This year, the ball en-US occurred shortly after high school hours were en-US over for the summer. Many of the girls will en-US have been freshly graduated from high en-US school, lending an even greater air of accomen-US -en-US plishment for this years young women.en-US All the applications are done online, and en-US its really broadened the scope of who is availen-US -en-US able to do the program, Mrs. Berman said. en-US [Were] getting a good mix of girls we en-US have girls that are in volleyball, we have one en-US girl that is heavily involved with her synaen-US -en-US gogue those kind of girls that are putting en-US themselves out there. en-US For more information on The South Breen-US -en-US vard Debutante Assembly Committee, visiten-US en-US www.sbdebutantes.org/the-ball.en-US By Austin Rushnellen-USarushnell@hometownnewsol.comen-USPhoto courtesy of Cathy Berkmanen-USDebutantes pose for a group photo during the debutante ball during en-US a previous year. Overdoses happen en-US when a person has taken more opiates (or en-US opioids) than their body can handle. en-US 7 en-USof having a senior go in, Mrs. Helin said. en-US We saw the need for flexible care. We en-US could be around most of the time, but en-US there were times when we needed a little en-US bit of help here and there, and there was en-US nothing out there to do that.en-US I happened to see an ad for the franen-US-en-US chise and thought, I wish I thought of en-US that, she continued. I checked into it en-US and fell in love with it so much so that I en-US thought its too good to be true. So, I gave en-US it to mom because she had been in insuren-US -en-US ance for 25 years as a businesswoman, so I en-US had her dot the Is and cross the Ts and en-US she fell in love with it too.en-US Although she plans to go into a paren-US -en-US tial-retirement, Mrs. Barton said she still en-US plans to co-own the business and give her en-US daughter advice whether she wants it or en-US not.en-US Mrs. Barton moved down to Melbourne en-US Beach 20 years ago. Previous to her work en-US as a concierge at the Windsor Club in en-US Vero Beach, Mrs. Barton had retired from en-US a career in Gannon Associates, Inc., an en-US insurance agency in which she rose to en-US become a licensed agent and retired as the en-US companys vice president.en-US During her time at Gannon Associates, en-US Mrs. Barton went back to school in order en-US to earn a CPCU certificate.en-US I loved working in that field, Mrs. en-US Barton said. I worked at an interesting en-US time because when I started in insurance, en-US there were no insurance ladies it was en-US always your insurance man. So when I en-US started, I was basically told that I would en-US not be a success because I was a woman. en-US So I had a lot of hurdles to cross to prove en-US that I could do the job.en-US But even before she was making victoen-US -en-US ries by paving a way in the mans world en-US that was insurance, according to Mrs. en-US Barton, she started out on Wall Street as a en-US summer clerk at the age of 16. At the end en-US of her five years working there, she was a en-US secretary to a senior partner of the comen-US -en-US pany.en-US Back at that time, you could never go en-US any further than that, Mrs. Barton said.en-US During her time in high school, there en-US were limited occupations for women to en-US choose after finishing school, such as secen-US -en-US retarial school, nursing, state teachers colen-US-en-US lege or perhaps could work in the insuren-US -en-US ance and stock market.en-US I think she is fearless in a very positive en-US way, and she always brings people up with en-US her, Mrs. Helin said about her mom. She en-US won Woman of Excellence a couple of en-US years ago and that truly embodied her en-US because she has always reached out and en-US helped all of the women around her. There are certain cloud en-USissues to be wary ofen-USOen-USnce upon a time there was this guy en-US who was so enamored with cloud en-US computing that he stuck all of his en-US digital eggs in one basket and in the blink of en-US an eye lost it all. The end. en-US Alright, OK, Im sure there are enough of en-US you reading this wondering what in the en-US world Im going on about this week so I en-US suppose I ought to take a few words to en-US explain. You see I recently read an article en-US online (an open letter to Google actually) en-US written by a very distraught fellow who en-US wanted Google to know just how badly they en-US messed up when they locked him out of all en-US of his data. en-US The poor guy goes on to explain that he en-US spent months switching all of his email over en-US to gmail, all of his photos over to Googles en-US photo service (Picasa), all of his docs to en-US Google Docs, etc. After painstakingly en-US moving all of his data to Googles servers en-US (wherever the hell they are) he woke up one en-US day to find out his account had been closed en-US due to a terms of service violation which en-US he swears up and down he didnt commit. en-US The bottom line is he spent a considerable en-US amount of time moving his entire digital en-US inventory up to Googles cloud, didnt make en-US any provisions to back any of it up and then en-US (just as Murphys law demands) found en-US himself completely locked out. en-US Now, this column isnt about whether en-US Google had a right to lock him out of his en-US account or not nor is it some type of cry out en-US to the powers that be to change the way our en-US data is safeguarded when we hand it over to en-US the cloud. Its more of a cautionary tale to en-US remind us of that which we already know en-US back up everything! Even when entrusting en-US your data to the cloud, back it to a local drive en-US as well! To not do so is just asking for it. en-US OK, lets look at this a little closer shall we? en-US First the decision to use a cloud service en-US may be a decision that many are not even en-US aware that they are making. Let me try to en-US clarify a couple things, take email for en-US example. If you are accessing your email en-US through your web browser by going to www.en-US gmail.com, www.yahoo.com, www.aol.com en-US or any of the other email services that offer en-US web based mail service then guess what? en-US Your email is being stored and managed in en-US the cloud and if you should find yourself in en-US violation of the terms of service you too en-US could find yourself locked out. (Just how en-US well did you read those terms when you en-US signed up? You know, the terms you have to en-US click the Accept button for in order to set en-US up your account?) en-US Most email services allow the downloaden-US -en-US ing of email to a local email client which is en-US present on each and every machine out en-US there Windows, Mac or Linux. You can en-US set up your computers email program en-US (Windows Live Mail, Outlook, Outlook en-US Express for those machines still running en-US Windows XP, Mail on Macs) by configuren-US -en-US ing the POP or IMAP settings. Look it en-US up in your email services help settings and if en-US your email service doesnt provide for it then en-US you may want to consider an alternative. en-US Next lets look at the folly of uploading all en-US of your digital pictures to a service like en-US Googles Picasa Web Albums and then deleten-US -en-US ing the local copies after you upload all of en-US your pictures. Why on earth would anyone en-US do that? Well Sean, we dont want all these en-US duplicates now do we? Well, actually, you en-US do. en-US Sure, uploading all of your photos to a en-US web based service is great but for Gods en-US sakes, dont get rid of the originals! Did you en-US know that you can get 8 gigabyte thumb en-US drives from just about any drugstore en-US nowadays for about 10 bucks! What you dont know en-US about some of these common plants can en-US be deadly. Some parts of the ornamental en-US plants or flowers in your yard may en-US contain deadly poison. The most en-US susceptible to being harmed by these en-US plants are children and pets. en-US One of the most toxic and common en-US poisonous plants is the Oleander. The en-US Oleander plant contains a deadly heart en-US stimulant that resembles the prescription en-US drug digitalis. If a child eats a single leaf en-US or two from this plant it could be deadly. en-US There have been several instances where en-US people have died from eating meats that en-US were roasted from a wood fire that en-US contained Oleander twigs or branches. en-US Dieffenbachia, which is a common en-US tropical that many of us have in our en-US homes, is also a highly toxic plant. All en-US parts of this plant are poisonous. If eaten, en-US the plant can cause intense burning and en-US irritation of your mouth. The plant can en-US be deadly if enough swelling occurs to en-US block your airway. You should always en-US wash your hands after handling this or en-US any of the listed poisonous plants.en-US Another surprising plant is the Azalea. en-US All parts of the Azalea plant can be toxic en-US if ingested. The symptoms include en-US nausea and vomiting along with en-US difficulty in breathing and possibly en-US coma. The end result can be fatal. Even en-US the berries of Jasmine plants can be toxic. en-US They can cause digestive problems along en-US with nervous system disorders. en-US The foliage from oak trees can be toxic en-US but the effects are gradual. If foliage is en-US ingested, it can slowly affect your en-US kidneys. You need to ingest a substantial en-US amount for severe poisoning to occur. en-US Lantana, which is commonly used by en-US many as a colorful ground cover, is en-US another specimen that is toxic if ingested. en-US Acute poisoning can cause hemorrhagic en-US diarrhea and rapid heart rate.en-US Although this list includes some of the en-US most common plant varieties, there are en-US many more that could be added to this en-US list including Milkweed, Narcissus, en-US Daffodil, poison Oak, Purslane and Snow GARDEN NOOK en-USJOE ZELENAK en-GBSeeen-GB en-GB PLANTSen-GB, page 15

Bear in mind that just en-US because some of your favorite plants can be en-US toxic if ingested, common sense and en-US keeping these plants out of the reach of en-US small children and pets can totally avoid en-US tragedy. en-US We have talked a lot about common and en-US seemingly innocent plants that can be toxic en-US but here is one plant that many people think en-US is deadly poisonous but in reality, it is harmen-US -en-US less. The plant I am referring to is the en-US Poinsettia. The Poinsettia plant is one of the en-US most widely produced plants in the country. en-US During the holidays, almost every houseen-US -en-US hold has at least one Poinsettia adorning en-US their dcor. Fear not, as todays commercialen-US -en-US ly distributed varieties are not poisonous. en-US There are some people, however, that en-US may get a mild allergic reaction to the milky en-US sap if it comes in contact with their skin. en-US The affected areas can be washed with soap en-US and water to remove the sap if irritation en-US develops. Poinsettia plants are not a serious en-US risk for animals although it is always best to en-US keep any plant out of the reach of pets if en-US they like to chew plants.en-US Finally, there are also several common en-US houseplants that can be toxic to animals en-US and children. Probably the most common is en-US the Philodendron. The toxic part is the en-US leaves. If ingested, it can cause burning of en-US the lips and mouth and can also cause en-US contact dermatitis if the plant juice contacts en-US the skin. Similar symptoms can occur with en-US Pothos, Golden Pothos and Devils Ivy. en-US That all for this week and I hope you en-US found the content informative and interesten-US -en-US ing.
