LUCIE The city council en-US edged closer at Mondays regular meeten-US -en-US ing to a decision on the eventual look of en-US the so-called Floresta Corridor. en-US Brian Mirson, of American Consulten-US -en-US ing Engineers provided an overview of en-US the proposed project, which was envien-US -en-US sioned as either a twoor four-lane en-US roadway. The city council saw a two-en-US lane road as sufficient because there was en-US a desire to maintain it as a residential en-US corridor and not an expansion with too en-US much traffic headed up and down the en-US drive.en-US I think we really did have an amazen-US -en-US ing amount of participation at both en-US workshops, Mr. Mirson said. I think it en-US was very helpful for not just many of en-US you (the council) who attended, but for en-US our staff as well to understand the en-US nuances of what the neighborhood was en-US looking for.en-US Among the challenges are that Floren-US -en-US esta is only an 80-foot right-of-way and en-US has numerous residential driveways. en-US There also is Floresta Elementary School en-US in the area, not to mention a bridge that en-US traverses the Elkcam Waterway and the en-US usual utility lines that have to be navien-US -en-US gated.en-US Multiple public meetings were held en-US on the subject in the first few months of en-US the year, which were heavily attended, en-US and an eventual speed-limit reduction en-US from 40 mph to 35 to get the process en-US started. Overall, the public overwhelmen-US -en-US ingly supported the two-lane option and en-US the speed change was embraced by en-US most, but that there were requests for en-US pedestrian and bicyclist features and en-US how much garbage and mail service en-US would clog the area during those times. en-US Debate ensued over the necessity for en-US roundabouts and access to and from en-USCouncil en-US nearsen-US Floresta en-US corridor en-US decisionen-USBy Gaylon Parkeren-USgparker@hometownnewsol.comen-USSeeen-US en-US SCHOOLSen-US page 4en-US Seeen-US en-US FLORESTAen-US page 2 en-USWHAT A CATCH!en-US MEET MORRIS en-USBE INSPIRED

Neither had I until I did a en-US little investigating. The web page graphic en-US you see displayed above is from their web en-US page, not Costco. Affinity is a separate en-US company that makes their money by en-US marketing products and services for other en-US companies with well-known brand names en-US like Costco. Ive been a member of Costco en-US for many years and my dealership has been en-US a participant in the Costco Auto Buying en-US program for almost as many years. Until en-US recently, I thought that Costco was the en-US authority behind the Costco Auto Buying en-US program and responsible for its implemenen-US -en-US tation and oversightnot soIts owned, en-US operated, and managed by the Affinity en-US Development Group.en-US This revelation came when I complained en-US to Costco about thelack of transparency en-US and apparent deliberate deceptionby en-US Costco dealers that Costco was referring en-US their members to for auto purchases. I en-US spoke to an executive Vice President of en-US Costco, Rick Dergaradebian, who seemed en-US very concerned that Costco members were en-US unknowingly paying higher prices for cars en-US in the Costco Auto Buying Program than en-US the Costco price sheets indicated they en-US should be paying. He had Rick Borg, en-US Executive VP, Program Operations at en-US Affinity Development Group call me.en-US Rick Borg and I had a lengthy conversaen-US -en-US tion, heated at times, about my allegations. en-US I explained to him that I have mystery en-US shopped dozens of Costco approved auto en-US dealers and my allegations derive directly en-US from my discoveries about how they treat en-US Costco members. Im not accusing Rick en-US Borg, Affinity, and certainly not Costco of en-US deliberately deceiving Costco members into en-US paying higher prices than indicated on the en-US Costco pricing sheet that each dealer must en-US have. These prices are approved by the en-US Costco Auto Buying program (Alliance) en-US and I presume Costcosintentis to offer its en-US members lower prices than they could en-US otherwise obtain.Rick Borg and I agreed en-US that most car dealers do not deal honestly en-US and transparently with their customersand en-US they presumably are not dealing honestly en-US and transparently with the Affinity en-US Development Group aka Costco Auto en-US Buying Program either. Rick Borg did say en-US that Affinity does mystery shop its dealers en-US and had found no evidence of deception, en-US but when I asked him how many car dealers en-US Affinity mystery shopped in South Florida, en-US he couldnt answer me. Rick Borgs Affinity en-US Development Group en-US implements the Costco en-US Auto Buying program in all en-US 50 states and state laws are en-US different in each state with en-US respect to Dealer Fees en-US which is the crux of the en-US problem. Rick Borg en-US admitted that I probably en-US know more about the en-US Florida dealer fee law than en-US he didhes correct. He en-US thought a dealer was en-US required by Florida law to en-US charge every customer a en-US dealer fee if he charged just en-US oneNOT TRUE. He en-US didnt know that most dealers in Florida en-US charge multiple dealer fees all by different en-US name and amounts and thats legal. He en-US seemed to know that Florida law required en-US that all dealer fees be included in the en-US advertised price of the vehicle, but he didnt en-US believe that the Costco price sheet shown to en-US customer to induce them to buy was an en-US advertisement. I do think its an advertiseen-US -en-US ment.en-US Rick stated that Costco Auto Program en-US dealers are required to state the amount of en-US their dealer fee at the top of the first page of en-US the official Costco price sheets. He en-US admitted that they dont include the dealer en-US fee in the price. In my experience from en-US mystery shopping, most Costco members en-US never see the Costco price sheet, but take en-US the salesmans word for the Costco price. en-US Ive studied a copy of my dealerships en-US official Costco price sheet and I see no en-US place to list a dealer fee (I do not charge a en-US dealer fee). Rick Borg admitted that en-US Schumacher Chevrolet (who I mystery en-US shopped) did not all listall threeof his en-US dealer fees at the top of his Costco price en-US sheet, only one. I havent seen that price en-US sheet and, as I say, I see no provision or en-US reference to dealer fees on my price sheet. en-US Im not sure how Schumacher Chevrolet do en-US state their dealer fee; in fact, Im skeptical en-US that they do.en-US Rick Borg and I left it that we would en-US work together to improve the transparency en-US and honesty in the way Costco dealers sold en-US cars to Costco members based on the en-US promised price on the Costco price sheet. en-US Here is what I propose: en-US 1. The vehicle price stated on the official en-US Costco Auto Buying Program Members en-US Only Price sheet must be the final out-the-en-US door price plus government fees only. en-US 4 Were Here Day and NightFULL CIRCLE SENIOR CARE both teachers and students for the higher en-USrating.en-US I think the recognition we receive from en-US U.S. News and World Report is positive and en-US highlights our successes and progress, she en-US said. I attribute the success to the hard en-US work, dedication and love that the teachers en-US exhibit, and to the students intrinsic motien-US-en-US vation to do well. en-US en-US U.S. News & World Report contracted the en-US nonprofit, social-science research firm en-US North Carolina-based RTI International to en-US gather data for this years survey. In addition en-US to rating schools on graduation rates, the en-US publication scored educational institutions en-US on high school proficiency test results -the en-US FSA in the case of Florida schools -and en-US how well black, Hispanic and low-income en-US students perform compared to the state en-US average for such students. Secen-US -en-US ondly, we will continue to raise the bar and en-US challenge the students, ensuring that they en-US have every opportunity we are able to proen-US -en-US vide them while being culturally sensitive. en-US What we currently do works, as is evidenced en-US by our scores improving every year.en-US While Clark Advanced Learning Center en-US Executive Director Debra Kohuth failed to en-US respond to an email request by press time, en-US Martin County School District Superintenen-US-en-US dent Laurie Gaylord lauded the school for en-US its success.en-US We are extremely proud of this remarken-US-en-US able achievement by Clark Advanced Learnen-US -en-US ing Center and we congratulate their staff en-US and our students, she said. The Costco Auto Program Dealer must en-US email or fax the final vehicle buyers order en-US indicating the out-the-door price charged en-US the Costco customer plus government fees en-US only on every transaction directly to Costco en-US and Affinity Development Group.en-US The Costco Auto Program Dealer will en-US allow only Costco Authorized Dealer en-US Contacts named in the official Costco Auto en-US Buying Program Members Only Price Sheet en-US to sell a vehicle to a Costco member. Any Costco Auto Program Dealer that en-US receives more than one failing shopping en-US report in a 12-month period will be en-US canceled.en-US I urge Costcos Mark DerGarabedian to en-US personally oversee the changes in the en-US Costco Auto Buying Program. The success en-US of the Costco Auto Buying Program is solely en-US due to the trust Costco members have in the en-US Costco name brand. Costco, to me and all en-US its members, means honesty, transparency, en-US consistently low prices, quality, 100% return en-US policy, and total customer satisfaction. My en-US wife, Nancy, and I shop at Costco frequently en-US and order online. I normally comparison en-US shop price when I deal with other stores, en-US but I know that Costco marks up nothing en-US over 15%. Just this last week I bought a en-US supply toothpaste from Costco for $20 less en-US than advertised on Amazon as Amazons en-US Choice. If Costco has a product we want, en-US we buy it from Costcono place else.en-US Unfortunately, at this time, I cant say the en-US same thing about the Costco Auto Buying en-US Program. Car buyers should shop and en-US compare the Costco Auto Buying Program en-US Members Only Price with at least 3 en-US competing dealers before buying a car. en-US Hopefully this situation will be corrected en-US and this will no longer be necessary.en-USEarlen-USFrom page 3 en-USLibrary, 3008 Avenue D, Fort Pierce. en-US Designed for ages 2-5, this interactive en-US program will have your young ones clapping, en-US dancing, singing and listening to stories each en-US week. en-US For more information, call (772) 462-en-US 2154 or visit en-US http://library.stlucieco.gov en-US or en-US email en-US rovitoa@stlucieco.org.en-US en-US Celebrate Recovery:en-US 7-9:30 p.m., en-US Fairlawn Baptist Church, 3003 Rhode Island en-US Ave., Fort Pierce. Many must be regretting the decien-US -en-US sion to fight against the trains coming by en-US here and the silencing of the horns that en-US would have brought us. Now as these trains en-US approach, they'll keep mercilessly blaring en-US their horns as hard as they possibly could en-US during the wee hours of the morning just en-US remind us of our stupidity and the transfer en-US of wealth to the lawyers' pockets fighting en-US this losing war. You ain't stopping this train, en-US sorry, ain't going to happen. When we en-US sent our children to school many decades en-US ago, nothing came to our mind whether our en-US children return from school or getting shot en-US by a miserable human being.en-US Yesterday I saw a gun show in my neighen-US -en-US borhood and I saw the display of all kinds of en-US assault weapons. I started wondering what if en-US a weapon gets to a wrong person?en-US After the recent Parkland shooting, our en-US state lawmakers are just keeping quiet by en-US not instituting a law to curb gun violence. en-US Also, another State law of STAND YOUR en-US GROUND LAW is plain silly and stupid.en-US God created us and God is the only peren-US -en-US son have rights to take our life away. en-US 8 FORT PIERCE Indian River State Col en-US-en-US lege was named today as a top-ten national en-US finalist for the prestigious Aspen Prize for en-US Community College Excellence, the nations en-US signature recognition of high achievement en-US and performance among Americas commuen-US-en-US nity colleges. Since en-US it is still uncertain whether El Nino will en-US take place this summer, we are leaning en-US towards an average season. en-US It does not matter what the numbers are en-US if your location gets hit by a storm. The en-US time to plan for that potential blow is now, en-US well before a system is heading our way. en-US Not only is it important to prepare your en-US home, but it is equally important to prepare en-US your yard.en-US The first thing you should do as the en-US season begins is to trim all your trees and en-US bushes. One note of caution, never do your en-US trimming when there is a named storm in en-US the Atlantic. The trimmed debris may not en-US be picked up in time and could be potential en-US missiles in the event the storm hits your en-US area. en-US Get rid of any foliage that is dead or en-US might be hanging over your house. If you en-US have any dead or weak trees from last years en-US storms, cut them down so they dont have a en-US chance to do damage this year. en-US Take a tour of your yard and make a list en-US of items that would be dangerous to leave en-US lying around. This list should include patio en-US furniture, loose garden ornaments, small en-US potted plants, yard torches, arbors and even en-US your gas grill. Make a list so you know en-US ahead of time what you will have to move.en-US If you own a swimming pool, you can en-US throw all your patio furniture into the pool en-US to help keep it from traveling across en-US Florida. en-US If you have a shed or gazebo, you might en-US want to add extra tie downs to be sure they en-US will stay put and dont wind up in Kansas.en-US You can start early by limiting what you en-US keep out in your yard during the peak en-US months of August and September. Make en-US your yard as secure as possible, as this will en-US help to reduce potential damage to your en-US home.en-US There are many plants you can put in en-US your yard that are attractive and also seem en-US to hold up fairly well during a hurricane. en-US Hibiscus, Plumbago, Firecracker plant, en-US Ixoria, and even my roses seemed to hold en-US up very well during our past hurricanes. en-US You may also want to consider some native en-US plant varieties such as Palmetto Bush, en-US Passionflower, Azalea Bush, Wax en-US Myrtle, Live Oak and Southern en-US Magnolia. Native plants are used to en-US the high winds that can hit during en-US hurricane season since they have en-US been around our area for so many en-US years. They also add a natural en-US beauty to your yard.en-US If you live near the ocean, en-US planting becomes even more of a en-US challenge because you need to have en-US plants that are resistant to salt en-US spray. Remember that a hurricane en-US can carry the ocean mist far inland en-US with its 70+-mph winds. Plant en-US varieties such as Indian Hawen-US -en-US thorne, Saw Palmetto, Confederate en-US Jasmine, Society Garlic, Daylily, en-US Pittisporum, Oleander and en-US Mexican Petunia can do very well in areas en-US where salt spray can be a problem. Gardeen-US -en-US nia plants also can fare well with less than en-US 25 percent damage and full recovery after en-US one growing season.en-US If you plan on installing any new trees en-US this close to the start of the hurricane en-US season, you should plan ahead on their en-US location. Plant the trees where they wont en-US potentially cause a problem for your en-US structure. Be sure to anchor your trees en-US carefully with ties if they are newly planted en-US to help prevent damage in the event of high en-US winds.en-US As you can see, with a few common sense en-US tips and some good planning, you can have en-US both an attractive and safe yard this en-US hurricane season. Remember, the Atlantic en-US hurricane season begins June 1, 2018. en-US For tropical updates visit en-US http://homeen-US-en-US townweather.net. en-US Joe Zelenak has more than en-US 30 years experience in gardening and en-US landscape. en-US 9 Beware of computer cleaning scams en-USIen-USts a scam. The phone rings, you drop en-US what youre doing and run to answer it en-US and the voice on the other end tells you en-US that hes from Microsoft and that your en-US computer is infected and sending messagen-US -en-US es. And hes calling you to fix it. Or so he en-US says, but the fact of the matter is that there en-US is no one at Microsoft, Google, AOL or any en-US other company out there thats going to call en-US you out of the blue to tell you that you have en-US computer problems. It is always a scam. en-US Always. No matter how sincere or official en-US they sound, it is always a scam! en-US Scammers these days know all they have en-US to do is call enough phone numbers at en-US random and tell whoever answers Im en-US calling from Microsoft to fix your computen-US -en-US er and someone is going to believe them. en-US Not everyone, but enough. If they call 100 en-US people they know theres a pretty good en-US chance that one or two are going to fall for en-US it and thats enough to keep it going. en-US So, what happens next? What happens en-US when a person gets the call and they dont en-US recognize it as a scam? Well it can vary but en-US there are a couple of tactics that they use to en-US convince you of their legitimacy. They may en-US walk you through opening the computers en-US Event Log and showing you thousands of en-US errors and warnings. Oh my, see? These en-US are all signs that your computer is infected en-US they will tell you and then tell you how en-US urgent it is to let them connect so they can en-US repair it. Then they walk you to a website en-US where they can connect to your machine en-US using Log-me-in, Teamviewer, Join.me or en-US some other remote access tool. Once they en-US are connected they continue the tour, en-US showing you normal (but scary looking!) en-US system logs and tools and tell you again that en-US these normal things are signs of trouble. en-US en-US The longer they keep you on the phone the en-US longer they have to work on what they are en-US really after and thats talking you out of en-US your money. en-US Things can really get out of control if en-US they manage to connect with a remote en-US access tool because then you dont know en-US what they are doing to your system. Face it, en-US if you dont know the difference between en-US whats normal in a system vs. whats not en-US then how are you going to tell if the guy (a en-US complete stranger) connected to your en-US machine is helping it or harming it? Will en-US you be able to tell if the software that hes en-US installing to clean your machine is really a en-US cleaner? Or is it a tool hes installing to get a en-US foot in your door for later?en-US Then, when hes finished, hes en-US going to want to get paid. Fair en-US enough, no one works for free en-US but wait a minute, how do you en-US know if he even did anything? If en-US you dont understand what he en-US was talking about or what he en-US was doing and you didnt even en-US call him in the first place, how en-US can you justify paying them? en-US Usually, after they get done en-US cleaning your computer they en-US will hit you with a bill usually en-US running around $300 and you en-US wouldnt believe how many peoen-US -en-US ple fall for it and pay the money. en-US For nothing. Now the scammers en-US have not only your money but also your en-US credit card info. And if they do their en-US convincing just right, you wont even think en-US you got scammed.en-US So, if your phone rings and there is en-US someone on the other end telling you he or en-US she is from Microsoft and your computer is en-US reporting errors, hang up. Its a scam and en-US youre being lied to. You dont need to pick en-US up the phone and call anyone else to ask en-US and no, you dont need to have your en-US computer checked just in case. It was a en-US scammer and he picked your number at en-US random and your computer is not in en-US trouble.en-US Or you can have fun with them. Ive en-US gotten the call several times over the last en-US year or so and I used to play with them. Id en-US act like I was following their instructions en-US but then start screaming that the computer en-US has burst into flames!! when I open the en-US event log. They love that one. Or Ill tell en-US them to hold while I reboot my computer en-US and then come back and check up on them en-US after 10 minutes or so but lately Ive just en-US gotten tired of it and now I just hang up en-US when they call. And thats what you should en-US do too. en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. He can be en-US reached at 888-752-9049 oren-US help@Compuen-US -en-US teThisOnline.comen-US (no hyphens). Reading the book en-US gave Wendy an idea.en-US She approached Childress with the idea en-US that he might donate a diamond necklace, en-US and she approached Sydney Liebman, then en-US Director of Development for the St. Lucie en-US County Health Access Network, or more en-US commonly known as the HANDS Clinic en-US with the idea that shed gather 12 women en-US who would be willing to share the necklace en-US for a year and each of them host events and en-US bring new-found awareness of the clinic to en-US the public. en-US 16 en-USFen-USor Bethune-Cookman University, en-US winning the PGA Minority Collegiate en-US Championship has become a right of en-US spring. If the following scenario sounds en-US familiar, it should.en-US At the 32nd playing of collegiate golfs en-US most culturally significant Championship, en-US the Wildcats captured a record seven-US -en-US enth-straight, and 15thoverall, Womens en-US crown. Meanwhile, the Mens team just en-US happened to notch their third consecutive en-US PGA Minority Collegiate Championship en-US and 10th title overall.en-US The teams from Daytona Beach rocketed en-US right out of the gate and never let off the en-US throttle throughout the 54 holes of en-US competition. Paced by medalist Mackenzie en-US Butzer who had a final round 1-under par en-US 71 (70-75-71 216), the Bethune Cookman en-US Women (297-307-299 903) defeated en-US runner-up University of the Incarnate en-US Word by 27 strokes on the Ryder Course. en-US North Carolina A&T finished third, en-US another seven strokes back.en-US This is overwhelming, said Butzer. en-US This is my last year, and I gave it all I had. I en-US had fun and played easy. Everything en-US seemed to be clicking.en-US Meanwhile, the Bethune Cookman men en-US (286-282-286 854) shot 10-under par for en-US the Championship, winning by an astounden-US -en-US ing 57 shots over Savannah State on the en-US Wanamaker Course. The University of en-US Incarnate Word placed third.en-US For Bethune-Cookman, it was a three-en-US day showcase of extreme command. After en-US closing out the Championship on No. 18, en-US the womens team sprayed the mens team en-US with a water bottle shower that rivaled any en-US victory celebration.en-US It was so fun to see our student athletes en-US end the season like this, said Bethune en-US Cookman Head Coach Danny Forshey.en-US The Bethune Cookman Men were led by en-US medalist Marcus Sundlof, of Sweden en-US (65-70-71 206), who bested his teammate en-US Christian Hovstadius for the honor by en-US seven strokes.en-US It feels great, said Sundlof, a sophomore en-US who overcame a wrist injury at the en-US beginning of the year. We had a lot of team en-US wins, but I wasnt playing well personally. en-US Its great to finish off the year this way.en-US A history of excellence in the Championen-US -en-US ship was the overall theme for each team en-US division winner.en-US Division II was won by California State en-US University-Dominguez Hills for the third en-US time in the past four years. The Toros en-US recorded a 15-shot victory over Lincoln en-US University. Virginia Unions Sergio en-US Escalante took Division II Medalist honors en-US with a 54-hole Championship en-US total of 220.en-US This tournament is always en-US challenging, said Toros Head en-US Coach Ron Eastman. The en-US rankings dont matter, because en-US everyone plays from the heart.en-US Despite starting its golf en-US program just eight years ago, the en-US University of Houston-Victoria en-US won its third-straight NAIA title, and a en-US Division record fourth overall, by defeating en-US runner-up Governors State by 12 strokes. en-US The two teams started the day four strokes en-US apart, before Houston-Victoria was able to en-US pull away. Governors States Matt Contey en-US was NAIA medalist with a three-day total en-US of 222.en-US It was tough competition, said Housen-US -en-US ton-Victoria Head Coach Christi Cano. en-US We had to grind it out for our victory en-US today.en-US For the second straight year, the Mens en-US Individual title was won by the University en-US of Connecticuts Nabeel Kahn, who en-US overcame a shaky start to the Championen-US -en-US ship for a 2-under par final round 70 en-US (75-70-70 215) to win by 12 strokes over en-US both Palm Beach Atlantics Siyan Liu and en-US West Floridas Joseph Stills.Any win is a en-US good feeling, said Khan. I started rough en-US on the first day. It wasnt like an outright en-US win. It was grit.en-US The Womens Individual prize was en-US earned by St. Johns (N.Y.) University en-US sophomore Linda Wang (72-73-73 218), en-US who defeated runner-up Rachelle Orme of en-US Savannah State by nine strokes.en-US In a weather-related quirk designed to en-US get ahead of the heavy rains forecasted to en-US arrive from Mother Nature on Mothers en-US Day, the final round actually began on en-US Saturday, as the teams played 27 holes en-US overall, including the first nine holes of the en-US Championships final round.
