I am a Florida native who grew up on en-US the Treasure Coast, and our district is my en-US home to this day. My family goes back several en-US generations as pioneers of Old Florida. My en-US grandfather was stationed at Camp Blanding en-US where he met my grandmother in St. Augusen-US -en-US tine. All of my great uncles also served in en-US World War II from Florida. My uncle Julian en-US Pfaff retired as a colonel with the Florida en-US National Guard.en-US My mother served as a postulant nun and en-US then a novitiate as a Sister of Saint Joseph at en-US the Saint Joseph College of Florida (where the en-US Tuckaho Mansion now sits). She left the novien-US -en-US tiate before making final vows. My Aunt en-US Marie Nader is a Florida fashion icon and en-US was a legendary designer during Floridas en-US glamour age and continued all the way en-US through her retirement when she sold her en-US exclusive dress shop, the Amavon on King en-US Street in St. Augustine, now the site of the en-US Casa Monica Hotel. She just celebrated her en-US 103rd birthday.en-US What are your professional qualificaen-US -en-US tions?en-US I served in the U.S. military as an infantryen-US -en-US man for four years and in the U.S. Special en-US Forces for two years. I put myself through colen-US -en-US lege with the GI Bill and worked as a police en-US officer and later a special investigator at the en-US federal level.en-US After college I worked as a phone rep in the en-US financial industry, leaving eight years later as en-US an assistant vice-president and banking offien-US-en-US cer for Fortune 500 banks to start my current en-US businesses in insurance and real estate investen-US -en-US ing.en-US I am licensed as an all-lines insurance en-US adjuster in 15 states and can also operate en-US under an umbrella license of various insuren-US -en-US ance companies and firms. I perform insuren-US -en-US ance and damage assessments for everything en-US ranging from residential and commercial en-US buildings, to vehicles, crops, boats, aircraft, en-US and catastrophe and ecological disasters. en-US What is the biggest issue concerning en-US your community right now and if elected, en-US how do you plan on solving that issue? en-US I am very concerned about the problems en-US that have continued in the area for decades, en-US despite fly by night politicians who move to en-US the area to run for office and then leave after en-US being replaced. Neither Democrats nor en-US Republicans have sufficiently addressed the en-US toxic algae dumps which have turned the en-US waterways black, killing fish, birds, dozens of en-US manatees and damaging fragile ecosystems in en-US our estuaries. I am also concerned with the en-US toll illegal immigration has had on the state, en-US in particular working wages and deaths on en-US our roadways caused by illegal immigrants. en-USMark Freemanen-USWhat is your full en-US name and age?en-US en-US Mark Freeman, 69 en-US years old. en-US Where do you en-US reside? en-US Stuart, Fla. en-US Do you have famien-US -en-US ly ties locally? en-US Yes, my daughter en-US and her family. en-US What are your professional qualificaen-US -en-US tions? en-US Experienced doctor and businessman. en-US What is the biggest issue concerning en-US your community right now and if elected, en-US how do you plan on solving that issue? en-US The blue green algae is the most pressing en-US issue. We should watch closely what they are en-US doing in Lee county, and perhaps replicate en-US their strategy, including vacuuming the top en-US layer of algae. en-USBrian Masten-USWhat is your full en-US name and age? en-US Brian Mast, 38 en-US en-US Where do you en-US reside? en-US Palm Cityen-US Do you have famen-US-en-US ily ties locally?en-US en-US My wife Brianna en-USand children Magen-US-en-US num, Maverick and Madalyn en-US What are your professional qualificaen-US -en-US tions? en-US I currently represent the 18th District of en-US Florida in Congress. en-US 3 en-USLauren Baer en-USWhat is your full name and age?en-US Lauren Baer, 37.en-US Where do you reside?en-US Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.en-US Do you have family ties locally?en-US I am proud to be the only Democratic canen-US -en-US didate in this race who was raised in Floridas en-US 18th Congressional District and has en-US long-standing ties to this community. My en-US family has owned and operated Baers Furnien-US-en-US ture in south Florida for more than 50 years, en-US and I owe my success in life to my Palm Beach en-US County public school en-US education. Growing en-US up here, and now en-US raising my own famien-US -en-US ly in this District, I en-US understand first-en-US hand the potential of en-US our community to en-US nurture young peoen-US -en-US ple, provide a good en-US life for working famien-US -en-US lies and care for our en-US seniors and Ill fight en-US every day to make en-US sure we provide that en-US for the people of Florida 18.en-US What are your professional qualificaen-US -en-US tions?en-US I am an attorney and foreign policy en-US een-USxpert, with deep experience in governing. I en-US started my career as a lawyer, working with a en-US team to take the fight to get money out of polen-US -en-US itics all the way to the Supreme Court. I then en-US had the honor to serve for six years in the en-US Obama Administration as a senior advisor to en-US two different secretaries of state and the U.S. en-US Ambassador to the United Nations. I currenten-US -en-US ly work as a consultant for Albright Stoneen-US -en-US bridge Group, the global strategy firm founden-US -en-US ed by former Secretary of State Madeleine en-US Albright. I know how to do the hard, bipartien-US -en-US san work of making our government work for en-US the American people, because thats how I en-US built my career. Through years of working to en-US make our country safe and protect American en-US values, I earned a reputation as a en-US bridge-builder, a consensus-maker -and en-US above all -a doer.en-US What is the biggest issue concerning en-US your community right now and if elected, en-US how do you plan on solving that issue?en-US Healthcare is a human right. In America, en-US every individual should have high-quality, en-US affordable health care, and no one should en-US have to choose between making ends meet en-US and getting the treatment they need. With en-US 72,000 uninsured persons in St. Lucie County en-US alone, and Republicans attempting to saboen-US -en-US tage the Affordable Care Act, healthcare is in en-US crisis in our community. In Congress, Ill fight en-US to shore up and enforce the ACA, expand en-US Medicare and Medicaid access to all Amerien-US -en-US cans, and ensure that the deficit caused by en-US the Republican tax plan isnt used as a pretext en-US to cut Medicare or Social Security.en-USPam Keith en-USNo candidate response to questions from en-US Hometown News. en-USBaer en-USCommunity calendaren-USFRIDAY, AUG. 24en-US en-US Pizza Jam Youth:en-US 6-9 p.m., Minsky Gym, en-US 750 S.W. In 14 en-US years I've lost count of near misses because en-US of improper driving (too fast, too sliw, no en-US turn signal, going thru red lights and stop en-US signs). en-US Wake up folks, you're at risk as well. en-US A couple of years ago I had a near fatal en-US accident because the driver felt that she had en-US to turn now because she was running late. en-US She thought that she could make make it. en-US Guess what she was late now.en-US For those that like to earn discounts and en-US to save your life and life of others there's a en-US refresher course you can take online. If there is no record en-US to look at, you must educate yourself by en-US looking at the background of the candidate. en-US Sometimes it is easy to understand WHY a en-US person would want to go through the proen-US -en-US cess of an election where their personal life en-US becomes a part of public record. Public seren-US -en-US vants who choose to run are few and far en-US between. Usually, unfortunately, there is a en-US motive behind their desire to serve the puben-US -en-US lic. But there are those willing to put forth en-US the effort to represent you. en-US You can follow the money and sometimes en-US that will help you understand who is behind en-US a candidate and whether that is a factor for en-US your vote. Street signs also catch your eye en-US but are not a good idea to choose a candien-US -en-US date. Whatever your passion is, whether it en-US be to clean up our waterways, better schools, en-US limiting taxes or the future of social security, en-US educate yourself before you go to vote, fill in en-US your sample ballot and check on those you en-US are not sure of by asking questions. The problem is that $100 in 1989 en-US is equivalent to $203 in 2018 but they dont en-US adjust the original price for inflation. If they en-US did, they would adjust the original price to en-US $203, reducing the interest to $195. So often when someone moves en-US away they leave their cat behind, in the en-US house or outside, to fend for themselves. We en-US find them under dumpsters, in empty lots, en-US and often wandering around neighboren-US -en-US hoods looking for someone to feed them. en-US Here is a news flash...cats are not self-suffien-US -en-US cient. They rely on their humans to feed en-US them and give them love and attention. en-US They are much safer inside than out, and if en-US abandoned outside will survive as best they en-US can by eating garbage, rats, mice, and gecken-US -en-US os, all of which can make them very sick. en-US Abandoned cats who wander neighboren-US -en-US hoods looking for someone to take care of en-US them often face people who chase them en-US away or worse. Add to that the possibility en-US that they are not fixed, and we wind up with en-US kittens born outside and even more unwanten-US -en-US ed cats. en-US Yes, we have gotten a little better with en-US spay and rescue programs, as well as trap/en-US fix/release programs, BUT, shelters need our en-US help. They need volunteers. Shelters rely en-US heavily on volunteers and donations to stay en-US up and running. Donations such as food en-US and cat litter are always needed, but volunen-US-en-US teers to help scoop out litter boxes, and nuren-US -en-US ture and spend time with the animals are en-US also crucial. en-US Foster families are also needed. Fostering en-US an animal to get them out of the shelters and en-US into home environments, ready for adopen-US -en-US tion, is a great alternative to permanent en-US adoption if you are not quite ready for the en-US commitment of adoption. You might think, en-US "How can I take an adorable cat or kitten en-US into my house and then give them up?" I do en-US it by thinking of myself as their granden-US en-USmother. I love them and take care of them en-US and then hand them over to their forever en-US home, knowing I helped prepare them to be en-US there. en-US Have you considered making volunteeren-US -en-US ing at Dogs and Cats Forever or another en-US no-kill shelter such as Domino's House in en-US Palm City a family activity for you and your en-US kids? Are you retired? If so, perhaps you en-US have a few hours a week to dedicate to volen-US -en-US unteering? How about church or school en-US community service projects for teenagers en-US over 15? Animal therapy is good for the en-US soul, and the animals will benefit from the en-US attention more than you know. It is a win-en-US win situation. Please consider calling the en-US shelter of your choice and asking how you en-US can help. en-US Did you know the Humane Society canen-US -en-US not turn you away if you bring them a stray en-US animal? They are state-funded and they en-US must take the animals brought to them. If en-US you are turned away, please call your county en-US commissioner and let them know. en-US Wouldn't it be nice if more people took an en-US active role in reducing the population of en-US stray and unwanted animals?en-USDrive saferen-USI would like to concur with the writer of en-US the rave concerning "Slow Drivers" in the en-US August 3, 2018 issue. I also have driven in en-US several countries and Americans are by far en-US the worst drivers, mostly because they en-US believe they know EVERYTHING when en-US they really don't. en-US For example, my major concern is when I en-US am driving in the right lane and someone en-US goes flying past me in the passing lane and en-US then IMMEDIATELY pulls over into my en-US lane TEN FEET in front of my front en-US bumper! en-US It is a terrifying and constant experience en-US on Florida's Turnpike. I am sure none of en-US these drivers know that in order to pull over en-US safely after passing, you must make sure you en-US can see BOTH of the following vehicles en-US headlights in your rear view mirror (not the en-US side mirror!) before making the move. en-US I wish we could teach drivers the rules of en-US the road and the traffic laws in such a way en-US that they would not resist learning them. en-US We would all be much safer.en-US Thank you very much. en-UScatch

en-US 8 en-USEarl Stewart is the owner and general en-US manager of Earl Stewart Toyota in North en-US Palm Beach. The dealership is located at en-US 1215 N. Federal Highway in Lake Park. en-US Contact him at en-USwww.earlstewarttoyota.com, en-US call 561-358-1474, fax 561-658-0746 or en-US emailen-US earl@estoyota.com.en-USHen-USopefully by now, all but my newest en-US readers know about the infamous en-US Dealer Fee. If you dont know, its a en-US hidden price increase on the car you en-US purchase disguised to look like a federal, en-US state, or local tax or fee. Its 100% profit to en-US the dealer. Dealer Fee is the generic name en-US for this disguised profit, but it goes by many en-US names such as doc fee, dealer prep fee, en-US services fee, administrative fee, electronic en-US filing fee, e-filing fee, tag agency fee, en-US pre-delivery fee, etc. The names are only en-US limited by car dealers imaginations. Almost en-US all car dealers in Florida charge a Dealer en-US Fee. The dealer fees range from around en-US $600 to as high as $2,000.en-US This is the Florida law that is supposed to en-US regulate the Dealer Fee: The advertised en-US price must include all fees or charges that en-US the customer must pay excluding state and en-US local taxes. The law also requires that the en-US Dealer Fee must be disclosed to the buyer en-US as follows: This charge represents costs en-US and profits to the dealer for items such as en-US inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting vehicles en-US and preparing documents related to the en-US sale.en-US This law is very weak and virtually never en-US enforced. When enforced, it isnt enforced en-US by the letter of the law; it is done to en-US accommodate the car dealers. The law is en-US weak because it requires only that the en-US dealer fee be included in the advertised en-US price. The word advertised is narrowly en-US interpreted to mean one specific car shown en-US in an online, Facebook, TV, radio, or print en-US ad. But what about getting a price on the en-US phone, online, or from the salesman? You en-US dont find out about the Dealer Fee until en-US youre in the business office signing a bunch en-US of papers. The dealers get around advertiseen-US -en-US ments very easily by including a number en-US in the fine print. This number is their stock en-US number that designates one specific car. en-US When you respond to the ad, this car is no en-US longer available (sales people are usually en-US not paid a commission for selling the ad en-US car). The advertisement might say many en-US more identical cars are available. Its true en-US that identical cars are available for sale, but en-US they are not available for sale at the sale en-US price because they are not the advertised en-US stock number car. If you buy one of those en-US exact same cars you will pay from $700 to en-US $2,000 more.en-US The reason Im told that the law is rarely en-US enforced is that the Florida Attorney en-US Generals office is understaffed and too en-US busy enforcing other Florida laws. Im also en-US told that Florida car buyers dont file very en-US many complaints against car dealers for en-US violating the Dealer Fee law. I dont believe en-US that there can be too many other infractions en-US of the law that take more money annually en-US from consumers than dealer fees take from en-US car buyers. Just one car dealer selling 1,000 en-US cars a year and charging a $1,000 dealer fee en-US is taking a $1 million annually from car en-US buyers. Most car dealers in South Florida en-US sell lot more than 1,000 cars annually and en-US many charge more than $1,000 dealer fee. I en-US believe that the reason more complaints en-US arent filed on the dealer fee is because most en-US car buyers dont know that they are being en-US duped. They either dont notice the fee or en-US assume its an official federal or state fee. en-US Dealer often tell their customers that all en-US dealers charge it and that its required by en-US law.en-US The Attorney General also accommoen-US -en-US dates the dealers by not interpreting the en-US law the way it was intended. For example, en-US the law says that the dealer fee must be en-US included in the advertised price. The en-US Florida Senate has ruled that the law en-US requires that the fee be included rather en-US than specifically delineated. But the en-US Attorney General allows car dealers to en-US advertise car prices without including their en-US dealer fee in the price if they mention their en-US dealer fee in the fine print. They also allow en-US car dealers to simply state in the fine print en-US that they have a Dealer Fee but not even en-US mention the amount. To me they are simply en-US allowing the car dealers to break the law. en-US The Florida Auto Dealers Association en-US (FADA) is the powerful lobbying arm for en-US Florida car dealers. Its almost impossible en-US for a Florida Attorney General to be elected en-US without the support of car dealers and the en-US FADA.en-US Lastly, the required disclosure of the en-US Dealer Fee on the vehicle buyers order or en-US invoice is confusing, misleading, and en-US incorrect: This charge represents costs and en-US profits to the dealer for items such as en-US inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting vehicles en-US and preparing documents related to the en-US sale. It should not say costs because any en-US cost that you pass along to the customer in en-US the price of a product is pure profit. A en-US dealer can pass along his utility bills, sales en-US commissions and advertising if he wants to en-US and call it a dealer fee. It should not say en-US inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting en-US vehicles because all car dealers are en-US reimbursed by the manufacturer for en-US inspecting, cleaning, and adjusting en-US vehicles.en-US So, what should you do when you are en-US confronted by a car dealer with the Dealer en-US Fee? Besides LEAVE, here are some en-USsuggestions that may help you:en-US (1) Make it clear from the very beginning en-US that all prices you discuss must be out-the-en-US door prices. This way you dont care if the en-US dealer fee added up front because you will en-US shop and compare their bottom line price en-US with at least 3 competing car dealers. Ideally en-US you should require that they include tax en-US and tag in that price. If you dont they might en-US try to slip in something they call the en-US electronic filing fee or e filing fee and en-US trick you into believing its part of the en-US license tag and registration.en-US (2) The dealer will often tell you that all en-US car dealers charge Dealer Fees and that they en-US are required by law to add the dealer fee on en-US every car they sell. Simply tell them that en-US you know this is not true and you can cite en-US me and other car dealers like CarMax who en-US do not charge a dealer fee. Print out a copy en-US of this article, show it to them, and tell them en-US that you know that there is no law that says en-US he must charge you a dealer fee.en-US (3) As long as you and the dealer en-US understand that the out-the-door price is en-US the price you will shop and compare with en-US his competition, you dont need to be 2201 SE Indian St., Stuart772-221-0627 www.VerticalsPlusStuart.com rf nt nb R E A D E R S 1C H O I C E 2015 2016 2015 2016 Family owned and operated since 1989 Open Monday-Friday 9-4rfn rffbbEnhance your home with the distinctive look of designer window treatments, custom-made and professionally installed for you.nf nf fn ft 2017 2017 C H O I C E R E A D E R S FREE IN HOME ESTIMATEInsured & Licensed #CGC1507642 Custom Pool Enclosures Screen Porches Front-Entry Ways Garage Screen Doors Seamless Rain GuttersScreen Enclosures & More!Let the Sun Shine in. A lot en-US of the problems weve seen in other places en-US involve sober homes, which are homes in en-US residential areas where people live while en-US theyre being treated under little or no superen-US -en-US vision and are transported to and from the en-US place where they are treated. This is a very en-US different model. Patients would be checked en-US in, and they would stay onsite the entire time en-US throughout their entire treatment.en-US St. Lucie County Senior Planner Kori en-US Benton recommended approval of the projen-US -en-US ect with 24 conditions, explaining that the en-US developer had lowered the height of two en-US structures proposed for the facility in order en-US to limit visual impacts from either State en-US Road A1A or the neighboring property en-US owners.en-US Youll see a lot of symmetry in the proen-US -en-US posed development, which consists of four en-US buildings, two on either side with staggered en-US heights that are symmetrical in nature and en-US centered around an arrival area that has two en-US main access points for patients and visitors en-US at the facility, he said. Collectively the en-US development plan represents 214,288 square en-US feet in finished area.en-US Several P&Z Board members expressed en-US concerns about evacuating so many patients en-US without cars off the island during emergency en-US situations such as hurricanes or a nuclear en-US power alert from the nearby power plant. en-US Mr. Dobbins said the patients would either en-US be taken to the closest similar treatment en-US facility or to hotels out of the evacuation en-US zone, but his explanation failed to satisfy en-US Commissioner Sean Mitchell. en-US When we met last month and you said en-US you were going to take them seven hours en-US away to another facility, I had hoped that en-US you would have been more in-depth this en-US evening and have a much more comprehenen-US -en-US sive plan than what youre presenting, the en-US latter said. en-US Mr. Dobbins insisted it was still too preen-US -en-US mature for such plans. en-US I understand, but the reality is they [the en-US developers] really cant answer those quesen-US -en-US tions until theyre at the stage where theyre en-US ready to enter into those contracts, and en-US theyre not ready to do that until they at least en-US have site plan approval and are a little bit faren-US -en-US ther down the road, he said. en-US Since so many island residents had en-US expressed concerns about security on the en-US island and the beach, Mr. Dobbs also highen-US-en-US lighted the planned security features at the en-US hospital.en-US First of all the patients at the Atlantic are en-US either private pay or they have good insuren-US -en-US ance, and they would not be sheriff drop-en-US offs or people referred from the jail, he said. en-US Patients cannot leave until theyre disen-US -en-US charged. This isnt just about keeping en-US patients in, its about protecting them from en-US people coming into the property. All the en-US doors would be locked and there would be en-US cameras and motion detectors along the en-US perimeter. Beach access would be via an en-US electronic gate.en-US Several members of the public spoke en-US during the hearing, with most of them en-US expressing opposition to the planned treaten-US-en-US ment hospital. Fort Pierce attorney Harold en-US Melville said he represented the Sea Oats en-US Homeowners Association, Anacostia and en-US the Diamond Sands Homeowners Associaen-US-en-US tion, all of whose members opposed the en-US project.en-US The reason theyre opposing it is that en-US locating a hospital of any kind is not correct, en-US he said. Its the wrong use to be put in the en-US middle of a residential neighborhood.en-US South Hutchinson Island resident Joseph en-US Cobo concurred with that assessment. en-US We bought residence up here because we en-US wanted a paradise island and this is what we en-US have, he said. A lot of our citizens in Ocean en-US Village love our island, and I think we need en-US to protect our community.en-US Another Ocean Village resident, Jennifer en-US Golder, worried about longer-lasting effects en-US from the potential rezoning to Planned en-US Non-Residential Development District.en-US Its very nice that these people are going en-US to build this facility, but what are the options en-US for us if this facility should not get all the en-US patients? she asked. What happens if it belen-US -en-US lies up? Then you have a piece of property en-US thats in a commercial use, and whats going en-US to go in then? You cant reverse the zoning, en-US so now youre stuck with a commercial propen-US -en-US erty and you dont know whats going to go en-US in there.en-US Aside from economic development leaden-US-en-US ers, only a couple residents spoke out in en-US favor of the proposed treatment facility. Nick en-US Girolamo said the approximately 200 future en-US employees of the hospital would help con en-US-en-US tribute to an over-strained tax base.en-US I believe the Atlantic is an important part en-US of us growing and were known in St. Lucie en-US County for healthcare -Tradition Medical en-US Center, St. Lucie Medical Center, Lawnwood en-US -and we need tax money, he said. en-US Fort Pierce resident Henry Duarte said he en-US heard the worries of island residents but en-US insisted the area needed to grow.en-US I would be for changing the zoning laws, en-US because change is needed, he said. Just en-US because its been one way for so long doesnt en-US mean it should never change. This is not a en-US jail center or a toxic waste center; this is a en-US high end rehabilitation center, and a perfect en-US example of meeting the needs of the people en-US and meeting the needs of the county. en-US Board Member Craig Mundt, however, en-US said building condos on the site would also en-US contribute to the local economy right before en-US making the motion to recommend denial of en-US the application.en-US If you had condominiums on that site, en-US each of those would have a taxable value and en-US their residents would spent their income in en-US St. Lucie County, he said. We appreciate the en-US jobs and everything else, but if we have resien-US -en-US dents, they pay their taxes and they spend en-US their dollars here also.en-US His fellow Commission Member James en-US David Clasby Jr. said he expected to ruffle en-US some feathers right before seconding the en-US motion.en-US I dont know that Ive heard yet the justien-US -en-US fication for changing this over to an instituen-US -en-US tional-like use from a residential, he said. en-US Its almost like the discussions weve had are en-US assuming were going to approve the zoning en-US change, but I dont know that Ive heard en-US enough yet to convince me that its congruen-US -en-US ent with the surrounding area. en-US Board Member James A. To en-US be competitive, the dealer can simply en-US reduce the price by the amount of his en-US Dealer Fee and the bottom line is what en-US you are comparing.en-US (4) Be aware that dealers usually do not en-US pay their sales people a commission on en-US the amount of their dealer fee. In fact, en-US dealers often misinform their sales people en-US just like they do their customers. The en-US salesman who tells you that the all dealers en-US charge Dealer Fees and that the law en-US requires everyone pay a dealer fee may en-US believe it. Sale people who understand en-US that the Dealer Fee is simply profit to the en-US dealer will be resentful of not being paid en-US their 25% commission on it. en-US 11 resh off the 2017-18 Constitutional Revision Commission (CRC), Belinda Keiser, of Hutchinson Island, declared her candidacy for Floridas Senate District 25. Appointed to the CRC by Governor Rick Scott, Belinda stood strong while liberals tried to reduce your Second Amendment Rights. Her steadfast Association. As a member of the CRC, she introduced and championed an amendment to Department of Law Enforcement. The amendment recognizes the importance of permanent coordination, intelligence sharing and collaboration among local, regional and federal partners, in protecting our State against homegrown and international threats. You will see Belindas counterterrorism proposal on your ballot this November along with other proposals she co-sponsored advancing crime victims rights, environmental protections, and elimination of the mistreatment of greyhounds. Now she is taking on the issues that matter most to our fellow neighbors. I am committed to help in cleaning up the toxic algae that I view from my home on Hutchinson Island with a series of practical and workable solutions, said Keiser. With conversations already taking place, I will begin acting on our water Belinda stands with President Trump. Early on in his campaign, she hosted a Women for Trump event in her home and a business roundtable. As an economic development professional, job creation is one of my top priorities. Serving as President Trumps delegate to the Republican National Convention is one of the greatest honors of my career, added Keiser. She is pro-life, anti-tax, opposed to sanctuary cities and against Brightlines expansion through the heart of our community. Her roots in our area run deep. ADVERTISEMENTBelinda Keiser continues to bring her conservative values to the Treasure CoastPaid by Belinda Keiser, Republican for Florida Senate.FI recall about 10 years ago my father and I purchased a small farm on Brocksmith Road in Fort Pierce, said Belinda. The area grew on us and he was very happy there as She is also Vice Chancellor of Keiser University, which has grown in Port St. Lucie over the last 20 years, employing hundreds of our neighbors and graduating thousands of students in nursing, information technology, public safety and business management careers. Keiser University has a statewide annual economic impact of $3 billion dollars and values a free market system to operate without harmful regulations and to be an engine of job creation. Under her leadership, KU has grown into Floridas second largest, not-fordegrees in many of Floridas targeted industries. Nearly 25 percent of the student body are active duty service members, veterans, or military family members. She is a political outsider and a results-proven professional. Belinda has been a gubernatorial appointee to Enterprise Florida, Inc., Space Florida, Inc., Government Inc. (now known as Career Source). Lastly, Belinda enjoys the support and endorsements of the NRA, the Statewide Giorno, former Senior Florida Advisor to the Donald Trump Campaign. forward to applying my conservative values to our local issues, creating solutions here at home and in Tallahassee, Keiser said. The progress bar was en-US moving slowly to the right, and just as I en-US thought the file transfer was just about en-US over, the progress bar jumped back about en-US a third of the way across.en-US The time remaining figure jumped to a en-US whopping 25,464,387 minutes. Consulten-US -en-US ing my trusty calculator watch, I figured en-US that 25,464,387 minutes was the equivaen-US -en-US lent of 17,683 days or 48 years. No, that en-US couldnt be right.en-US As I watched, the number bounced en-US around some, dropping from the en-US incredibly high 25 million mark and en-US dropping to more manageable numbers, en-US such as 45 minutes, 28 and once again 11 en-US minutes and there it stayed for another 45 en-US minutes.en-US I finally got fed up with watching (its en-US like watching paint dry) and shut off the en-US monitor, so I dont know when it actually en-US finished. But when I came back to it in en-US the morning, the file copy was complete. en-US And it didnt take 48 years. But it got me en-US thinking; what is this estimated time en-US remaining business all about, and can en-US that figure ever be trusted?en-US Ive certainly seen that behavior before en-US with other file copy operations, downen-US -en-US loads from the internet, CD burning and en-US other similar procedures, and Ive always en-US taken that number with a grain of salt, en-US but that 25 million figure caught my en-US attention. What is going on with this en-US picture?en-US Well, in order to understand why that en-US number fluctuates so wildly, its necessary en-US to keep in mind that, on any given en-US computer, whats happening at any given en-US moment is not necessarily the way things en-US are going to happen in the next moment. en-US So the estimated part of estimated time en-US remaining is just that an estimate based en-US on the conditions taken at that particular en-US time slice. And what happens, from en-US second-to-second is those conditions are en-US changing. Rapidly.en-US What that means is when the computer en-US starts a file transfer, it grabs hold of a en-US chunk of data and looks to see how much en-US bandwidth is available. Then it bases its en-US estimate of how long it will take on that. en-US But that estimate does not take into en-US account things such as en-US the overhead activity en-US between the device and en-US the computer and how en-US much of the buffer is en-US still available, etc., you en-US know, lots of other en-US technical things that en-US are happening at the en-US same time as the data en-US transfer.en-US Let me rephrase it en-US like this: As soon as the en-US file transfer starts, all en-US the figures the computen-US -en-US er based its estimate on en-US change, because of the en-US dynamic way computen-US -en-US ers do things.en-US What that boils en-US down to is the estimaten-US -en-US ed time for transfer is en-US rarely accurate, because en-US the conditions are en-US constantly changing en-US and cant be relied on, en-US especially when it en-US predicts that it will take en-US 48 years.en-US One question that is bound to come up en-US is: Is this strictly a Windows issue? and en-US to that I would have to say no. Ive en-US observed the same behavior on my Macs en-US as well as other operating systems.en-US So that, in a nutshell, is an explanation en-US for the never-accurate estimated time en-US remaining issue that Im sure weve all en-US experienced at one time or another.en-US I would personally like to see them do en-US away with the estimated time figure and en-US just stick with a graphical progress meter. en-US That would make a whole lot more sense en-US than the arbitrary numbers we get now, en-US and they are easier to read at a glance.en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. How many of you are en-US aware that Florida, too, has a golf trail? The en-US Florida Historic Golf Trail includes 53 golf en-US courses from the Florida Panhandle to the en-US Keys, each built between 1897 and 1949.en-US Floridas golf history is one of the oldest en-US in the nation, with a number of its earliest en-US courses being created as the development of en-US railroads and hotels came to the state.en-US The Florida Historic Golf Trail celebrates en-US this early heritage and features golf courses en-US around the state that are still accessible to en-US public play. Some of the courses have en-US retained much of their historic character, en-US while others have been tweaked or redeen-US -en-US signed.en-US One of the oldest courses on the Trail sits en-US on the southwest corner of Lake en-US Okeechobee. Clewiston Golf Club originalen-US -en-US ly was commissioned by the City of en-US Clewiston in 1928. Construction of the first en-US nine holes, designed by Stiles and Van en-US Kleek, was started in 1929 and opened fro en-US play in early 1930.en-US The course was built to answer the en-US demand from the public for a place to play en-US golf. Before the course was built, golfers en-US played a short, five-hole layout in Civic en-US Center Park in the middle of the town.en-US While the course was designed to be 18 en-US holes, the location of the second nine was en-US being used as the citys airfield and it wasnt en-US until the 1960s that the final nine was en-US completed.en-US If youve ever been around Lake en-US Okeechobee, you will know that most of the en-US land is flat. The land that Clewiston Golf en-US Club sits on was no exception. Captain F. en-US Deanne Duff was in charge of the original en-US construction and used dirt pulled from en-US water hazards to make elevated, rolling en-US greens complexes and elevated tee boxes.en-US In addition to being a great place for en-US golfers to play after work and on weekends, en-US the course became a source of income for en-US the local school children, who earned en-US money caddying and selling the balls they en-US would collect from the water hazards.en-US The course no longer has caddies, but it en-US still has water; elevated, rolling greens, and en-US now a lot of mature trees.en-US I teed it up here this past weekend and en-US had a splendid time. The course has four en-US sets of tees and plays as short as 3,837 yards en-US to as long as 6,444 yards. My group chose a en-US set that came in at just under 5,800yards en-US long.en-US You may think that to be a bit short. On a en-US couple holes it may have been, but more en-US often than not, we found ourselves having en-US to shape shots and work the ball around the en-US course. Every hole has a place in the fairway en-US that makes for an easier approach and it en-US isnt always the most obvious. .en-US I must tell you that you need to avoid the en-US rough. Keep the ball in the fairway or you en-US just may find a lie that you will not like. The en-US ball seems to like to sit down in the rough en-US and there were times when my club simply en-US didnt want to cut through it. en-USVisit one of Florida's oldest courses in Clewiston GOLF en-USJAMES STAMMER en-USSeeen-US en-US STAMMERen-US page 18en-USdesigned by Mr. Bodine, will be on display en-US throughout the event.en-US IGNITE Wrestling is owned by Vero en-US Beach resident Kim Artlip, one of only a en-US handful of women to own a professional en-US wrestling company. Answers Located in the Classied Section The greens are very different than what I en-USam used to. They sit like large bowls with en-US plenty of break to them. If you miss, you en-US will likely be chipping to a surface that you en-US cannot see. The speed of the greens was not en-US lightning fast, but that was namely because en-US of the rain the course has seen. Besides, I en-US would hate to have a downhill putt on these en-US greens if they were much faster. en-US While the par-5s are not long by any en-US measure, they do require an exact approach, en-US especially if you plan to get on the green in en-US two.en-US My favorite hole on the course is No. 12. en-US This par-4 requires a slight fad off the tee en-US and your approach is to a green guarded by en-US water right and a bunker left.
