniums are heavy feeders and if not en-US fertilized properly, their leaves may yellow en-US and drop. There are several options you can en-US use for fertilizer such as a slow release fertilen-US-en-US izer or a water-soluble fertilizer. The slow en-US release fertilizer will need less intervention en-US on your part as some products such as en-US Osmocote and Dynamite feed for as long as en-US six months. Water-soluble fertilizers such as en-US Miracle Gro provide a more immediate fix en-US but will require more frequent feedings en-US about every two to three weeks. The en-US water-soluble feeding solutions are quite en-US safe and there is little chance of burning en-US your plants. en-US There are a couple of things you can do en-US to prolong how many flowers your plants en-US will produce. Probably the single most en-US important solution is to pinch the spent en-US flowers off the stems on a regular basis. en-US This will ensure a season beautiful color. en-US Pinching also has the advantage of helping en-US to produce well-branched and full plants. A en-US good rule of thumb when choosing your en-US treasures is to pick plants that not only have en-US abundant flowers but that have lots of tight en-US buds also. Look for dark green foliage with en-US not a lot of yellow leaves or yellowing at the en-US tips of the leaves.en-US Todays garden tip: If you are growing en-US Crotons in a container inside your home, en-US yellowing, dropping leaves can often be a en-US problem. To avoid or reverse this problem, en-US there are several things that can help. First en-US of all, you should try to keep your plants at en-US a fairly constant temperature. These en-US tropical plants also enjoy a humid, moist en-US climate so misting the plant will help raise en-US the humidity levels around the leaves for en-US optimal growth. Water your plants on a en-US regular basis with tepid water and keep the en-US soil evenly moist. Be sure to provide bright en-US light near a window otherwise the plant en-US may shed leaves if the area is too dark. Also en-US be sure to fertilize once a month with a en-US water-soluble fertilizer. With a little care en-US and TLC, your colorful crotons will thrive en-US for many years to come and will add a en-US delicate tropical fare to your dcor. en-US Joe Zelenak has more than 30 years en-US experience in gardening and landscape. J en-USust for the record, I dont really care, but en-US I love eggs and I think you should, too. en-US The chicken was probably domesticaten-US -en-US ed for its eggs from a jungle fowl around en-US 3200 BC according to Indian history. en-US Egyptian and Chinese records indicate fowl en-US were laying eggs for man in 1400 BC, and en-US Europe has had domesticated hens since en-US 600 BC. I find this interesting because the en-US jungle fowl was not raised for meat, but for en-US their eggs, creating one of our first sustainen-US -en-US able food sources. en-US Eggs are such an amazing food source en-US and often times misunderstood. Let me try en-US to clear up a few facts. Eggs contain the en-US highest quality of protein you can buy. The en-US protein from eggs has an almost perfect mix en-US of essential amino acid for humans to build en-US tissue. It is compared to the nutrition of en-US mothers milk.en-US Egg yolks are one of the few foods that en-US contain natural vitamin D. Egg whites and en-US egg yolks contain 3 grams of protein each. en-US One egg white contains 15 calories and one en-US egg yolk has 60 calories. en-US New clinical studies show dietary en-US cholesterol found in eggs has a modest en-US effect on blood cholesterol. The 2015-2020 en-US Dietary Guidelines have removed the 300 en-US mg dietary cholesterol limit, referencing the en-US fact all available evidence suggests there is en-US no relationship between consumption of en-US dietary cholesterol and levels of blood en-US cholesterol. en-US If you want to keep calories down, eat egg en-US whites.en-US Generally brown eggs are more expensive en-US than white eggs, but that is not an indicaen-US -en-US tion of quality. Chickens that lay brown en-US eggs are bigger than chickens that lay white en-US eggs. It costs more to feed these chickens, en-US resulting in a more expensive egg. en-US Egg cartons will advertise the type of eggs en-US you are buying, so lets look at some of the en-US hype. en-US Since 1950, the FDA has required that all en-US eggs are hormone free. en-US Cage free means a chicken has 120 square en-US inches to move about, but is still indoors en-US with not much room. Free range means en-US chickens have the ability to go outdoors and en-US come in at night, but often times not all en-US chickens will roam outside. en-US Pasture-raised hens will feed outdoors in en-US pastures, consuming a more nutrient-dense en-US diet with an increase in micronutrient en-US values. Certain antioxidant carotenoids like en-US lutein and beta-carotene in yolks can be up en-US to 100 times higher. en-US I personally believe the type of feed en-US chickens eat will affect the taste of eggs. My en-US suggestion is to try different eggs to make a en-US plain omelet and compare tastes. en-US Now here are some fun facts. Chickens en-US have earlobes, and if the color is white, the en-US eggs will be white. If the earlobes are red or en-US brown, the eggs will be brown. en-US All eggs are not the same size in your egg en-US carton either. Rather than requiring a en-US specific size and weight for individual en-US eggs, the USDA has guidelines for egg en-US weights per dozen. en-US You can tell if an egg is cooked in the en-US shell by spinning it. A cooked egg will en-US spin like a top and raw eggs will not. en-US The US produces 75 billion eggs a en-US year, which is 10 percent of the worlds en-US supply. So now youre an expert on en-US eggs. en-US Oh, by the way, to cook hard boiled en-US eggs, place eggs in a one quart pot, en-US cover with water, bring to a boil and en-US take off the heat. Let the eggs cool. en-US Perfect every time! en-US Try this egg recipe that is great en-US tasting and nutritious.en-USEGGS FRITTATAen-USYield: 6 servings en-US en-US Ingredientsen-US 8 large eggs, beaten en-US 1 ounce Parmesan cheese, grated en-US 1/2 teaspoon black pepper en-US Pinch salt en-US 1 teaspoon butter and 1 teaspoon olive oilen-US 1/4-cup half and halfen-US 1/2-cup chopped red pepperen-US 1/2-cup chopped tomato en-US 1/2-cup chopped red onionsen-US 1/2-cup chopped country ham en-US en-US Directions en-US Preheat oven to bake setting. en-US In medium size bowl, using a fork, blend en-US milk and eggs together, add Parmesan, en-US pepper, tomato, ham and salt. Cook for 2 to 3 en-US minutes or until the egg mixture has set en-US slightly. Place pan into oven and bake for 3 en-US to 4 minutes at 325 degrees until lightly en-US browned and fluffy.
