Brian Mast to stop the massive discharges en-US from Lake Okeechobee that have caused a plague en-US of blue-green algae on both coasts. en-US Normally such environmental concerns en-US prompt both politicians and their backers to at en-US least temporarily take off their Democratic and en-US Republican labels, but all but one public speaker en-US during the meeting begged the Commission to en-US postpone the endorsement to after the Nov. 6 en-US election to avoid the appearance of partisan polien-US -en-US tics. Rep. Mast a Republican is running for en-US re-election against Democratic candidate Lauren en-US Baer and will have either won or lost his bid for en-US re-election shortly after press time. en-US [Editors note: The en-US Hometown Newsen-US purposely en-US postponed publication of this article until after the en-USCommissioners support Stop en-US Harmful Discharges bill en-USTop en-US principal, en-US assistant en-US named en-USSTUART The Martin County en-US School Board named J.D. Even if you have the best en-US tires and vehicle that money can buy, all it en-US takes is a little pothole or a curb to cost you en-US a new set of tires. This can cost you en-US anywhere from $300 to over $1,000. If you en-US live in an area with unpaved roads or lots of en-US roads in need of repair and being repaired en-US (Like South Florida) you're especially en-US vulnerable to potholes and other road en-US obstacles that can knock your front and rear en-US wheels out of alignment. One of my en-US "favorite" ways to misalign my wheels is en-US curbs...I can't seem to avoid them when I'm en-US parking, especially backing into a parallel en-US parking place.en-US Most people know that if their car is en-US pulling to the left or right, they need an en-US alignment. Most also know that if they see en-US wear on the edges of their tires, they may en-US have an alignment problem (It could also be en-US under inflated tires). But what most people en-US don't know is that your wheels can be badly en-US out of alignment with no symptoms en-US whatsoever. It's like high blood pressure and en-US that's why I used the phrase "silent killer" in en-US the title of this article. Some people can tell en-US their blood pressure is high from headaches en-US or dizziness, but most feel no difference. en-US Most people learn that they have hypertenen-US -en-US sion only when their doctor measures their en-US blood pressure. Unfortunately, many never en-US find out until it's too late.en-US Last year I had to replace a nearly new set en-US of tires which had only about 5,000 miles en-US on them (it cost me over $1,000) because all en-US four of my wheels were out of alignment. en-US There were no symptoms whatsoever. My en-US car didn't pull, my steering wheel was en-US perfectly straight, and I saw no abnormal en-US tire wear. I brought my car in for its routine en-US 5,000-mile service and when my technician en-US put it up on the lift to rotate and balance my en-US wheels and tires, he found that the inside of en-US all four of my tires was severely worn. en-US When you have offsetting misalignment on en-US opposing wheels, there is no pull and when en-US the wear is only on the inside of the tire, it's en-US invisible until the car is up on a lift. I had en-US my car aligned only a few months ago but I en-US knocked it out of alignment again without en-US even realizing it.en-US Aligning the four wheels of your car, like en-US everything else, is a lot more complicated en-US than it used to be. Cars shocks' and en-US suspensions are more complex today. When en-US most cars had rear wheel drive, aligning was en-US simple. Now we have mostly front wheel en-US drive and even some all-wheel drive cars on en-US the road. We no longer do just "front end" en-US alignments we must align all four wheels. In en-US the "old days" service departments routinely en-US checked the alignment for all cars that en-US drove in. There was a simple machine built en-US into the service drive that registered the en-US measurements when you drove over the en-US track. Some service department still use en-US these dinosaurs, but they are not accurate en-US on today's cars. Nowadays, some older en-US alignment machines are so complex that it en-US takes almost as long to measure your en-US alignment as to adjust it. For this reason, en-US many service departments will charge you en-US the same to measure your alignment as they en-US do to align it, even if the measurements find en-US it is perfectly in adjustment. Modern en-US machines will quickly measure alignments, en-US but some service departments don't have en-US these.en-US There are three basic measurements that en-US must be exactly right for your tires to be in Nationwide now writing Homeowner Insurance in Martin and St. Lucie CountiesCall local agent Mike Boogaart 772-343-1963Atlantic Insurance Partners, Inc. 3725 SE Ocean Blvd., #104 Sewalls Point, FL 34996 Mike@aipagency.comProducts underwritten by Nationwide Mutual Insurance Company and Affiliated Companies. That is why I got the en-US cats. I know coyotes. Everything is a trade en-US off. Nothing is perfect, so, people, chill out.en-US People have too much time of their hands en-US and look for things to gripe about. The birds en-US come in and so do the butterflies. These programs are not entien-US-en-US tlement programs in any manner whatsoeven-US -en-US er. Get your facts straight before you submit en-US extemporaneous statements to the public.en-USHow would the founders vote?en-USAs the elections approach, it seems reaen-US -en-US sonable to consider principles established by en-US the American founders. The founders en-US evoked the idea of fundamental human en-US decency in the Declaration of Independence en-US when they referred to nature's law God's en-US law. They weren't implying that religion be en-US the foundation for government. Indeed, en-US they rejected the notion of a state religion. en-US They were simply stating that basic morality en-US must be an underlay for a government en-US founded in deen-USmocracy. They stood for truth en-US and justice.en-US Some say the founders were unsophistien-US -en-US cated, lacking the judgment required for our en-US nation in 2018. It's true, the founders didn't en-US know about the changes to come. The 1700 en-US economy was agrarian. Commerce was in en-US its infancy. en-US But, the founders were not stupid. They en-US knew they were being had. In the Declaraen-US -en-US tion of Independence they identified the en-US enemy and named his crimes. They en-US exclaimed that tyranny must not be toleraten-US -en-US ed and that Americans must rise up against en-US any government that embraced tyranny. en-US This was not to be done lightly, without en-US great consideration and thought, but with en-US deliberation and conviction. They wanted en-US liberty.en-US So, how would the American founders en-US vote? Well, they no longer have a vote but I en-US think they would say, use caution Amerien-US -en-US cans. Our foundation is strong, but the voice en-US of the naysayers is loud and seduen-USctive. Let's en-US remember what Abraham Lincoln said in en-US Gettysburg, ...that government of the peoen-US-en-US ple, by the people, for the people, shall not en-US perish from the face of the Earth.en-USRacism is learneden-USI am convinced that racism is a learned en-US behavior. Children are not prejudiced by en-US nature. If you watch a group of pre-school en-US children of different races, different culen-US -en-US tures playing together . it's amazing en-US how they enjoy playing together and get en-US along, inspite of their differences.en-US So, how is prejudice and racism learned? en-US From what parents and other adults say to en-US or about other people groups, the attitudes en-US they show toward other people, and in genen-US -en-US eral how adults treat others. Children tend en-US to repeat what they see and hear from adults. en-US Thankfully I was brought up in a home en-US where prejudice was not taught or practiced. en-US I have had many friends of other races, and en-US still do to this day. Just because a child is en-US brought up in a disadvantaged environment en-US doesn't mean he is given the right to be prejen-US -en-US udiced or racist.en-US The Bible says: "Unless you become as liten-US-en-US tle children, you will not enter the kingdom en-US of heaven."en-USGunsen-USI read an email last week from a Canadi en-US-en-US an, who lives in the US permanently, quesen-US -en-US tioning why Americans want guns, quesen-US -en-US tioning about semi automatic guns. No, I don't own a en-US semi automatic, but if I wanted one I'd like en-US that choice, with all that's going on in the en-US country, yes. This en-US website links to a video that gives a very en-US clear, easy to understand explanation of en-US these measurements, en-US www.TireKiller.comen-US. en-US The video was produced by the manufacen-US -en-US turer, Hunter, who is the largest and best en-US manufacturer of alignment machines in the en-US world.en-US When you buy a new or used car, you en-US should insist that the dealer check the en-US alignment. A new car can be knocked out of en-US alignment in many ways. Transporting the en-US car to the dealer from the manufacturer and en-US driving it on or off a ship, truck, or train can en-US do it. A technician can do it during a en-US pre-delivery road test or a car salesman or en-US prospective customer might during a test en-US drive. Remember that a demonstration en-US drive in a new or used car won't necessarily en-US reveal any symptoms like a pull or abnoren-US -en-US mal tire wear. Many manufacturers will en-US allow one alignment under warranty for a en-US short time and mileage period (like 1 year en-US or 20,000 miles), but some will only permit en-US the dealer do a check on your alignment if en-US you complain about a pull or abnormal tire en-US wear. Manufacturers consider alignment a en-US maintenance item that is your responsibilien-US -en-US ty. Therefore, it's important to be sure your en-US new car is aligned when your car is still en-US within the alignment warranty time and en-US mileage.en-US When the service department measures en-US your alignment, be sure that they use the en-US latest equipment. A modern alignment en-US machine is computerized, measures all four en-US wheels, requires that your car be elevated en-US on the lift, and the technician must be fully en-US trained. And they are very expensive, about en-US $60,000 for a state-of-the-art machine. en-US Many independent service departments and en-US some dealers can't afford these. You should en-US ask for a copy of the computer printout en-US showing the specific measurements before en-US and after your alignment. You should have en-US your alignment checked every time you en-US bring your car in for service, approximately en-US every 6 months or 5,000 miles. If you hit a en-US curb, pothole or other obstacle in the road en-US or notice abnormal wear on the edge of en-US your tires, bring it in for an alignment check en-US immediately. 2016 2016 C H O I C E R E A D E R S Stuart Canvas & Awnings We come to you. He en-US invested Title I funds in teacher and staff en-US training and strived to revitalize the J.D. en-US Parker school culture and strengthen the en-US institutions ties with community partners en-US such as the Martin County Airport and the en-US City of Stuart. He said the action plan got en-US the results hed hoped for.en-US Over the course of the next few years, we en-US stuck with our original plan as we started en-US seeing the positive results of our work, he en-US explained. I was very pleased to see an en-US increase in nearly all areas of our school en-US report card this past year. However, I am the en-US most proud of our school when I walk into en-US our classrooms. Our teachers are second to en-US none in the way they connect with students en-US and in the way they help make our school en-US feel like a second home for everyone who en-US spends time here.en-US For her part, Ms. Smith, 38, said she was en-US shocked when Ms. Gaylord showed up at en-US her office that day with the news.en-US Martin County has an abundance of en-US innovative and inspiring leaders, so being en-US recognized with this honor is absolutely en-US incredible, she said. I am blessed to work en-US with a team of professionals who inspire me en-US with their fierce advocacy for all students. en-US A native of Boston who has lived on both en-US coasts and even in the heartland where she en-US studied at the University of Colorado, Ms. en-US Smith has called Martin County home for en-US the last 15 years and admits education was en-US not initially her career goal.en-US I graduated college with a degree in en-US sociology but quickly realized that my pasen-US -en-US sion was in education, she explained. I en-US went back to school to pursue my dream en-US and eventually earned my masters degree in en-US educational leadership and policy studies.en-US Ms. Smith joined the Martin School Disen-US-en-US trict in 2005 as a teacher at Port Salerno Eleen-US -en-US mentary where she taught every grade but en-US third and kindergarten for the next 11 years, en-US as well as serving as a math coach and worken-US -en-US ing as program specialist for the Martin en-US Family Language Involvement Program and en-US Port Salerno Talks Early Language Initiative. en-US In 2016 the District promoted her to assisen-US -en-US tant principal at Pinewood Elementary. She en-US said Port Salerno, and in particular her en-US fifth-grade classes, will always hold a special en-US place in her heart for years she spent there.en-US Each grade was wonderful in its own en-US way, but fifth grade is such a special grade to en-US teach, she explained. I love the community en-US we made in our class and cherish the relaen-US -en-US tionships we built together.en-US Now in her third year as a Pinewood Eleen-US-en-US mentary assistant principal, Ms. Smith said en-US she finds the transition from classroom en-US teacher to school-wide administrator more en-US stimulating rather than challenging.en-US There are so many remarkable aspects to en-US the job, but being a part of a larger school en-US community and collaborating with teachers, en-US staff, students, and families is most certainly en-US my favorite, she said. I find it exciting to be en-US a part of a school-wide community focused en-US on the singular goal of doing what is best for en-US all children. At Pinewood, there is a tremenen-US -en-US dous spirit of collaboration and team work. en-US Everyone on the campus brings their best en-US for our students and families, all day, every en-US day.en-US Ms. Smith said the caliber of her coworken-US en-USers makes her proud to call the Martin en-US County School District home.en-US The District is filled with individuals en-US who are passionate about making a differen-US -en-US ence in the lives of children, she said. en-US Every day I am in awe of the expertise and en-US enthusiasm that our teachers bring into en-US their classrooms.en-US Dr. Jones echoed that sentiment, emphaen-US -en-US sizing the importance of building a commuen-US -en-US nity between all local stakeholders in educaen-US-en-US tion. I consider myself very fortunate to en-US have spent time at several schools in Martin en-US County and have seen fantastic teaching in en-US every building, he said. I have been lucky en-US to build relationships with teachers, staff en-US and students around the county, and Ive en-US made some amazing friends here.en-US Both administrators will now compete on en-US the state level for Principal Achievement en-US Award for Outstanding Leadership and en-US Outstanding Assistant Principal Achieveen-US-en-US ment Award. Does my new computer have enough RAM? en-USOen-USne of the questions that I am asked en-US frequently by people who are en-US looking to buy a new computer is en-US whether the machine they are looking at en-US has enough RAM. Usually I ask them what en-US they are planning on using the machine for en-US and how much memory the machine has. en-US Its very common today to hear things en-US like well it only has 4 gigabytes of memory en-US and all Im planning on doing with it is en-US email and surfing the web. Will 4 gigs be en-US enough? Or, I dont use the machine for en-US much, I just mainly use it for email and en-US Quicken. Quicken is very important to me en-US and I want to make sure my new machine is en-US going to be able to run it OK. Are you sure en-US that just 4 gigabytes is going to be able to do en-US the job? en-US And, the ad says this machine can take en-US up to 16 gigabytes. Maybe I should get en-US sixteen just to be safe. What do you think? en-US Its at that point I usually have to stifle a en-US chuckle because I can remember, not too en-US long ago, when just the idea of having just en-US one gigabyte of memory in your home en-US computer was the stuff of science fiction.en-US en-US I can even remember writing a column in en-US 1996 explaining to readers how they should en-US be able to run their machines with just 16 en-US megabytes of memory. (Just to put that in en-US perspective, 1,000 megabytes equals 1 en-US gigabyte). en-US Again, dont get me wrong, Im not saying en-US you can run one of todays machines with en-US only 16 mb; you certainly do need considen-US -en-US erably more than that to run Windows but en-US even with a fancy operating system such as en-US Windows 10, the basic tasks havent en-US changed much and 4 gigs of memory will en-US be just fine to check email, surf the web and en-US run Quicken. en-US Another way to put the whole memory en-US question into perspective is to think of it in en-US terms of money. en-US Back around 1996, when Windows was en-US still in its infancy, RAM was very expensive. en-US At the time that I wrote that previous en-US column saying 16 mb was enough, RAM en-US was going for about $50 per megabyte, en-US meaning that the 16 mb I was advocating en-US cost about $800. So that means a gigabyte en-US (1,000 megabytes) back then would have en-US cost about $50,000! en-US Another factor that I consider is the level en-US of machine that they are replacing. Very en-US often, I will speak to someone who is en-US replacing an old system (maybe an old en-US Windows Vista machine with 2 gigabytes or en-US ram or something) and they wonder if 4 en-US gigabytes will work for them on the new en-US machine. Doesnt it stand to reason that if en-US you were able to surf the Web, check your en-US email and run Quicken on the machine you en-US are replacing, then a new machine, with en-US double the memory, shouldnt have a en-US problem handling those same tasks?en-US Today, the tasks havent changed. Its still en-US email, the Web and yeah, maybe some en-US critical program such as Quicken or en-US something, but whenever I hear people en-US pondering whether 4 gigabytes will do it for en-US them I cant help but hear that little grampa en-US voice in the back of my head saying, back en-US in my day we couldnt afford a gigabyte. We en-US got by with 16 megs and we liked it!en-US Back in 1996, I dont think I could have en-US ever imagined being able to get a gigabyte en-US of RAM, let alone pay less than $100 for it. en-US The whole thing makes me wonder what en-US things will be like a decade or so in the en-US future. en-US In 10 years will we have people wonderen-US -en-US ing if 1 terabyte (1,000 gigabytes) will be en-US enough or if maybe they should spring for en-US two? Regardless, Im sure they will probably en-US still only use their machine for checking en-US email, surfing the Web and running en-US Quicken.en-US Sean McCarthy fixes computers. 10 en-USelection to avoid the appearance of partisan en-US politics]en-US The Commission originally intended to en-US handle the resolution without public discusen-US -en-US sion as part of its Consent Agenda but more en-US than one commissioner requested it be en-US pulled due to comments such as those en-US expressed by Stuart attorney Virginia Sheren-US -en-US lock that morning. en-US Im asking you this morning to reverse en-US the increasing trend toward lack of transen-US -en-US parency reflected in your use of the Consent en-US Agenda to avoid public discussion and disen-US -en-US closure of how decisions are made in our en-US local government, she said. Many of the en-US items on todays Consent Agenda deserve en-US public discussion and I thank you for pullen-US -en-US ing a lot of them from the darkness into the en-US sunshine. The resolution for support for en-US Resolution 6700 will be discussed and en-US debated, only because citizens demanded en-US that opportunity, not because you invited en-US public participation.en-US Jensen Beach resident Jackie Trancynger en-US concurred.en-US You continually put items on the Conen-US -en-US sent Agenda that do not belong there, she en-US said. Today you want to pass a resolution en-US approving House Bill 6700 two weeks before en-US the Congressman has to run for re-election en-US and when Congress is not even in session. I en-US cant shake the feeling that the timing of HR en-US 6700 was a political ploy as was todays resoen-US -en-US lution hidden in the Consent Agenda.en-US Paul Lara, who normally identifies himen-US-en-US self as a member of the Treasure Coast en-US Democratic Environmental Caucus but did en-US not do so during the meeting, also suggested en-US postponing the resolution of support. en-US The question Im asking is why the rush en-US to get this resolution approved, he said. en-US There has been very little discussion by en-US many groups on the concerns of lack of en-US detail in the bill. We hear that the lack of en-US detail is because it is a politicized timeframe. en-US Its an election period, and approval of a resen-US -en-US olution today is a form of candidate en-US endorsement for Mr. Mast.en-US Laurie Prim also accused both the Comen-US -en-US mission and the Congressman of rushing en-US the resolution and the legislation through en-US right before the election.en-US I dont think this is about the bill, or for en-US that matter about water at all, but a larger en-US political agenda, she said. Here we are in en-US front of our County Commission that is en-US supposed to represent all of us, essentially en-US making a partisan-political endorsement, en-US with no discussion, with no public notice. en-US Whats the rush, whats the rush on a bill en-US thats been thrown together 60 days before en-US the election, when the person writing the en-US bill has been in Congress for two years en-US already? en-US One of the regions most familiar environen-US-en-US mental voices, Indian Riverkeeper Marty en-US Baum, also called for restraint on the part of en-US the Commission. en-US The Commissions non-partisanship en-US must be protected, he said. If you take a en-US vote today, it will not matter how you vote: en-US Half of this room will forever believe that en-US you made a partisan vote.en-US Palm City resident Kimberly Streiber cast en-US the only vote of support for the resolution, en-US expressing incredulity that anyone present en-US would oppose supporting the Stop Harmful en-US Discharges Act.en-US For the first time in my life we have a en-US representative in D.C. who is actually pushen-US -en-US ing initiatives that can make a huge impact en-US on our water problems, she said. People en-US need to see through politics and actually en-US support progress because at this point in en-US time I think theyre impeding it. To see peoen-US -en-US ple who openly support a certain party say en-US the Commission should not support this en-US resolution until after the election in the en-US name of political favoritism is purely politien-US -en-US cal -the hypocrisy is amusing.en-US Right before ending the public comment en-US portion of the meeting, Commission Chairen-US -en-US man Ed Ciampi warned those in opposition en-US that pulling the item off the Consent Agenen-US -en-US da for public discussion might have the en-US opposite effect they intended. en-US Now if you were thinking from a politien-US-en-US cal strategy point of view, it was on the Conen-US -en-US sent Agenda, which it this particular case en-US meant it would not have come up for a large en-US conversation and you wouldnt have heard en-US Congressman Masts name, he insisted. It en-US would have been voted on and either en-US approved, or taken off and failed, so its goten-US-en-US ten more attention this morning then it en-US would have had, had it just been voted on en-US regularly.en-US Chairman Ciampi emphasized that Comen-US-en-US missioner Sarah Heard had submitted the en-US idea for the resolution and was one of those en-US who requested it pulled from the Consent en-US Agenda.en-US I didnt think that when Commissioner en-US Heard had brought this forward -and any en-US-en-US one of us could have -that it would have en-US turned into an issue such as this because I en-US was pleased that our elected officials from en-US either party were working on [environmenen-US-en-US tal] situations, he said. I understand the en-US concern that maybe the timing on this en-US looked appropriate, but Im telling you if en-US Congressman Mast was a Democrat, I dont en-US believe we would have had the uproar this en-US morning that weve had. en-US The Commission did not take up the disen-US -en-US cussion again until later on in the day when en-US there were few, if any, of the original public en-US speakers still in the chambers. Commissionen-US-en-US er Heard said that afternoon she concurred en-US with Chairman Ciampis earlier assessment en-US of the debate.en-US I feel that we do a very good job of repreen-US -en-US senting all residents in Martin County and en-US not just Republicans, she said. When were en-US trying to protect our water resources. I think en-US we do everything that we can in order to en-US protect them, and I think that we do fairly en-US represent all political parties in Martin en-US County, and I dont think this was a political en-US stunt. I think its a bill thats aimed toward en-US providing some additional protections and en-US additional regulations for Martin County en-US that dont exist right now.en-US Commissioner Ed Fielding also supporten-US -en-US ed the idea of the resolution, saying there en-US had already been non-partisan cooperation en-US on the issue.en-US It was not of a political nature, he en-US exclaimed. The Congressman [Mast] has en-US helped in many areas about water issues. en-US Sen. Nelsons helped in many areas about en-US water issues. Sen. Rubio has been more en-US helpful about various water issues as well of en-US late, and so this isnt a political thing. This is en-US a living thing, this is a standard of living, en-US this is a quality of life thing.en-US Commissioner Doug Smith cast the lone en-US dissenting vote, saying he sided with some en-US of the opinions expressed by the opposing en-US speakers. en-US I agree with the speakers this morning en-US from the respective of the timing: This isnt en-US as drop-dead urgent as is the communicaen-US-en-US tion and conversation relative to everybody en-US having time to adequately engage, he said. en-US We as a Board have not had a conversation en-US as to what we think is important relative to en-US whats being asked for. Two or three weeks en-US time or a months time to further engage en-US with everybody and get everybody on the en-US same page will be much more productive.en-US Commissioner Heard subsequently made en-US the motion to support the resolution, which en-US was seconded by Commissioner Harold en-US Jenkins who made no comments on the en-US matter. It passed 4-1. Se Habla Espaol Expires 11-30-18 I have over 30 years' experience. I possess a Master's Degree in Audiology. I educate people; I do not pressure them or mislead them. en-USSTUART For nearly 13 years, Fiorentien-US -en-US no Tino Estrada has served up cuisine en-US reminiscent of his native Calabria, a stones en-US throw from Sicily, in the heart of Stuarts en-US popular Cedar Pointe Plaza. en-US Stuart and the rest of Martin County have en-US only benefited from Chef Tinos culinary en-US expertise because his sole effort to leave the en-US restaurant business behind him failed to en-US satisfy. The immigrant from the Italian Boot en-US originally planted himself in Broward en-US County in 1985, where he served up Italian en-US delicacies in both Margate and Coral en-US Springs for years. After buying a home in St. en-US Lucie County, he briefly traded in his chefs en-US apron for a chauffeurs cap but found the en-US hours of a limousine service even longer en-US than his accustomed restaurant trade and en-US really missed the call of the kitchen. Before en-US long he began scouring the area for his next en-US gastronomic endeavor and launched en-US Fiorentinos Cuisine in December 2006. en-US The following summer, my wife Gloria en-US and I visited the relatively new restaurant en-US for one of the first dining reviews that I did en-US for the Hometown News as a recent transen-US-en-US plant from Miami that same year. Fiorentien-US -en-US nos was one of the first Italian restaurants en-US wed visited on the Treasure en-US Coast, and unbeknownst to us at en-US the time, Martin and St. Lucie en-US counties was experiencing a en-US much newer wave of Italian/en-US American immigration from en-US both New York and New Jersey en-US so significant that the region was en-US becoming known gastronomicalen-US -en-US ly as the Little Italy of Florida. en-US Indeed, Fiorentinos was the first en-US place Id ever tried the Francese en-US method of food preparation. For en-US the uninitiated, this yummy lemen-US -en-US on-butter-and-white-wine sauce en-US makes a great deviation from the en-US typical red-sauce so endemic to en-US Italian/American cuisine and is en-US frequently used as a preparation en-US method for chicken, veal and fish. So our en-US recent visit was a coming home of sorts and en-US indeed, when Chef Tino got a break to en-US come out and chat, he remembered us and en-US even where wed sat 11 years prior (now en-US thats a mind for details!).en-US For this more recent visit, we started out en-US with an appetizer of Fried Calamari. Now I en-US must admit Gloria is much more into squid en-US than I am, but Chef Tinos version came out en-US delightful crunchy on the outside and en-US chewy and succulent on the inside. Of en-US course, I dipped them generously in Fiorenen-US -en-US tinos homemade marinara sauce. Since all en-US entrees here come with either soup or salad, en-US I opted for Pasta Fagioli, a typical Italian en-US soup chock full of white beans and pasta in en-US a very creamy base. Gloria requested the en-US house salad, which she topped with Chef en-US Tinos homemade creamy Italian dressing, en-US one of the best Ive ever tasted. en-US Fiorentinos boasts quite an extensive en-US menu, so it may take you some time to figen-US Mike Lee Thurs., Nov. 15 Harold Seay Fri., Nov. 16 David Goodman Sat., Nov. 17Hours: Sun.-Thurs. 11-9 PM Fri. & Sat. 11-10 PM Closed Major Holidays $5 OFF LUNCH OR DINNERMinimum Purchase of $25At Fresh Catch Seafood Grill. While my wifes main course en-US came sauted with tons of onions, bell pepen-US -en-US pers, mushrooms and olives in the chefs en-US homemade red sauce, my sole was accomen-US -en-US panied by a side of delightfully crunchy en-US broccoli sauted in garlic and olive oil. en-US When I took one bite of the tender and delien-US -en-US cate breaded fish swimming in its pool of en-US Francese sauce, I knew my server had led en-US me down the right path. When I passed a en-US taste over to Gloria, she so enjoyed it she en-US had to know the name for sole in Spanish. en-US When she realized its called lenguado, she en-US remembered it was one of her favorite types en-US of fish in Colombia as well. Because I misen-US -en-US takenly thought Gloria was initially going to en-US order Eggplant Rollatini (one of my favorite en-US Italian/American dishes), I also ordered a en-US small portion here, which did not disapen-US -en-US point with its yummy red sauce and filling en-US of stringy mozzarella and ricotta cheeses.en-US Naturally I was unable to finish my ample en-US entre due to so much sampling of everyen-US-en-US thing else and the desire to try Chef Tinos en-US homemade Cheesecake (again, another sugen-US -en-US gestion by our server). We opted to share a en-US slice of this incredibly rich concoction of en-US sour cream, ricotta and cream cheeses and en-US definitely think its worth saving room for in en-US the future. 16 en-USMen-USost every week, serious golf fans en-US dream of playing the courses the en-US pros play. We want to know what en-US they face when playing for over a million en-US dollars. Wed love the prefect conditions. en-US The firm fairways where the ball seems to en-US bounce and roll forever. The perfect putting en-US surfaces where the ball tracks true and the en-US speeds are identical on every green.en-US Most of us have watched or attended the en-US Honda Classic at PGA National in Palm en-US Beach Gardens. The resort has been home en-US to the Honda Classic, the Tours longest en-US running sponsor, since 2007. Over that time en-US the Champion Course has seen several en-US renovations and tweaks to both challenge en-US the pros and make them more comfortable.en-US After the sun set on this years event back en-US in early March, the Tour and the resort en-US heard a lot of comments from the players. en-US Most were not the kind you want to hear en-US from the people who make your brand en-US popular. The players were not thrilled at all en-US with the greens. They complained about the en-US surfaces being too different from one hole en-US to the next. They didnt like that some of en-US them had bare spots that had more green en-US sand than grass.en-US The PGA Tour and PGA National Resort en-US got together and decided the time had come en-US to renovate the greens. Over the past few en-US years some other components of the course en-US have seen attention. The bunkers have been en-US rebuilt, tees have been added to change en-US angles and add distance, and even some en-US trees have been planted or removed. It was en-US time for some attention to be paid to the en-US greens.en-US Jack Nicklaus Design, which has overseen en-US most every tweak or change made to the en-US Champion Course over the past two en-US decades, was again brought in. Over time en-US the grass around the greens creeps in and en-US encroaches on the putting surface, making en-US them smaller and smaller over the years. en-US The Tour wanted to get the greens back to en-US their original size and remove all the en-US encroaching grass on the fringe or collars.en-US By returning the greens to their original en-US size, there will now be more places for the en-US Tour to put the pins over the course of en-US tournament week. Some will be completely en-US new, giving the pros a hole location that en-US they have yet to see when playing the event en-US at this course.en-US In all, an average of just over 800square en-US feet was added to each green. Couple that en-US with bringing back the undulations the en-US greens used to have, and you get greens that en-US will certainly challenge the best in the en-US business.en-US The Tour also likes that the greens are a en-US bit firmer and the new drainage en-US system under the greens en-US complexes will allow the staff to en-US better control just how firm and en-US fast the greens are for not only en-US the Honda Classic, but for resort en-US guests as well.en-US Work began on June 4, and was en-US completed the first week of en-US October, with the course re-openen-US -en-US ing for play on Oct. 3. A lot of en-US work was done in just four en-US months. The old layer of grass en-US was stripped and removed. New en-US drainage was built, and a new subsurface en-US was constructed. Then the new irrigation en-US was put in, followed by new Tiff Eagle en-US Bermuda for the final putting surface.en-US After the ribbon-cutting ceremony, we en-US teed up to give the course a thorough en-US testing. You immediately notice how en-US well-groomed the entire course is. Having en-US followed many of the players around at the en-US Honda Classic and having played the en-US course a couple years ago, I am well aware en-US of what the greens used to look like. The en-US size of the greens immediately jumped out en-US to me. They are noticeably larger and some en-US of the pin placements we had for the day, en-US were ones the course hasnt been able to use en-US since last century.en-US The course is best known for the Bear en-US Trap. Holes 15 through 17 are where Jack en-US Nicklaus decided to truly challenge the en-US players and guests. The holes were difficult en-US before. Adding a few more spots to place en-US the pin on 15 and 17, and making 16 green en-US a lot bigger than I ever remember it being, en-US will just add to the difficulty and pressure.en-US I did my best to appease the golf gods and en-US hit a ball in the water at each of the three en-US holes. Hopefully the leader has better luck en-US than I come late February.en-US The best way to play the Champion en-US Course and test your game against one of en-US the toughest venues on the PGA Tour is to en-US stay at PGA National Resort & Spa. This en-US way you can enjoy all the amenities at the en-US best rates.
