While it is en-US unknown what the price-tag will be for the en-US $5.5M-valued property, the area could be offloaden-US -en-US ed by the end of spring.en-US The buyer is reportedly a South Florida firm en-US that revitalizes real estate, according to City Manen-US -en-US ager Russ Blackburn, who made the announceen-US -en-US ment during the meeting, although few details en-US were available.en-US The property is comprised of 21 acres and 22 en-US total parcels, and the area has been stuck in a legal en-US stalemate since it was purchased by Lily Zhong, en-US who bought the property in 2015 but never built en-US anything on it. Since then, a US Securities and en-US Exchange Commission receiver has been working en-US to sell the land, and reports indicate that it could en-US be turned into an entertainment zone that would en-US include a hotel and possibly expand the draw of en-US the area, which used to be home to a small mall en-US and shops.en-US Many area civic organizations use the Civic en-US Center property for festivals, fairs and entertainen-US -en-US ment events because of its open space and availen-US -en-US able parking, but the Port St. Lucie City Council en-US expressed a desire to see the extraneous property en-US sold by the end of the year. Meanwhile, if the sale en-US goes through, construction could begin on a projen-US -en-US ect by the end of 2019.en-US The potential construction project would doveen-US-en-US tail well with the completion of the Crosstown en-US Extension Project, which would end on the east en-US side of the city less than a mile north of City Cenen-US -en-US ter and thus create a central hub of activity that en-US could be a draw for a variety of possibilities.en-US For more information about the City of Port St. en-US Lucie, please visit www.cityofpsl.com.en-USPort St. Lucie City en-US Center could have buyeren-USBy Gaylon Parkeren-USgparker@hometownnewsol.comen-USPORT ST. LUCIE -The City Council en-US voted 5-0 March 18 to have Port St. en-US Lucie Police Chief John Bolduc amend en-US the citys Memorandum of Understanden-US-en-US ing between the School Board and St. en-US Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara so a en-US city police officer can be staffed on every en-US public school campus. en-US The unanimous vote resulted from en-US much arm-twisting by Mayor Gregory en-US Oravec and Vice Mayor Shannon Maren-US -en-US tin in order to gain Council consensus en-US after Chief Bolduc finished a lengthy en-US discussion on school safety and the meaen-US -en-US sures both the city and the state have en-US taken to improve security in light of the en-US Parkland school massacre Feb. 14. Prior en-US to the mass shooting on the Marjory en-US Stoneman Douglas High School camen-US -en-US pus, the Port St. Lucie Police Departen-US-en-US ment only provided school resource en-US officers to the citys three high schools en-US and the Somerset College Preparatory en-US Academy. In comparison, the St. Lucie en-US County Sheriffs Office already had depen-US-en-US uties in each middle school, K-8 campus en-US and high school campus in the county. en-US Mayor Oravec now wants authorizaen-US -en-US tion from the St. Lucie County School en-US Board to place SROs in all city schools en-US alongside county deputies, but Chief en-US Bolduc says new state funding will be en-US insufficient to cover the approximately en-US $85,000 annual cost for each new school en-US officer.en-USCouncil en-US wants en-US city cops en-US in every en-US schoolen-USPort St. Lucie wants en-US agreement with School en-US Board to have a city en-US police officer on every en-US city campusen-USBy Donald Rodrigueen-USFor Hometown Newsen-USSeeen-US en-US COPSen-US, page 14

It was en-US bought by Vicky and Bud Tillman in 1979, en-US and since then they have maintained a repuen-US-en-US tation for fast and reliable service that has en-US stood the test of time. Many Floridians will en-US always have a love for boating and/or the en-US water, and St. Lucie Outboard Marine works en-US hard to ensure that no beautiful, sunny day en-US is wasted.en-US My husband was an aircraft mechanic in en-US private aviation and when Piper and Cessna en-US were going down and so the opportunity to en-US buy the business came up and he worked en-US with the previous owners and we decided to en-US do it, Mrs. Tillman said. Its had its ups and en-US downs and been good and bad all together. en-US But boating has always been a big deal on en-US the Treasure Coast and people are here and en-US we have one of the finest inlets anywhere en-US through the years, things have changed but en-US its always been there.en-US The company sells and services, Evinen-US -en-US rude, Honda, Suzuki and Yamaha engines, en-US but also performs a variety of other services, en-US from boat repair and electronic installation en-US to canvas, fiberglass and propeller repair en-US and trailer service for watercraft enthusiasts. en-US Mrs. Tillman said with all the new technoloen-US -en-US gies available to customers, that the staff en-US always stays up-to-date on every certificaen-US-en-US tion and has the best-available diagnostic en-US equipment to quickly ascertain problems en-US and determine solutions.en-US Weve all had to learn (how to use) the en-US computer and our guys are factory certified en-US so a lot of our diagnostic testing is done en-US with a laptop, Mrs. Tillman said. Since the en-US 1990s, all the new motors have gone to diagen-US -en-US nostic testing electronically and the guys en-US have gone to schools to learn this and we en-US have three laptops, so each guy can have his en-US own, almost.en-US The company also performs every motor en-US service from regular maintenance to en-US heavy-duty repairs, and the company has a en-US staff of three highly-trained technicians and en-US seven total employees who will do everyen-US -en-US thing possible to make sure your boat en-US receives the best of care.en-US As their website states, We value your en-US love of boats and want you to feel at en-US home. Relax and let us work on your boat. en-US Well get you back in the water as soon as en-US possible. Youll be glad you chose us, and en-US were glad to provide you with wonderful en-US service.en-US And St. Lucie Outboard Marine stands by en-US that guarantee.en-US All the technicians and service personnel en-US are BRP-, Hondaand Suzuki-certified and en-US have more than 60 years of combined expeen-US -en-US rience to offer the best service in Fort Pierce en-US and on the Treasure Coast. BRP provides en-US clean technology for Evinrude engines and en-US Johnson parts and is the only marine manuen-US -en-US facturer to win the EPAs Clean Air Technolen-US -en-US ogy Excellence Award for its Evinrude en-US E-TEC outboard engines. en-US With the improvements to the Fort Pierce en-US Marina and the recent construction of a en-US new private marina, the boating industry in en-US Fort Pierce will continue to thrive, and St. en-US Lucie Outboard Marine will be right there en-US to ensure quality work from bow to stern.en-US Im encouraged, and while there are en-US quite a few big boats at the marinas, they en-US have slips for 25-foot and under so that tells en-USme people are coming back and putting en-US boats in the water, Mrs. Tillman said.en-US St. Lucie Outboard Marine is located at en-US 4750 US Hwy. 1 in Fort Pierce and can be en-US reached at 772-464-1440. But many people dont en-US know that there are authors here that have en-US gained national notoriety and continue to en-US thrill readers with new stories and series en-US every year.en-US One such author is Bette Lee Crosby, who en-US has written 20 books thus far in her career, en-US and recently had a title The Summer of en-US New Beginnings released on the Lake en-US Union Publishing wing of the Amazon en-US imprint. That breadth of outreach has been en-US a big development in Ms. Crosbys life.en-US Ms. Crosby primarily writes womens ficen-US -en-US tion, and she has won about 40 literary en-US awards over her career. en-US The Summer of New Beginnings is a en-US family story about two sisters, one of which en-US is a young girl, who have almost nothing in en-US common. Megan, the younger of the two, en-US takes over her fathers business after he dies. en-US Meanwhile, the older sister Tracy is a wild en-US child leaves town with one of the bad boys en-US of the community, and she comes back with en-US a child as a single mother.en-US Its very much a character-driven story, en-US Ms. Crosby said. The interesting part is en-US that when she comes home with the baby, he en-US isnt speaking at all and its a challenge that en-US they go through trying to find out whats en-US wrong and whats causing this 15-month-old en-US baby not to speak.en-US The story hinges on Megans relationship en-US with a childhood dog and the respective en-US flashbacks of her memories and that fond en-US memory is of her deceased father and his en-US efforts to find the dog after it runs away. en-US While she wanted to leave town to become a en-US journalist, her fathers passing leads her to en-US continue running the business because thats en-US the only part of him that remains, and she en-US doesnt want to give it up.en-US Eventually, because of her kindness, she en-US saves another dog that is close to drowning, en-US and that dog is somehow connected to the en-US childs maladies.en-US Its really a family story and a hearten-US -en-US warming story with lots of angst before you en-US get to the happiness, said Ms. Crosby, who en-US added that she grew up in a southern family en-US of born storytellers. en-US She has been a writer all her life, but from en-US a business perspective in the form of maren-US -en-US keting and advertising and trade publicaen-US -en-US tions. Her friends encouraged her to put a en-US book together, but at the time I thought I en-US had nothing to write a book about. Fast-foren-US -en-US ward a few years and after 20 titles, she obvien-US -en-US ously did have something to write about.en-US Im an avid reader, and I started thinking en-US about it and the stories were just born, Ms. en-US Crosby said. It was a steep learning-curve en-US to go from writing about business and go to en-US writing fiction. The difference between en-US writing for business and writing fiction is en-US that in business the goal is to get to the point en-US and do it quickly; and when you write ficen-US -en-US tion the idea is not to get to the point until en-US you get right near the end of the book.en-US Ms. Crosby has no intention of stopping, en-US and after transferring from the art world en-US and creative design she discovered that love en-US for words that will mean many more novels en-US to come.en-US I was able to paint a picture with words en-US as opposed to art, Ms. Crosby said. Ive en-US been very happy about the fact that once my en-US books got out there with e-books and print en-US books Ive been approached by my agent en-US for audio books, too. I have several audio en-US books now in the works.en-US For more information, visit www.betteleeen-US -en-US crosby.com/.en-USBest-selling author en-US releases new book en-US on Amazonen-USBy Gaylon Parkeren-USgparker@hometownnewsol.com en-GBinformation, call (772) 462-3474 or visiten-GB en-GB http://www.sms.si.edu/SMEEen-US en-US Writers Group:en-US Moves from first and en-US third Thursdays to first and third Tuesdays. en-US 1-3 p.m., Lakewood Park Branch Library, en-US 7605 Santa Barbara Drive, Fort Pierce. Our collecen-US -en-US tive voices are being heard across the state of en-US Florida #enough, #not1more, #never againen-US No parent should ever be afraid to send en-US their kids to school or a movie theater, a en-US church, etc.en-US This is a giant leap for students but weve en-US got miles yet to go.en-USBeware of scam artistsen-USWith a large population of Septuagenarien-US -en-US ans and Octogenarians, come the scam arten-US -en-US ist. Quite a few of us get a good news call en-US from older family members, that they found en-US a way to be useful and make easy money. Its en-US funny because they found out about it in en-US their Spam Folder. They will get paid to be en-US Secret Shoppers and make about $400, just en-US to shop. Then for some strange reason, they en-US all know a person who has made money en-US doing it. The need to make extra cash and en-US feel useful, clouds their judgment, a check en-US for three grand shows up with their name en-US on it and off to the bank they go. On the en-US good news side is theyll quickly share their en-US good fortune news with family. Now its up en-US to us to real them back in and burst their en-US bubble, so they dont lose six grand of their en-US savings, or worse share with friends and en-US start them on the same disruptive path. If en-US you love them burst the bubble as gently as en-US you can and get them to the police for sound en-US advice. They really cant afford to be en-US scammed, which is why it works so easily. en-US Banks will generally waive fees if you go en-US before the bank find out the check is fake. en-US Also warn them about things in the Spam en-US Folder, its there to protect them, Love Florien-US-en-US da but Be Careful!en-USAn opinion on biblical truthsen-USPeople want to believe in a loving God en-US who saves all. Many are taught to say a sinen-US -en-US ners prayer and you are saved, it doesnt en-US matter if you do any bad thing, even willful en-US sinning, and you dont need to do any good en-US thing. This concept is not biblical and wasnt en-US taught until the 1900s. Once saved always en-US saved is a false premise. Preaching a strict en-US message of hard biblical truth is now rare en-US even though the Bible starts and ends with en-US the wrath of God. See Noah in Genesis and en-US read Revelation. Although 75% of people en-US believe it Hell only 4% think they have any en-US chance to go there. Many preachers never en-US mention Hell and avoid the subject at all en-US costs. The feel good sermons of megachurch en-US pastors only say happy thoughts. One says I en-US want to build people up, not tear them en-US down. False self esteem is not a good policy, en-US God does not pass out participation troen-US-en-US phies. Being almost saved is tragic. To be en-US saved we must Believe Jn 3 16, Repent Mt 4 en-US 17, and Forgive Mt 6 12to15, Mt 18 23to35. en-US We must strive to enter the narrow gate to en-US Heaven, only a few ever find it Mt 7 en-US 13and14, Lk 13 23to 30. Billy Graham said en-US 85% of people you see in church you will not en-US see in heaven. 70 % of youth leave church en-US when they leave their parents home. Many en-US are called but few are chosen. Do it right, en-US there is no second chance.en-USA thanks to Hospiceen-USMy husband was terminal. I chose to en-US have Hospice care for him at home. Well, en-US these people are just wonderful. Every one en-US of them. They were so caring. You could en-US tell that they loved their jobs. They also care en-US deeply for the caregiver and offer assistance. en-US Toward the end, they gave him round-the-en-US clock care, sitting by his bedside. It brings en-US tears to my eyes just remembering what en-US wonderful care they gave him. Thank you en-US Hospice. I know there is a spot in Heaven en-US waiting for you. God Bless You. en-USAnother opinion in gun controlen-USWhen fighting a fire you cant put it out en-US by shooting water on the flame. You must en-US shoot the water at the base of the fire. Guns en-US are the flame not the cause. en-US Government has removed God and our en-US flag from the class rooms. Stop and think en-US when this all started. Now the schools teach en-US Islam but do not allow Christianity be menen-US -en-US tioned. I saw a young girl with a T shirt en-US that was printed with the following: Dear en-US God, Why do you allow so much violence in en-US our schools? Signed a concerned student. en-US The answer from God: Dear concerned stuen-US -en-US dent, Im not allowed in schools.en-US Second, it is almost impossible to find a en-US TV show that is not violent. The news is all en-US about who got killed last night. Video games en-US are all about killing things and people. Our en-US kids are taught violence from birth.en-US Parents of the last two generations have en-US let their kids rule the home and the governen-US-en-US ment has prevented the parents from en-US switching them when they misbehave. Staten-US -en-US ing that it might affect them mentally. Well en-US it has. In a negative way. My generation was en-US switched and spanked when we misbehaved en-US and we never went around shooting people en-USand we loved one another.en-US It should be known that of all the assassien-US-en-US nations and mass shootings since the assasen-US -en-US sination of President Lincoln until today en-US that not one was committed by a member of en-US the NRA. Contrary to the belief of many en-US people the NRA is your protector not your en-US enemy.en-US There are 350,000,000 guns in the U.S., en-US millions unregistered. Criminals can get all en-US they want regardless of the law. There is en-US already a law. It is unlawful to commit muren-US -en-US der. Has that stopped them? en-USOut at second Photo courtesy of MaryAnn Ketcham en-USIn Varsity Baseball, the South Fork HS Bulldogs took on the St. Lucie West Centennial Eagles on Wed. The dealership is located at en-US 1215 N. Federal Highway in Lake Park. en-US Contact him at en-USwww.earlstewarttoyota.com, en-US call 561-358-1474, fax 561-658-0746 or en-US emailen-US earl@estoyota.com.en-USHen-USopefully the sales or service en-US experience with your car dealer en-US went well. But, too often, they dont. en-US Now what? The advice I give you applies to en-US all business transactions, not just car dealerships. / en-USYour first step should be to communicate en-US your complaint ASAP to the General en-US Manager or, preferably, the owner. Be sure en-US that you are talking to the real owner or the en-US real general manger. A General Manager is en-US over all employees in the entire company. A en-US general sales manager is not a General en-US Manager. If you cant reach the owner en-US (Many car dealerships are either publicly en-US owned or owned by absentee owners), ask en-US to see the General Manager. Often times the en-US owner or General Manager is not aware of en-US everything that goes on with all of their en-US customers and employees. They might have en-US new employee that should not have been en-US hired or received inadequate training. Or, en-US they may simply have a rotten apple that en-US should not be working there. The ease and en-US speed with which you can meet and speak en-US to a General Manager or an owner is a en-US pretty good measure of the integrity of the en-US company as whole. If the owner or General en-US Manager cares enough about her customers en-US to allow total access, it is probably a very en-US good place to do business. In fact, it is a en-US good idea to find this out before you do business. / en-USIf you cannot reach the owner or General en-US Manager, contact the manufacturer who en-US franchises the dealership. Car dealers have en-US a contract with the manufacturer called a en-US franchise agreement and this contractual en-US agreement requires that they treat their en-US customers with courtesy, efficiency and en-US integrity. Most manufacturers have a en-US customer hotline that allows you to call and en-US register a complaint directly. The owner or en-US General Manager of the dealership will be en-US made aware of your complaint. As you en-US might guess, the manufacturer has quite of en-US bit of clout with their dealer. If a dealer does en-US not live up to his side of the contract, his franchise could be canceled or not renewed. / en-USThe third step I recommend, if numbers en-US one and two dont work, is to contact a en-US consumer agency like The Better Business en-US Bureau or the County Office of Consumer en-US Affairs. These agencies will send your en-US complaint to the dealership and request a en-US written reply. No car dealership or business en-US wants an unanswered complaint in the file en-US of a governmental or private consumer en-US agencyen-US The 4th step is to call the Florida en-US Department of Motor Vehicles, en-US DMV, and/or the Florida Attorney en-US Generals office. These are extreme en-US steps to be used for serious, even en-US illegal, activities. The DMV has the en-US power to suspend or cancel a dealers en-US motor vehicle retail license, putting en-US him out of business. The Attorney en-US Generals Office can file criminal en-US charges and assess large fines, even en-US jail terms. The DMV phone number en-US is (850) 617-2000 and the Attorney en-US Generals phone number is 866-9667226. / / This website provides you en-USwith three forms to downloaden-US from the Florida Attorney General, en-US Florida Department of Motor Vehicles, and en-US the Florida Office of Consumer en-US Affairs,www.FloridaCarDealerComplaints.en-US com.en-US Your last resort is to contact an attorney. en-US I list this last because hiring an attorney just en-US about eliminates the possibility that you can en-US quickly, amicably and inexpensively resolve en-US your differences with the car dealer. Be very en-US careful which attorney you choose. Try to en-US choose one that is primarily interested in en-US helping you and not in generating large fees en-US for him. Under the Florida Deceptive and en-US Unfair Trade Practices Act, an attorney is en-US entitled to his fees and costs from the en-US defendant in a lawsuit if he wins. These fees en-US can be much larger than the amount of en-US your claim, motivating an unethical en-US attorney to spend more time than is needed en-US and dragging out a case to generate more en-US fees than are necessary. This can be very en-US dangerous for you because the car dealers en-US attorneys fees run roughly parallel to your en-US lawyers and you can be held liable for those if you lose the case. / However, there are en-UShonest and talented consumer advocate en-US attorneys that will counsel with you at no en-US charge. They will tell you whether or not en-US you have a lawsuit you can win. If you do, en-US the car dealer will pay your attorneys fee.en-US Hopefully you never have to resort to the en-US final step of hiring a lawyer. In trying steps en-US one, two, three and four try to present your en-US complaint as concisely and politely as en-US possible. You have every right to be angry en-US when you are taken advantage of, but try to en-US let your anger subside before you speak to en-US or write to someone about your problem. en-US We all react negatively to someone who is en-US profane, raises his voice, or is sarcastic. en-US Your goal of communicating and resolving en-US your complaint is best reached by commuen-US -en-US nicating clearly, politely and concisely. en-US 12 en-USTREASURE COAST A new tool should en-US help county health organizations to study en-US factors that influence health. The Florida en-US Department of Health has recently tapped en-US the 2018 County Health Rankings & Roaden-US -en-US maps tool released by the University of Wisen-US -en-US consin and the Robert Wood Johnson Founen-US -en-US dation for its established data, which is en-US available at en-US www.FLHealthCHARTS.comen-US.en-US The County Health Rankings contain 35 en-US measures used to calculate how St. Lucie en-US ranks across the State of Florida relative to en-US the health measures in the reports, said en-US Clint Sperber, Health Officer and Adminisen-US -en-US trator of the Florida Department of Health en-US in St. Lucie County in a press release. This en-US year it is quite evident, that St. Lucie has en-US seen progress where we have moved from en-US the third quartile to the second quartile en-US regarding our health outcomes and quality en-US of life for our residents. en-US Martin County officials said the data is en-US valuable in a variety of areas.en-US This is not a Health Department ranken-US -en-US ing, its a community ranking, so what this en-US tells me first of all is that we have parten-US-en-US nerships and collaborations that are good en-US and solid that are leading to some of these en-US positives, said Karlette Peck, Health Officer en-US for the Florida Department of Health in en-US Martin County. We are doing very well, en-US usually, in the top five but if you look at the en-US report you can see that its not simply en-US healthy behaviors but its access to health en-US care.en-US These rankings are a snapshot of the en-US health of counties across the country and en-US they emphasize that health is not a singular en-US effort but a combined work in progress en-US across all community partners, according en-US to a press release. The department works in en-US collaboration with local governments, en-US non-profit organizations, health care facilien-US -en-US ties, business groups, schools, faith-based en-US organizations and many other stakeholders en-US to improve the health of all people in St. en-US Lucie County. These rankings use data relaten-US-en-US ed to physical environments, social and ecoen-US -en-US nomic factors, health behaviors and clinical en-US care.en-US In St. Lucie and Martin counties, the en-US Community Health Improvement Plan en-US (CHIP) addresses specific opportunities for en-US improved health that have been identified en-US by the community. The department has en-US partnered with many stakeholders to impleen-US-en-US ment the CHIP and collaborates regularly to en-US track progress. en-US Under the direction of Healthy St. Lucie, en-US Inc., plans and activities have been develen-US -en-US oped that are improving the health of the en-US county, according to the Department of en-US Health. Some of these activities include the en-US 2018 Billion Step Challenge to increase en-US physical activity and reduce obesity, the en-US Baby Steps Baby Friendly initiative to en-US increase breastfeeding among new mothers en-US giving births in our hospitals, the Safety Vilen-US-en-US lage program to improve injury prevention en-US efforts, the Fetal Infant Mortality Review en-US initiative to decrease infant mortality, and en-US Tobacco Cessation Action Plan and Stuen-US-en-US dents Working Against Tobacco to decrease en-US smoking rates in St. Lucie County.en-US Meanwhile, in Martin County, at the en-USfacility based in the Golden Gate neighboren-US -en-US hood in Stuart, the center has become a hub en-US for programs that enhance health and supen-US -en-US port life skills. The Health Department en-US offers school age Immunizations, HIV/STD en-US testing, Hepatitis C testing, Family Planning en-US and Nutrition/Cooking classes at the Golden-US -en-US en Gate Center. A complete schedule of proen-US-en-US grams is available here:en-US http://hohmartin.en-US org/golden-en-USgate-calendaren-US .en-US Bringing partners together in a unified en-US effort is the foundation for our work. said en-US Rob Ranieri, Chief Executive Officer for the en-US House of Hope. The Golden Gate Center en-US provides us with a unique opportunity to en-US meet people where they live and work. en-US Through our many partnerships, we can en-US offer the community life changing programs en-US that support health, build life skills and supen-US -en-US port overall well-being.en-US Youll also see that there is an economic en-US piece of that with unemployment rates and en-USpoverty rates, etc. Its really a comprehensive en-US picture of the community and it is importen-US -en-US ant that you compare and benchmark youren-US -en-US self to other places because if there are issues en-US that need to be addressed by looking at en-US these rankings you can sort of benchmark en-US against each other to see whos doing well in en-US one area and whos not doing well and pick en-US up the phone and say, How come youre en-US doing so well in this area? Ms. Peck added. en-US But this is not a measure of the Health en-US Department, its a measure of the entire en-US community and we have that advantage of en-US having a community thats very engaged.en-US This is clearly done by a group that has en-US no connection whatsoever to the Florida en-US Department of Health, and the same criteria en-US are used, nationally, for every county and its en-US a standardized approach and an objective en-US overview of each county.en-US St. Lucie county officials expressed simien-US -en-US lar sentiments.en-US There are areas of progress, and we are en-US reaping the rewards of many of our en-US long-standing partnerships and support of en-US countywide health initiatives with numeren-US -en-US ous agencies, including government, faith-en-US based organizations and community en-US non-profits. Together we have made great en-US strides; I am confident we will continue our en-US forward movement in a positive direction, en-US said St. Lucie County Commission Chairen-US -en-US person, Frannie Hutchinson.en-US To explore more health indicators in your en-US county, visit en-US www.FLHealthCHARTS.comen-US.en-US Follow the department on Twitter at @en-US HealthyFla and on Facebook. With a laptop you have the en-US freedom to leave your home (or office) en-US entirely and still have the full blown en-US computer power that you would expect to en-US have with a desktop machine. And with en-US free wireless hot spots popping up all en-US over the place the possibilities are endless en-US you can get the same amount of work en-US done that you would expect to get done if en-US you were confined to a desk all day from en-US places like coffee shops, airports, the en-US lobby of a fine hotel or even (if you live in en-US a gated community) down at the cluben-US -en-US house by the pool! en-US But (as is true with all good things) en-US there are a few gotchas that you have to en-US be aware of if you decide to take your en-US machine out on the road. en-US One issue that causes a fair amount of en-US confusion for the budding road warrior en-US is the inability to send email from on the en-US road. Receiving mail is usually not a en-US problem but the inability to send mail en-US when you are on a connection other than en-US your home network is a complaint that I en-US used to hear quite a bit. en-US Now, not everyone has this problem. en-US There are plenty of people out there who en-US are able to use their laptops wherever en-US they want and sending isnt a problem but en-US there are others who (try as they might) en-US cant send an email when away from en-US home to save their life. The answer en-US usually lies in what email service their en-US system is set up to use when the mail fails en-US to send versus the email services that en-US works no matter where they are. en-US Confused? Lets back track a bit and en-US talk about the typical home internet en-US service and whats included. When you en-US sign up for internet service for your home en-US one of the things that you get with that en-US service is an email address. Your Internet en-US Service Provider (ISP) gives you access to en-US the internet from home and sets up a en-US username which typically becomes your en-US email address. Then your email program en-US (Outlook, Windows Live Mail, Outlook en-US Express, etc.) gets set up with your en-US username, password, POP and SMTP en-US settings. Now the POP settings en-US (POP=Post Office Protocol) are the en-US settings that tell your email program en-US from where on the internet your incomen-US -en-US ing mail can be retrieved and the SMTP en-US settings (SMTP=Simple Mail Transfer en-US Protocol) tells your mail program where en-US on the internet your outgoing mail needs en-US to go when you click the en-US Send button. The en-US problem sending mail en-US usually lies with the en-US SMTP settings. en-US You see, Internet en-US Service Providers take en-US SPAM (junk email) very en-US seriously and in an en-US effort to try to thwart en-US SPAM, some providers en-US will prohibit relaying en-US outgoing mail through en-US their SMTP servers. en-US What this means is that en-US when an outgoing mail en-US message is being sent en-US from within their en-US network, it goes along en-US without a hitch. But en-US when you try to use en-US your machine in a network that is en-US different than the network you use at en-US home (maybe your home network is en-US AT&T and the coffee shop you are trying en-US to send email from is Comcast for en-US example) then the SMTP server rejects en-US the outgoing mail because its not en-US originating from within its network but en-US from some other network. The message en-US gets blocked as part of the service en-US providers efforts to thwart SPAM. en-US So what do you do? And why is it some en-US people have no problem sending mail and en-US others cant? en-US Well, many ISPs have a different SMTP en-US address for people when they are on the en-US road but one of the easiest ways to work en-US around this issue is to set up a free web en-US based email service like Gmail so it en-US doesnt matter where you are when you en-US try to send email. With an email services en-US like Gmail you can set up your SMTP en-US settings in your email program to point en-US to Gmails server and bypass your ISPs en-US SMTP settings altogether. Its a simple fix en-US and using a web based email service also en-US lets you keep using the same email en-US address even if you move or change en-US internet service providers. But thats a en-US whole other issue altogether.en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. He can en-US be reached at 888-752-9049 or en-US help@en-US ComputeThisOnline.com en-US (no hyphens). House Bill 5001 funding en-US -our Safe Schools allocation for the St. en-US Lucie County School District -is $2.1 milen-US -en-US lion with roughly $1.2 million of that being en-US allocated for additional SROs. The bottom en-US line is its going to cost us about $2.9 million en-US to cover Senate Bill 7026. The additional en-US funds provided by the Legislature were $1.2 en-US million, so the shortfall for the county will en-US be $1.7 million.en-US That fact worried council members Jolien en-US Carballo and John Carvelli, with the latter en-US expressing the need for open dialogue with en-US all the stakeholders to decide who would be en-US financially responsible for what portion of en-US school security.en-US I think we could get very emotional en-US about this, but the cost will get excessive, en-US Councilman Carvelli said. What we dont en-US want to do is fund the police and then the en-US moneys pulled back and used somewhere en-US else.en-US Councilwoman Carballo concurred, en-US emphasizing the need to avoid duplication en-US of services. en-US For me, I want to get more into the meat en-US and potatoes of the issue in regards to school en-US safety, she said. There are a lot of partneren-US -en-US ship programs that the school system is en-US going to need, so I do kind of want some en-US information. Maybe we can help out with en-US the drills or other support mechanisms that en-US we need. I just want to make sure were not en-US duplicating services that may not be needen-US-en-US ed.en-US Mayor Oravecs tone began to change en-US upon hearing concerns about finances and en-US stepping on other stakeholders toes.en-US To hear it get taken into this and that and en-US how were worrying about offending and its en-US going to cost money, I got to tell you that Im en-US about as frustrated as Ive ever been up en-US here, he said. en-US Vice-Mayor Martin said she understood en-US the mayors position completely. en-US Were up here to talk about the policy so en-US that policy can be given to our Police Chief en-US so he can have those conversations with en-US everyone that he needs to have, and then we en-US can talk about the plan later, she said. en-US Youre right we dont need to get in the nits en-US of it, we dont need to get into the meat and en-US potatoes, I think weve given pretty clear en-US direction already. If safetys our number one en-US priority, then everyone of us up here should en-US be willing to say lets fund it.en-US City Manager Russ Blackburn then en-US attempted to broker a consensus by providen-US -en-US ing a different description of the task at en-US hand.en-US Im wondering if policy is the right en-US word, he said. Rather than the word policy, en-US the Council might want to consider princien-US -en-US ple. So giving your staff the direction, wed en-US follow two principles: one is that while were en-US advocating and working with the School en-US Board that thered be a school resource offien-US -en-US cer in every publicly funded school; the en-US other principle is that those be Port St. Lucie en-US officers. en-US Vice-Mayor Martin flatly rejected that en-US proposal.en-US Why not just be strong and do the policy en-US because thats what we do up here, she said. en-US Were the policy-makers, not princien-US -en-US ple-makers. Weve been very clear how we en-US have to work with the School Board and the en-US Sheriff. Im not afraid of making tough decien-US -en-US sions and making a policy and standing en-US behind it. I dont want to hear about princien-US -en-US ples and stepping on toes.en-US Councilwoman Carballo insisted she just en-US wanted all members of the Council on the en-US same financial page.en-US If everybodys in the same place where en-US were going to find the money -no matter en-US what -thats just want I wanted to make en-US sure, she explained. I want to make sure en-US that we are cognizant that theres going to en-US have to be money that follows that policy en-US and were okay with it. Thats what I was tryen-US -en-US ing to get clarification on in the beginning.en-US Councilman Carvelli then suggested en-US amending the citys current Memorandum en-US of Understanding between the School Board en-US and the sheriff to include the use of city en-US police officers.en-US If we can get the MOU back and alter it en-US -if the parties agree -Ill support this, he en-US said. We did prepare the conen-US -en-US demnation to be used; however, the Fire en-US Department lifted their cease and desist as en-US of today. The building is in much better en-US shape than it was the other day, but theres a en-US whole new series of violations that have en-US occurred to do that. The best I can tell you en-US right now is that the interior of the store is en-US safe again: People can get out if there was an en-US emergency.en-US Ms. Arraiz emphasized that the landownen-US -en-US er who leases the property to Family Dollar en-US has responded to the city but is not responen-US -en-US sible for the code violations, which have en-US been going on since before the business en-US relocated to its new building from its previen-US -en-US ous location at 2210 Orange Ave.en-US This has been a chronic en-US code problem since before en-US they moved, she explained. en-US We had a problem with en-US code enforcement at their en-US old location and it moved en-US with them. It did not get any en-US better. en-US The latest violations en-US include the un-permitted en-US use of a container to house en-US boxes of merchandise previen-US-en-US ously blocking the isles and en-US failure to get a permit to en-US replace sign damaged en-US during the last hurricane en-US season, she added. Mr. Mimms expressed en-US exasperation on the part of the city and en-US blamed the problem on a lack of pride in the en-US community.en-US I dont know if its corporate, I dont en-US know if its the onsite manager, but this canen-US -en-US not continue, he said. We need to push en-US with every type of code enforcement action, en-US whether its a nuisance designation or were en-US going to the Special Magistrate for some en-US type of corrective action, but this cannot en-US continue. Our community deserves better en-US than this.en-US Commissioner Rufus Alexander said hed en-US visited the store himself and was shocked at en-US the conditions inside. en-US The next time something like that hapen-US -en-US pens, we need to send our Deputy Chief en-US down to handcuff them for litter, he said to en-US laughter on the dais. Thatll stop the nonen-US-en-US sense.en-US Other communities across the nation en-US have also experienced similar problems en-US with the store chain, even attracting the ire en-US of the federal government. The Occupationen-US -en-US al Safety and Health Administration cited a en-US Bridgeport, Conn. Family Dollar store en-US $72,000 in 2011 for serious violations of en-US workplace safety standards, including haven-US-en-US ing the emergency exits blocked by boxes of en-US unopened merchandise. OSHA also fined en-US the chains parent company, Chesapeake, en-US Virginia-based Dollar Tree, $825,000 in en-US2015 for the same problems throughout the en-US organization. The company operates 2,400 en-US stores under the brands Dollar Tree, Dollar en-US Tree Canada, Deals and Family Dollar. Dolen-US-en-US lar Trees settlement with OSHA that same en-US year required third party oversight for two en-US years and the implementation of control en-US measures to prohibit the stacking or storing en-US of materials or equipment in a way that en-US would block or obstruct access to emergenen-US-en-US cy exits. en-USCity condemns Family Dollar storeen-USOfficials say Orange en-US Avenue location en-US problematic since en-US opening By Donald Rodrigue en-USFor Hometown News RANTS & RAVES en-GBHave something you need to get en-GB off your chest or want to praise?en-GB en-GBSHOUT IT OUT en en-GB in The Hometown Newsen-GB en-GB Rants & Raves section.en-GBEmail your Rant or Rave to:en-GBnewsfp@hometownnewsol.com

Modern en-US mulch products can come in a variety of en-US colors including red, brown and even en-US black. Many of these mulch products are en-US made from trees that are rapidly being cut en-US down faster then they can be replanted. en-US There are, however, other options that you en-US can use for groundcovers that are both en-US attractive and also will maintain a natural en-US look in your landscape environment.en-US Mulching is primarily done for two en-US reasons. One is for appearance and the en-US other is to maintain good soil health. The en-US latter is the most important reason to en-US mulch your yard. If you look around your en-US environment, you can find many natural en-US and virtually free resources you can use en-US for mulching around your favorite en-US flowerbed. You can use pine needles, pine en-US bark, peanut shells, straw or hay or even en-US crushed rock. If you live on a wooded lot en-US or have lots of trees on your property, you en-US can purchase a chipper and turn your en-US trimmings into a useful groundcover. en-US Many construction areas use chippers to en-US turn the cleared trees into a mulch piles en-US that you can pick up for free. In short, use en-US your imagination. Any natural organic en-US material can potentially be recycled and en-US used as mulch.en-US Many people mulch their yards solely en-US for appearance but the reasons for en-US mulching go much deeper then that. en-US Mulch can dramatically lessen the impact en-US of high soil temperatures on your plants. en-US A two-inch layer of organic mulch can en-US lower the temperature of the soil by 30 en-US degrees or more. It also helps the soil to en-US maintain more even moisture content by en-US preventing water evaporation. Mulch also en-US helps to shade out weeds from your en-US garden. By keeping at least a 2-inch en-US covering of mulch in your garden, weeds en-US cannot receive enough light to grow and en-US the few that do survive can be easily taken en-US out. en-US Here is a great tip you can use before en-US laying down your mulch. Prepare the area en-US first by laying down a layer of wet en-US newspapers. This not only gives you a en-US good base for laying your mulch but it will en-US also give you an extra barrier of weed en-US protection. It also helps do the double en-US duty of recycling your old newspapers. en-US Best of all, it costs next to nothing to do! en-US The paper will decompose in the soil and en-US will also allow water to pass through en-US easily.en-US Another great way to save money and en-US reuse natural resources is to build a en-US compost pile. You can do this by either en-US using a compost bin or you can build the en-US pile right on the ground. It would be wise en-US to locate your compost pile as far from en-US your home as possible so the bugs that en-US help decompose your organic materials do en-US not get into your structure. Using a en-US compost bin can have the advantage of en-US keeping critters out of your pile and also en-US helps to maintain moisture and keeps the en-US compost from blowing around your yard. en-US There are basically two ways you can en-US build your compost pile. If you want the en-US process to be as fast as possible, you will en-US need to follow a few extra steps. You en-US should first wet the area under the en-US compost pile and also put some twigs on en-US the bottom of the pile. You will then want en-US to alternate materials. You need alternaten-US -en-US ing layers of nitrogen, which would be en-US grass clippings, and you also need en-US carbons, which would include leaves, hay en-US and dried straw. As you layer your en-US compost pile always moisten the pile with en-US some water. en-US If you dont have the patience to do this en-US layering process, you can also just add any en-US organic materials such as leaves, grass or en-US dried hay into your pile at your own en-US convenience and add water to keep the en-US pile moist. Keep in mind that doing it this en-US way will result in a slower decomposing en-US process. en-US When the compost is ready, the end en-US material will look almost like humus or en-US good grade topsoil. The entire process can en-US take anywhere from a few months to over en-US a year depending on which method you en-US choose to use. The finished product can en-US then be used on your plants or lawn in en-US place of chemical based fertilizers. en-US Send e-mails to en-UShometowngarden@en-US gmail.com en-US or visit his website en-US www.en-US hometowngarden.com. en-US 24 en-USAen-USfter months of delays, the moment en-US finally came. On Saturday, March en-US 11, Florida Club in Stuart re-opened en-US for business. The course closed over 10 en-US months ago for a complete overhaul and en-US refurbishment and locals have been en-US chomping at the bit to stick a tee in the en-US ground and play the course.en-US Based on the response from the golfers I en-US spoke with as they played or finished their en-US round, the wait may have been long, but it en-US was well worth it.en-US Beautiful, fun, so much better, I love it, en-US were just a few of the accolades I heard. The en-US tee sheet reflects it as well, as the course has en-US been nearly full each day and the restaurant en-US is also hopping.en-US The timing of the opening worked out en-US well for those golfers wanting to keep up en-US with the NCAA Basketball Championship en-US Tournament. As players finished their en-US rounds or before they started, the televien-US -en-US sions were tuned to the games. The en-US restaurant had a good crowd enjoying cold en-US beverages and excellent food.en-US "We are thrilled with the feedback we en-US have been receiving, said head professional en-US Brendan Murphy. I am very proud of my en-US staff and the professional service we are en-US providing.en-US Soon, it was my turn to play the course en-US for the first time in a couple of years. My en-US best friend and colleague, Dan Shube, en-US joined me. en-US The first thing we noticed was how much en-US more room there is off all over the course. en-US Where there used to be palmettos and other en-US scrub pinching the fairways, or intimidaten-US -en-US ing your approach, there is now groomed en-US rough now and chipping areas. The new en-US rough is also a lot easier to play from and en-US the ball doesnt seem to settle down like it en-US does in Bermuda grass. There is no en-US shortage of bunkers, as I found one on en-US seven of my first nine holes. en-US Nowhere on the course is there a better en-US example of how open the course has en-US become than at the par-4 12th. This long, en-US severe dogleg right begs you to take a short-en-US cut over the waste area and wetland down en-US the right side. If you bite enough off, you en-US are rewarded with a shorter approach from en-US a better angle. In the past, there were en-US several tall pines to navigate around, as well en-US as a lot of scrub. It was difficult to see the en-US fairway across and the tee shot could be en-US quite intimidating. These have all been en-US removed and the view allows you to pick en-US your line much more easily.en-US Today, with golf balls that go a long way en-US and clubs that assist that, the best way to en-US defend a course that you cannot add a lot of en-US length to is to make putting and chipping a en-US challenge. en-US The greens at Florida Club are larger and en-US feature more undulation. A lot more en-US undulation. We had some putts and chips en-US that broke as much to the left or right as en-US they had to travel to get to the en-US hole. I think we may have en-US found where Jimmy Hoffas car en-US was buried. en-US The par-4 16th hole has seen en-US the most change. What used to en-US be a short, straight-away hole, en-US now features a green moved en-US well to the right and guarded en-US by water on three sides. Here en-US you can hit anything from a en-US hybrid to a driver and have en-US about the same distance on en-US your approach, just from a en-US different angle.en-US The finishing hole remains en-US one of the best in the area. The par-4 en-US requires a well-placed tee shot to allow you en-US the opportunity to hit a middle iron over en-US the wetland, to the green. The cluster of en-US pines that used to deter aiming safely left en-US are gone. I like this as it allows golfers who en-US cannot reach the green the chance to still go en-US over the wetland at a shorter point and go en-US to the green from there. en-US Florida Clubs maintenance staff also hit en-US the jackpot with new mowers, tractors and en-US other equipment. Murphy, who was en-US previously at the Breakers in Palm Beach, en-US knows what it takes to have a great golf en-US course. He also knows that it takes a en-US professional staff to keep it that way.en-US I truly enjoyed my round here and you en-US should make a point of getting your name en-US on the tee sheet as well. I can hardly en-US wait to start cooking! en-US Unfortunately, for years many consumers en-US would buy imported lamb from New en-US Zealand and Australia, overcook it, and en-US then serve it with mint jelly to mask the en-US taste. The flavor would be overpowering en-US and the texture dry and chewy. en-US Lamb raised in the United States is en-US grain-fed, giving the lamb a beefier flavor en-US unlike the imported lamb that was grass-en-US fed, which caused a more intense flavor. en-US Todays lamb from New Zealand and en-US Australia is grain-fed and has developed a en-US more delicate taste. I still prefer the en-US domestic lamb, but I will use the imported en-US in a pinch with no problem.en-US Chefs are better trained in the cooking of en-US lamb today, and it is seen more often on en-US restaurant menus as well as lamb shanks, en-US my second all-time favorite meat. Lamb is en-US very healthy to eat. It is a great source of en-US protein, essential vitamins and minerals. It en-US has the correct ratio of all eight of the en-US essential amino acids.en-US The meat has less marbling than other en-US meats, which means most of the fat is on en-US the outside edges. A 3-ounce portion of en-US lamb leg has 74 mg of cholesterol compared en-US to 70 mg in a skinless chicken breast. en-US Calorie-wise, there are 162 in lamb to 159 en-US in chicken. en-US Now here is what you all have been en-US waiting for, my personal all-time favorite en-US recipe for Roasted Spring Lamb a la Costa.en-USROASTED LEG OF LAMBen-USIngredientsen-US 1 5-6 pound bone-in leg of lamben-US 1/4-cup olive oilen-US 2 tablespoons chopped fresh garlic cloves en-US (about 6 cloves)en-US 1/3-cup balsamic vinegaren-US 1/4-cup fresh squeezed lemon juiceen-US 1 teaspoon salten-US 1 teaspoon black pepperen-US 2 tablespoons leaf oreganoen-US 1 tablespoon fresh rosemary, choppeden-US Directionsen-US In a small bowl, mix all the ingredients en-US together except the lamb.en-US Make 8 or 9 small slices all over the lamb. en-US Insert the mixture in the slices and rub the en-US entire lamb with the remaining mixture.en-US Place in a roasting pan, fat side down. en-US Add 1/2-cup water and 1/2-cup red wine. en-US Roast at 375 degrees for 45 minutes to an en-US hour or until a meat thermometer reads 135 en-US degrees.en-US Costa Magoulas is dean of the Mori en-US Hosseini College of Hospitality and Culinary en-US Management at Daytona State College. en-US Contact him at (386) 506-3578 or en-US magoulc@en-US daytonastate.edu.
