Mr. Mauga was crowned en-US Muaausa, a high chief title from the Sa Malietoa en-US bloodline. Two years ago, celebrity Dwayne en-US Johnson also received his chiefly title of Seiuli en-US from the same Malietoa bloodline. en-US Muaausa Mauga is the descendant of two en-US royal bloodlines. His great-grandfather, Paraen-US -en-US mount Chief Palepoi Mauga, was one of six recen-US-en-US ognized chiefs to sign the treaty that annexed en-US Samoa as a territory of the U.S. en-US Muaausa Maugas coronation ceremony en-US stretched over two days filled with traditional en-US song, prayer and speeches from the sitting en-US chiefs of the existing families and host villages. en-US Eight families gathered and presented roughly en-US five nominations for various positions that en-US needed to be occupied. Lower chiefs, not from en-US the royal bloodline, lined up outside the cereen-US-en-US monial Fale (traditional Samoan hut) to present en-US gifts and pay respect.en-US Approximately 1,000 people congregated en-US along the outskirts to listen and take pictures. en-US Custom dictates that everyone who attended en-US the ceremony be served a meal, so a bounty of en-US food was prepared, including bananas, breaden-US -en-US fruit, fish, corned beef, rice, chop suey noodles, en-US chicken and sausage. A number of pigs were en-US also sacrificed. en-US The chieftain receives a title, land and attends en-US to matters of significance to the larger family. en-US The position means that he is a permanent seren-US -en-US vant to his family and their representative to en-US preserve, protect and honor the Samoan Way or en-US Fa Samoa. It also secures the lineage for his en-US children and preserves the title for his family, en-US Muaausa Mauga said.en-US The chieftain hopes to represent Samoans en-US who reside in Florida as well as their culture. en-US Both his island roots and artistic abilities are en-US showcased through his chainsaw carvings. en-US MELBOURNE A group of talenten-US-en-US ed, young musicians will take the stage en-US for the first time under the direction en-US of professional concertmasters and en-US conductors as part of the rising Space en-US Coast Symphony Youth Orchestra.en-US The group formed in August with en-US the assistance of the Space Coast Symen-US-en-US phony Orchestra, and has since grown en-US to 98 members between the ages of en-US eight to 18 years old.en-US Fanfares and Salutations is a free en-US concert with no ticket required. The founders en-US evoked the idea of fundamental human en-US decency in the Declaration Of Indepenen-US -en-US dence when they referred to natures law en-US Gods law. They werent implying that relien-US-en-US gion be the foundation for government. en-US Indeed, they rejected the notion of a state en-US religion. They were simply stating that en-US basic morality must be an underlay for a en-US government founded in democracy. They en-US stood for truth and justice.en-US Some say the founders were unsophistien-US -en-US cated, lacking the judgment required for en-US our nation in 2018. Its true, the founders en-US didnt know about the changes to come. en-US The 1700 economy was agrarian. Comen-US -en-US merce was in its infancy. But, the founders en-US were not stupid. They knew they were en-US being had. In the Declaration Of Indepenen-US -en-US dence they identified the enemy and en-US named his crimes. They exclaimed that en-US tyranny must not be tolerated and that en-US Americans must rise up against any goven-US -en-US ernment that embraced tyranny. This was en-US not to be done lightly, without great conen-US -en-US sideration and thought, but with deliberaen-US -en-US tion and conviction. They wanted liberty.en-US So, how would the American founders en-US vote? Well, they no longer have a vote but en-US I think they would say, use caution Ameren-US -en-US icans. Our foundation is strong, but the en-US voice of the naysayers is loud and seducen-US -en-US tive. Lets remember what Abraham Linen-US-en-US coln said in Gettysburg, ...that governen-US-en-US ment of the people, by the people, for the en-US people, shall not perish from the face of en-USthe Earth.en-USA new partyen-USWe could use a new party in the USA en-US called the conservative or conservationist en-US party in addition to Republican and Demen-US -en-US ocratic parties. It is about time for changen-US -en-US es which are long overdue. Look at the en-US state of Florida and our waterways and en-US the train. We could use a political backer en-US and seek out people that care about this en-US precious planet.en-USRoaming catsen-USIt's shocking to think anyone complains en-US about cats not being seen outdoors when en-US responsible pet owners keep their cats en-US indoors.en-US Roaming cats are not only at risk of en-US being killed by coyotes, but they fall prey en-US to foxes, birds of prey, other cats, dogs, en-US cars and, yes, people. Also, roaming cats en-US are a nuisance due to their bathroom haben-US-en-US its, midnight fights, and their contribuen-US-en-US tion to the feral cat population if they are en-US not fixed. Roaming cats prey on rabbits as en-US well as 3.7 billion birds each year in our en-US country. If anyone is concerned about en-US coyotes or any other wildlife that seems to en-US be "intruding" on our space (when it has en-US been the other way around), I would sugen-US -en-US gest that you deal with local government, en-US which is approving the clear-cutting of the en-US habitat of countless wildlife species in this en-US area, forcing animals into our streets and en-US yards. Relocation of wildlife does not en-US work. So, if you're concerned about a coyen-US -en-US ote or any other animal hurting or killing en-US your cat, and if you are concerned about en-US rabbits and birds, please keep your cats en-US indoors. Orchestra to perform tribute to Pulse victims en-USBREVARD COUNTY The Space Coast en-US Symphony Wind Orchestra will perform a en-US Pulse Tribute and The Lord of the Rings en-US during the next concert in their 10th anniveren-US -en-US sary season, which will take place on Nov. 3 at en-US 7 p.m. in Suntree.en-US Space Coast Symphony Orchestra Artistic en-US Director, Aaron T. Collins, welcomes comen-US-en-US poser and guest conductor Joshua Hobbs for en-US the symphonic tribute to the Pulse victims. en-US Joshua Hobbs moving work is one we all en-US felt strongly we needed to perform, Mr. Colen-US -en-US lins said. We are pleased that he will be conen-US-en-US ducting the piece himself, which will feature en-US the outstanding horn player, Juan Berrios. I en-US believe the audience will also be captivated by en-US the stirring first symphony by Johan de Meij, en-US The Lord of the Rings. He was inspired to en-US put Tolkiens story to music decades before en-US the movies were ever conceived. en-US Virtuoso horn player from the Dallas en-US Brass, Juan Berrios, will join SCSO to peren-US -en-US form Many Hearts One Pulse. The piece en-US was composed by Joshua Hobbs as an elegy en-US for those killed in the Pulse Nightclub trageen-US-en-US dy. On June 12, 2016 a gunman killed 49 peoen-US -en-US ple and wounded 53 others in an attack inside en-US the Pulse nightclub in Orlando. en-US Im reminded of the famous quote by en-US Danish author Hans Christian Andersen, en-US When words fail, music speaks, Mr. Berrios en-US said. The chance to move and help people en-US through our art and music-making is exactly en-US why we hone our craft as musicians. Im en-US beyond humbled and honored to take part in en-US presenting a work that embodies hope, peace en-US and healing for all those affected by the trageen-US -en-US dy that took place at the Pulse night club in en-US Orlando.en-US Performing this piece for the Pulse victims en-US and survivors means a great deal to Mr. en-US Hobbs as well. en-US Two friends of my family tragically lost en-US their lives in that terrorist attack and so many en-US people were affected, he said. I hope that en-US this piece can help the survivors find solace en-US and continue to move forward in their lives.en-US Mr. Hobbs wanted to honor the 49 Pulse en-US victims in some way, so he incorporated a en-US time at the beginning and at the end of the en-US composition when the piano (beginning) en-US and vibraphone (ending) repeats one note 49 en-US times in a row. en-US I knew that the arc of the piece was going en-US to begin with despair and end with hope, he en-US said. As I wrote the piece, I was very conen-US -en-US scious of the tone of the music. It was a terrien-US -en-US ble tragedy, so while the music should reflect en-US that at times, I didnt want the piece to only en-US inspire those dark thoughts. I wanted to, en-US above all, pay respect to the victims and suren-US -en-US vivors. en-US Even the pieces title, Many Hearts One en-US Pulse reaches for Mr. Hobbs goal. The title en-US refers to the huge, spontaneous up-welling of en-US love, support and solidarity for the victims en-US and their families from the Orlando commuen-US -en-US nity and across the nation. Ultimately, Mr. en-US Hobbs stated that he hopes that piece will en-US reflect both the intensity of grief and power en-US of empathy.en-US The concert will also feature en-US Dutch composer Johan de Meijs en-US first symphony, The Lord of the en-US Rings. Inspired by the literary en-US work of J.R.R. Tolkien, Mr. de en-US Meij composed the work in 1988 en-US that made him world renowned en-US as a top composer for wind en-US orchestra. The program also en-US includes Frank Ticheli Angels in en-US the Architecture and Joshua en-US Hobbs Into the Blue.en-US I have been wanting to peren-US -en-US form Johan De Meijs Lord of the en-US Rings Symphony for many years en-US now, Mr. Collins said. The en-US opportunity presented itself and I en-US jumped all over it. It is an en-US immense work that is one of the en-US most popular for wind bands all en-US over the world. It is cast in five en-US movements/scenes that are very en-US descriptive. I think the audience en-US will fall in love with this work.en-US The Pulse Tribute and The en-US Lord of the Rings concert will en-US take place on Nov. 3 at 7 p.m. at en-US the Scott Center for the Performing Arts at en-US Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy, which is en-US located at 5625 Holy Trinity Drive in Suntree.en-US Advance tickets are $25 for adults and are en-US available through the orchestras website en-US www.spacecoastsymphony.org or at the en-US orchestras new official Brevard ticket outlet: en-US Marine Bank and Trust in Suntree. That en-US depends on who you are asking, but en-US read on to find my answer.en-USFor the first 25 years of my life, I was en-US either in school or an enlisted person in en-US the Navy. While a student I was most en-US concerned about rabbit and squirrel en-US hunting (meaning skipping eighth en-US period), playing sports, acquiring a en-US summer job, and dating pretty girls. en-US Politics certainly was not a priority. For en-US the next 30 years I served as an officer in en-US the Navy and, while I participated in en-US national elections, local politics was still en-US not a major factor in my life.en-US Now that I am well past those first 55 en-US years, politics interests me more, espeen-US -en-US cially as it affects seniors or caregivers. en-US Since working as an advocate for seniors, en-US I better understand the forces aligned en-US against seniors trying to survive their en-US golden years with dignity. And, as a en-US retired Captain, I can best describe these en-US challenges using some military terminolen-US -en-US ogy.en-US Navigating a minefield, whether it be at en-US sea or ashore, is fraught with danger. I en-US remember spending 30 anxious days in en-US the Vietnam War on a submerged patrol en-US next to an enemy minefield. Thinking en-US back to those times, I can well imagine en-US the anxiety that some seniors experience en-US when they have little food in the pantry, en-US electrical bills several months behind, or en-US the water about to be shut off. Do you en-US think I am making this up? I am not, for en-US I have listened to seniors telling me these en-US very things in Brevard County.en-US We just handed out thousands of en-US pounds of candy on Halloween. At en-US Thanksgiving, we will eat huge amounts en-US of food and donate to food pantries, en-US Daily Bread, Meals on Wheels, and en-US sharing centers to feed the homeless or en-US families in need. But what about the en-US thousands of seniors in Brevard that do en-US daily battle just to survive? Homelessness, en-US poverty, inadequate housing, and no en-US transportation are a real and present en-US danger to seniors in our county.en-US These things all exist, so what are our en-US county leaders doing about it? In a county en-US that ranks seventh highest in the U.S. in en-US terms of number of seniors, are our en-US elected officials developing a plan for en-US seniors? The Advocacy Council of en-US Helping Seniors identified such factors in en-US a paper to the Brevard County Commisen-US -en-US sioners in 2016, wherein they outlined en-US the development of a County plan to en-US meet the rapidly increasing numbers of en-US elders in Brevard.en-US As you decide how to cast your vote in en-US the forthcoming election, consider what en-US it will mean to seniors if we do not en-US address needs to which seniors are en-US entitled. I do not mean a handout, rather en-US a well conceived plan to care equally en-US about people of all ages, especially seniors en-US who are frail, disadvantaged, and unable en-US to care for themselves. If I were a senior, en-US I would think a little with my ballot and en-US vote for those willing to support seniors en-US and others who need help.en-USHELPING SENIORS en-US OF BREVARDen-USJOE STECKLER Nov. 8 at the Tony Rosa Community en-USCenter, 1502 Port Malabar Blvd. NE, Palm en-US Bay.en-US This year, employers are being en-US challenged to conduct interviews and hire en-US on site when possible, versus going to a en-US website to apply for said position. en-US For more information, call Wilfredo en-US Quiles at (321) 394-0584.en-US Shop local: en-US Take part in the 2018 en-US Suntree United Methodist Church en-US Christmas Bazaar from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. en-US Saturday, Nov. 10, at the church, 7400 N. en-US Wickham Road, Melbourne.en-US Enjoy more than 25 arts and crafts en-US vendors, an Attic Treasure Sale, en-US homemade baked goods and lunch, book en-US nook, and more.en-US This fantastic opportunity treat yourself en-US and/or buy early Christmas special gifts.en-US For more information, call Dr. Patricia en-US Ryan at (305) 978-2920 or email en-US email@example.com-US.en-US Free magic workshop for kids: en-US The en-US Magic Dove Magic Shop hosts free en-US monthly magic workshops for kids at 9 a.m. every second Saturday of the month en-US(Nov. 10) at the magic shop, 604 Brevard en-US Ave., Cocoa.en-US The free program for children ages 7-17, en-US is designed to build positive character en-US traits and increase confidence. en-US Dr. Dan and youth magicians will teach en-US magic tricks that children can do with en-US everyday objects. The disease becomes a en-US large part of who the person is, and no one en-US wants to feel that they are not in control of en-US their body or mind. There are so many en-US resources out there that are not known and en-US this community of Parkinsons patients is the en-US most educated, outgoing and best advocates en-US that I have ever seen.en-US Parkinsons disease affects 3,000 residents en-US here on the Space Coast, according to offien-US-en-US cials, and it is often developed in men and en-US women between the ages of 50 and 60 years en-US old.en-US Symptoms of Parkinsons disease includes en-US tremors or shaking, often in a hand, arm, leg, en-US jaw or face; stiff, weak or aching muscles and en-US difficulty with walking and balance.en-US Ms. Fradkin, who also co-facilitates a en-US monthly Parkinson Support group, explained en-US that the idea behind Parkinsons Power Day en-US started when she was looking for speakers en-US who could educated her group.en-US Florida Hospital has a wonderful Parkinen-US-en-US son Outreach program and they offered to en-US come and do two of their programs here in en-US Brevard County, Ms. Fradkin said. Planen-US-en-US ning for the event began about nine months en-US ago. Hundreds of volunteer hours have been en-US poured into organization, preparation and en-US aircraft restoration to make sure the event en-US goes off without a hitch. en-US The finishing touches are being put on a en-US new Boeing B-52 Stratofortress cockpit en-US exhibit. The B-52 cockpit is one of only a en-US handful in America that is open to the public. en-US Attendees can go inside and see where the en-US bombardier, navigator and pilots worked. en-US Museum volunteers have spent the last year en-US refurbishing the B-52 cockpit in a 26,000-en-US foot restoration hangar where they restore en-US static displays. The team has also brought en-US some aircraft back to flying status in that en-US hangar, including the museums flagship, en-US Tico Belle. en-US Museum volunteers are already preparing en-US for their next event, the Annual Space Coast en-US Airbird Warshow, which will be held March en-US 15-17.
